Chapter 13
BREAKFAST WAS LONG and filled with silence. I wasn’t sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing, but I didn’t want to force conversation if none wanted to commence. I ate as much as I could without stuffing myself since I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when it came to my day. The worst thing I could do was allow myself to go hungry.
After we concluded breakfast, Matlock took me through the portals and out into the town where I’d first arrived. I wasn’t as filled with awe as I had been before. Perhaps because I was still trying to figure out what this day would hold and coming up empty-handed.
“Where is the testing done?” I asked, looking around. It was almost eerie in these streets, as though the silence was trying to tell me the secrets Matlock wouldn’t.
