Chapter 29

850 Words
Massy may have been back home in New York for Christmas break but with Team USA's #NoMaybes campaign dropping that same day she landed, on the 21st, having her first big press conference and autograph signing for that campaign on the 22nd at the Nike store in Time Square, then celebrating her 23rd birthday on the 23rd, this was far from a Christmas break. She made her rounds visiting friends and family. Her mother pulled her into a tight hug clinging to her youngest child. "I missed you sooooooo much!" She began kissing all over her cheeks. "I missed you too." She said back, but trying to push her off, once getting free she moves on to her father, then sister, cousins, aunts, and uncles, college friends and teammates showed up to her parent's house. Gathering and talking throughout the kitchen and living room. The house was full of nothing but love and best wishes, bright white lights intertwined between ornaments that hung from a bright green Christmas tree. It filled the whole living room with the smell of fresh pine, Bo had insisted on having a real tree or no tree at all, Cynthia rolled her eyes and eventually gave up and let him have his real tree. "How's Odell?" Mari asked genuinely wanting to know and be nosy. Massy shook her head looking forward at the house full of people. "I haven't spoken to him since like the 6th. I don't know?" "Oh my god, why? I thought you two were fine!? I mean I figured you would of been talked to him, especially after last nights game, even I saw that." Massy chewed the inside of her cheek listening to her sister. "We kind of ended on a bad note." Massy simply said. Keeping her details short, Mari could tell Massy didn't want to focus on that specific subject. The hype behind Odell's meltdown last night only grew, Twitter continued cutting into him, referring to him as The Joker or Two-Face, turning him into a villain from a Batman movie. More and more footage of Josh and Odell going at began to surface. The NFL chairman began reviewing that footage to see how they would respond to Josh and Odell's actions. Odell's mother Heather flew into New York literally that night to be by her son's side, she too had immediately fell into protective mode, turning into a Mamma bear standing over her cub. It was clear that Odell needed to be around family, his father and little brother eventually making their way to New York, for Christmas break, as well as his stepdad and little sister. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Massy sat in the back of the black truck her mother and father on either side of her, as she made her way through New York's Time Square, traffic at an all time high, the sidewalks packed as people paced to their destinations. A line of fans waiting outside the huge Nike store. "Oh.... My.... God." Massy said with wide eyes as she ducked her head down to get a look at the giant banner that hung inside the store. A solo photo and a photo of her and three veteran teammates. A sign that she indeed would be the starting rookie, also showing that the team welcomed her with open arms. Massy shook her head, stepping from the car, still looking up at the giant poster. Massy sports agent Mike welcomed her with a hug, fans began yelling out her name, waving at her and taking pictures. "What's up rookie!?" He said with a wide smile. "How long is this going to be hanging up here!" She asked still looking up. "Up until March." He said making and estimate. Massy was completely star struck of herself. Commercials, Nike adds, Gatorade deals. Team USA Women's Soccer was beginning to appear everywhere and Massy face was the image for it. Even though her positive comments outweighed the negative, there was still the murmurs of people thinking a rookie should not be the face of Team USA and she sure shouldn't be starting. She made her way through the building slowly but surely, due to her stopping to talk to agents, representatives, sponsors, that had invested in her, showing up in support of her first sports campaign. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jarvis too made his way from Miami to New York to be at his best friend's side. Brad also showing nothing but support for his teammate. Odell remained extremely quiet throughout the day. He didn't talk down or bad about Massy, he just didn't talk about her at all, though he was dealing with the whole Josh Norman and The Panthers situation he still tried to remain true to himself. "You think we can get him to go to the signing?" Jarvis quietly said to Brad. "I don't know man, last thing Massy told me was that they haven't spoken in like three weeks, and he not even talking about her." Brad confessed to Jarvis. "I mean, I'm sure he'll still support her, I mean.... Sports wise." Jarvis said not sounding too sure.
