Chapter 36

1130 Words
"I haven't seen him since my birthday, and the last thing he txtd me was Happy New Years, so I'm not really sure, I figured he's happy with Liz, so I didn't bother to speak to him." Massy said looking down at her plate of half eaten chicken. "Oh honey they broke up a week or two ago, over your toothbrush! ... honestly don't even think they were really together like that." Massy looked up in total confusion. "My toothbrush!?" She repeated c*****g her head forward.  Heather shook her head yes swallowing her food before she spoke. "Yes, apparently you left a toothbrush at his house, he never threw it away, she found it and got upset so she yelled at him and threw it in the trash, which he then flipped out on her, then he kicked her out."  Massy frowned, squinting her eyes trying to remember the last time she had been over Odell's that would even require for her to have a toothbrush. "Wait a minute, he's had a two month old toothbrush of mine in his house that he refused to throw away, then when she did he flipped out on her!?"  Heather nodded her head yes in agreement. "The boy had a fit. I'm sure she said some other not so great things about you, but he wasn't having it and told her he was done."  Massy still seemed to be a bit confused as to why he'd flip out on Liz over a toothbrush, but then again he did bulk up his chest and ego when she tried to put a bandaid over his knuckle. "I don't understand why he would flip out over a toothbrush."  "I do." Heather said looking at Massy, putting her fork down and leaning back in her chair. Massy had never seen Heather in action but she assumed she was like her mother and when ever Massy's mother stopped what she was doing and leaned back in her seat with her hands crossed over her lap, she was about to say something that would make you rearrange your whole thought process.  "Odell can be childish at times, I can admit that about my son, it's very hard for him to display his feelings properly when he.... Starts falling for someone. That toothbrush wasn't JUST any toothbrush, that toothbrush was YOUR toothbrush." Heather pointed her index finger at Massy. "And when Liz, someone he doesn't have any feelings for tossed that toothbrush in the trash, it set him off, that was the only thing he had of yours, and because it was yours it meant something to him. Hell, it could of been a sock Massy, but it's the fact that it was yours."  Massy realized that maybe she should have tried talking to him, if he would flip out on Liz over her toothbrush, then maybe he didn't move on, Liz was just something for him to do. If Odell needed to work on displaying emotions, then what the hell did she need to work on. Massy thought to herself.  "Trusting." Heather said already knowing what she was thinking.  Massy c****d her head back, she looked at Heather strange. Heather picked her fork back up. "Don't worry, when you become a mother you get eyes in the back of your head, you get bionic hear, and you can read minds. It comes with the territory." She said picking up food with her fork and putting it in her mouth.  "But he completely ignored me, especially at my party, acted like I wasn't even there." Massy said confused.  "He ignored you because he's childish Massy and was hurt. He didn't get his way with you and that upset him. Heather paused and slightly smiled. "If I may ask? What happened between you two?" Massy was a bit reluctant to tell Heather, she didn't even tell her parents, the only people that knew was Odell, Mari, and her. She chewed the inside of her cheek and looked out the window of the restaurant, Heather sifting through her food with her fork waiting patiently for Massy's response.  "I had a pregnancy scare." She finally confessed, Heather immediately stopped and looked up at Massy, she began to look concern, Odell told her his version of what happened but completely left out a possible pregnancy. "I hadn't gotten my period and I was scared to take a test, so my sister made me go to the doctors, and it turned out I wasn't pregnant and I started thinking that was a sigh, that maybe a relationship isn't what I should be focusing on at the moment, and that I needed to be focusing on my career, we're both 23, famous athletes, probably never get to see each other, I don't want to hold him back from living his life, I don't ever want him to feel tied down." Massy looked down at her plate.  Heather frowned, a somber look on her face. "You're afraid you'll fall in love and he'll cheat on you." Massy looked up. "You have every right to be scared, he's very young, and very attractive, and it's true women throw themselves at him just because of who he is, and you two won't always be together, you may be in a different country and him in a different city, but you have to trust in him and work with him, help him, instead of being scared of him and battling against him." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Team USA Women's Soccer wins their first match in a 2-1 defeat over France. 23 year old rookie starter Massy Arias scores her first career goal which also was the winning goal." Odell's childhood friend Chris looked up at the tv, dropping the heavy weight to the floor. "You know Massy is down here?" He said turning to Odell. Odell almost tripped over the elastic band around his ankles that he was using to do his footwork with. "What!? How you know!?" He asked Chris with a frown and wide eyes. "She posted a pic of her and mom down at LSU in the weight room. I think she's down here to see Alex play tomorrow." Odell stopped to think, then remembered a conversation the two women had about Massy coming down to see his little sister and cousin. He hadn't so much as looked at his phone for hours there was no telling what he missed. Odell stood up straight, looking at the tv, highlights of the USA vs France game still showing. Sports commentators going back and forth dissecting the game. Odell battled back and forth between going to his mother's house or not, but even he knew he'd ultimately end up showing up, using the excuse of wanting to see his mom and sister.
