Because Of Her

Nathan sat in his office going through his phone. If he's not on set, that's all he basically does. He had people to do whatever he wants in the company.  "Can you imagine! How can someone I don't know be pregnant for me? " He had logged in to f*******: after a long time and was reading the messages he was sent.  " Hey Nath, how are you doing? Been tryna reach you for days now but I couldn't. I just found out that I'm carrying your child...  He stopped reading and began to laugh.  "Been trying to reach me? I don't even know you. The name doesn't ring a bell...  " Like you know the names of the numerous girls you've been with" Nathan looked up and saw Tina, his secretary.  "Did you say something? " he asked "Your 10:00am date is here sir. Should I let her in? " she replied not answering his question.  Tina! Nathan thought her to be a pain in the ass. She was the only woman he has met that he could not impress no matter what he does. Not his money, fame and influence or looks could impress her. She does what she wants and sometimes counters what he says. He had fired her a couple of times but ended up calling her back. Why? She was good at what she does. She made sure he never missed his appointments. She could even attend meetings in his absence. Unlike the last seven who either came to dupe him, seduce him or get money from him.  "Okay then, I'll just ask her to leave " he heard her say.  " What! No! Let her in" "Of course " she said before leaving.  He could sense the contempt In her voice.  " One day T, I'll get you one day. Everyone has a weakness I just have to find yours" he said to himself.  "You can go in" Tina said as she got to the reception.   () () () () () ()() () () () ()  Tina looked at her wristwatch, it was almost 2pm. She quickly stood up and went to the cafeteria. She had to get lunch for her boss.  "I wonder if he remembers to even bath or breathe. What kind of a Man needs to be reminded of everything? " she muttered as she walked to his office.  She knocked on the door once and was about knocking again when she remembered he went on a date. She was about to turn back when she heard a voice tell her to come in. She opened the door and was surprised to see him inside.  "You're back early " she Said.  " Had to ditch her." "Which story was it this time? " " Same old. We had s*x a month ago during a party now she's pregnant and she can't keep it cos she has a sick mother to take care of, she needs money bla bla bla....  "OH! I brought you lunch " she said dropping the plate on his table.  " Jeez! Thanks T. I don't think I've had anything today" "I know. Eat up, you have a 3:00pm shoot and then a 7pm dinner with the Lawson family " " Lawson family? And they are.... " He said trailing off.  " They told you they have a deal for you. Something about a shoe company? You told them you'd meet them today ".  " OH I remember now. You're coming with me right? " " No sir. I have a family to go home to" "Come on T. You know I hate attending family dinner alone. Please. " " No! " " Please? " Nathan pleaded making a puppy face. He knew Tina would not refuse him.  " Look, I agree you're my boss but you can't keep making me do want I don't want to" "Now that you mentioned it. I'm your boss and you have to do as I say or I'll fire you" he threatened.  "Hmmmmmmm. Fire me? How many times have you done that? Fire me I mean. " " Uuummmm, about a hundred times?" "And how many times have you called me back? " " About a hundred times. I wouldn't have to fire you if you just do as I say" "You can't keep treating me like I don't have a life. Not everything is about you. Remember my terms of agreeing to come back this time" "I know, I know. But I'm asking for a favor now. Please " " I don't have what to wear " she said looking for an excuse not to go.  " That's not a problem. We'll get something after my shoot. So is that a yes? " " Just eat your food" She said leaving the office.  "Thank you " he shouted to her hearing.  He had gotten used to saying thank you to her. It took a while though. Even though Tina can be hard and annoying sometimes, she could be nice too. I'm very sure he'd be dead or probably be suffering from one sickness or the other if not for her. For as long as he can remember, she has been the one reminding him to eat, rest and even sleep. " Mr Lawson said.  When he didn't get a response, he tapped Nathan.  " Did you hear all I said? " he asked " I umm.. Sorry I didn't hear you. Can you go over it again? " Nathaniel found himself staring at Tina. She looked really beautiful. For the first time she let her hair fall loose on her shoulders. She didn't have make up on. Just a little powder and lipstick. She wore a black dinner gown with gold embroidery on the waist. The gown had a slit that went up to her right thigh. she wore a gold color shoe to match.  Mr Lawson laughed.  " I understand you son. That was how it was when I first got married to my darling wife. I couldn't take my eyes off her. I see its the same with you and your wife here. I saw you looking at her. It's what love does to us men and she's beautiful too. "  "What? Wife? No! We're not married" Nathan said.  "I will never marry him. Impossible! " Tina added laughing.  Nathan was not happy with Tina's words. Was he really that bad a person? He didn't hide his displeasure.  " Women clamor for my attention they'd give anything to be my wife and you're saying you'd never marry me? " he said to her.  "We're in a business dinner, do you really want to do this here?" she asked.  "Yes. I want to" "Okay then" she said facing him.  "For starters, they clamor for your money not you and if indeed anyone wanted you, they don't know what they're getting into " . " What's that supposed to mean? " " You drink, you womanize. I don't think you can ever be faithful. You're selfish and make everything about you, I've never seen you help anyone unless you'll get something in return. Should I go on? " she asked.  " You talk like you're perfect " Nathan said.  " I know I'm not but you? You're a punishment to anyone who marries you. Want me to go on? " " Not now please. Let's finish with the meeting then you can have your lovers quarrel when we're done" Mr Lawson said.  "We're not lovers " they said in unison.  " Okay! Okay! Let's finish up and you can continue whatever it is you're doing. I wish my wife was here to see this. I asked her to come but she refused. Not lovers indeed "
