Pawn with a heart

…She moved her face away. “I can't entangle myself with what belongs to my boss.” “I don't belong to anyone, Elen.” She giggled. “I'm serious, Elen. Even if I ever let myself belong to anyone, I think it would be you. You have no idea how beautiful you are and how much I need you right now.” “So after getting me what next? Jumping over to the next beautiful maid?” “You sure have no idea how much impact you've made on me. Part of you reminds me of young Seth… The one that was cut up with the sudden need to make the family proud. Another part of me reminds me of the mature version of young Seth Not this puppet sitting before you You complete me, Elen. Aside from my late mum who found…” His voice faltered. His jaw tightened and he looked away, ashamed of how much the words broke him. “I'm sorry… I shouldn't bore you with any of this,” he said quietly. “It was all a bad idea.” Celene smiled within. He tried to get up, but she held him back down, wrapping her legs around his waist as she hugged him from behind. “Was that why you preferred to be schooled privately?” “You're from a popular family, Sir. I'm afraid rumours spread farther than we know.” Seth let out a deep breath. Celene’s warm hands were on his chest, slowly calming the raging storm within. She had him right where she wanted him. Thanks to Nara, her badass escort, she had played her first set of cards well and now she had to retreat and watch him do the chase while Khardi watched. “I’m spending the night here, Elen. Let me.” Celene paused, feigning ignorance of the argument between him and Khardi. “What happened to your room?” “I had a dream about us.” For a heartbeat, she almost burst out laughing but she was able to stop herself. She shifted away from his back and sat beside him. “It felt so real that I muttered your name out loud…” “...and your fiancée heard you” she completed. He nodded. “I don't know why she thinks you'd want anything to do with me…” “She's right… I want everything to do with you.” She glanced at him, then slowly leaned towards his ear, “You can't have anything to do with me, Sir.” “And why's that?” “You can't abandon your wealthy fiancée because of a maid, Sir.” “Well, that maid is everything that she's not.” “You didn't see that before you asked her out?” “Asked who out?” “Miss Khardi of course.” “I never asked her to be my girlfriend, let alone marry me.” Celene gasped. How easy could her revenge get? “She was brought here by my godmother since she believed that we were childhood sweethearts and I needed to create a bond with the most powerful family in the city.” “But your family is the most powerful…” “Because of my Dad and godmother… I'm just the brains… Or should I say… their pawn.” “And now your father is gone, your godmother wants to build a more powerful family through you.” “Exactly. But that's not what I want. I want a peaceful, normal life, married to a lover, not some father's puppet." “I think you're saying all this because you're hurt right now, sir. And before things get more complicated I'd like you to please leave, sir.” “Celene you can't pretend you don't want me. I mean, two nights ago you were under my desk. I see the way you look at me Elen, why are you making it seem like I'm the only one who wants this?” “What happened that night was a mistake… I've already told you, I can't get entangled with what belongs to another. So please leave…” “Alright then.” He stood up. “Just so you know, Elen, you can't discard me so easily…” He walked out, leaving the book behind. “Perfect” Celene bit her lower lip. She quickly grabbed her phone, dialling Nara’s number. “Good morning boss,” Nara greeted. “Morning?” Celene glanced at her clock. It was about an hour past midnight. “Well yeah. I have good news,” she threw herself on the bed “Don't tell me he's chasing already?” “The poor billionaire has been lonely for too long and can't let go of the maid who seemed to understand him.” “Poor, innocent billionaire is about to have his emotions shattered.” “As long as his arrogant fiancée suffers.” “You know you could just reveal what she did and watch her fall.” “Where's the fun in that?” “You're right. Just do your thing and leave. Don't fall in love with him.” “I beg your pardon? I taught you that.” “Yeah… I know… Enjoy your game I have another client to catch…” Celene smiled “Be a good girl.” “As always.” Celene hung up. Her back tickled in pain. “Hey, Ronnie,” she whispered, closing her fingers around the silver pendant that dangled from her neck; a gift from her late husband. “Your wife would surely make you proud.” The next morning Celene was barely done tying her uniform when a knock came on her door. “The master's godmother is calling everyone to the main hall,” the maid announced. Minutes later, Celene stood among the lined-up maids when the godmother's cold voice filled the room. “Today, a new head maid and personal assistant will be assigned to Seth.” She paused. Celene's eyes lifted, locking with hers for a second before the godmother looked away. “You.” Everyone turned.
