Chapter 14 I KNEW I COULDN’T MAKE a mistake or I’d be toast. I knew that. Even if Meika liked to pretend she could save me if I faltered. Meika threw a ball at me this time that was the color of a ripe orange, dark and strong. It hit the wall I’d created in front of me harder than I’d anticipated but nowhere near what Courtney would chuck at me on occasion. Especially if she was mad. If anything, I was slightly relieved. I clenched my teeth against the tension in my arms that came with holding the shield in place and drew the magic in. I needed more of it if I was going to keep this up. I appreciated a test as much as the next person, and I could understand wanting to see what I could do, but I wished I knew what they were looking for and, more importantly, why they were looking for it
