"Where do you think you're going?" Garrick's palm closed over my wrist."You forced me into this," I hissed. "The first chance I get, I'll run away."Garrick smirked. "Where has it ever been said that someone outran their shadow? Huh Zarelle? It doesn't matter where you run to, I will find you," he echoed, pulling me against his chest. "And I didn't force you into this. You became completely mine that very moment you decided to touch me."***Garrick Razer had lived decades finding ways to die, having been cursed by the moon goddess herself for a terrible crime he committed. With immortality and repulsion for women being his curse, his entire life focused on one dark goal, until he crossed paths with a woman whose touch shook his entire existence.Zarelle's presence forced him to confront a past he had decided to run away from by all means. Ruined Birthday
~ Zarelle ~ "Shhh..." A rough hand was pressed over my mouth the moment I stepped into my room, stopping my outstretched hand from reaching the light switch. My heart skipped a bit and I froze, but it took only one whiff of his scent for me to know who it was. Claude, my first cousin, had never missed an opportunity to bully and harass me ever since my father passed. "Don't make a sound or else I will punish you severely." His foul breath hit me as he whispered the words to my ear. His other arm wrapped around my upper arm. With a rough tug, he pulled me in the opposite direction, and my back hit the nearest wall. Despite the shock and slight pain, I made no sound just as he instructed, because I knew he wasn't joking about the severe punishment. I wasn't ready for pain tonight. "What is tomorrow's date?" He asked in a whisper, moving his hand from my mouth down to my throat, probably to give me room to speak. "September 15," I whispered back, both from fear, and from the fact that his hand was restricting my airways. "What does September 15 signify?" He whispered another question, stepping closer. I thought of which important event was supposed to hold tomorrow, and when nothing came to mind, I gave him the only answer I could think of. "My birthday." Despite the partial darkness around us, I saw his lips stretch into a crazy smile, his head bobbing up and down. "Smart girl. Tomorrow you'll turn eighteen, just the right age to quench my urges. Aren't you excited?" He probed, and just at the same time, his hand on my arm snuck it's way to my right boob, cupping and squeezing lightly. I squirmed and tried to struggle, but he pinned me in place, and shut my mouth with his hand once more to force down the scream that about to escape. He did everything except take his hand off my boob. That was the first time he was going that far, and that left me scared for what he would do next. There was no one I could report to because no one would believe or even take my side. I had even been sent to the guest room by my uncle, Claude's father, in a house that belonged to my father before he died. "Leave the girl alone, Claude. She'll probably meet her wolf and find her mate tomorrow. You should focus on finding yours," a voice cut through the air. It belonged to Claudia, Claude's twin sister. Up until she spoke, I had no idea she was there or what they were doing in my room. "Who would want a weak omega like her? I bet her wolf won't even show up. She'll be my play thing," Claude said, the certainty in his voice making me believe his word making me believe I was truly done for. "I found the box. Come help me out let's get out of here," Claudia called out again, and this time, he pushed away from me, freeing me from his torment. I watched them pull out a heavy box from behind the vanity, and finally walked away with it through the back door. A single tear dropped from my eyes as I realized I would be completely doomed if I didn't meet my wolf or find my mate soon so I could leave the house. With a heavy heart, I moved through my nighttime activities before heading for bed. I was at the brink of drifting off to sleep when her voice reached my ears . "Happy birthday, Zarelle." My eyes snapped open and I sat upright on the bed. That was when I saw her clearly in my mind, a silver wolf unlike anyone i had seen or read about before. "I'm so happy to finally meet you. My name is Zamelda. I am your wolf," her voice echoed in my mind The moment she said her name, a warmth bloomed in my chest. But what shocked me more than her voice… was her color. She was a sparkling silver. Her fur gleamed like moonlight over water, each strand shimmering as she stood there looking all noble noble, regal and powerful. Omegas don't get silver wolves. We got brown, gray, sometimes off white, but never silver. Never the color that usually belonged to high-ranking bloodlines. "Are you real?" I choked out, not sure I wasn't dreaming. "Of course, I'm real. Just as real as you are now." My lips slowly stretched into a smile as relief washed through me. Claude's prediction had been wrong. I met my wolf, and I didn't need anyone to tell me she was one hell of a powerful one. Next would be to meet my mate. At that thought, my excitement watered down slightly. I was still an omega. No one would know how powerful Zamelda was until I shift, not even my mate. "He'll recognize us, don't worry. And he'll be strong," Zamelda spoke in my mind, her voice a sweet calming melody to my soul. "How do you know that" I asked, letting my body fall back on the bed, rolling to my side and hugging my pillow. "Just trust me. He'll be strong, with dark eyes and a heart that's seen war. But he'll be gentle with you." I smiled. "You're painting a fairytale, Zamelda." "Of course I am. Why shouldn't I?" she teased. "You deserve one." I let out a soft breath, letting the warmth of her presence soothe me. "I wonder what he'll smell like. Everyone says you recognize your mate first by their scent." "He'll smell like safety," she whispered and I finally drifted off to sleep thinking of strength, of arms around me, of someone finally seeing me. The next morning, I woke up very early. I lay in bed for a while, staring at nothing, my heart already thudding in anticipation. Today was the day. I would meet my mate today. I could feel it and I don't know how or why. There was this certainty that had settled deep in my heart. I took my time with my shower, letting the water run longer than usual. My hands shook as I got dressed. Plain jeans and a fitted gray shirt. Nothing out of the ordinary, but my face looked different in the mirror. My face looked hopeful and terrified all at once as I brushed my hair back and tied them into a ponytail. Since I didn't live in the pack house, I had to walk there every morning. But this morning, the walk took less time than usual. As soon as I stepped through the main door, the scent hit me. Oh Goddess. It was intoxicating, warm and wild, making my knees feel weak. "Mate." Zamelda stirred inside my chest, roaring the word with pure joy. But with that joy came a wave of fear so strong it stole my breath, because I recognized that scent. It belonged to no other than Alpha Khron, one of the sons of the current Alpha, the fiercest, coldest, most respected werewolves in our entire region. He was known for his brutality in battle, his strict demeanor, and the cold glint in his eyes that rarely showed emotion. He had two sons, Gaffy and Khron, and would be handing over the mantle of leadership to one of them in a few days. One of the criteria for meriting the throne was to have a strong wolf as your mate. Either an alpha female or a strong beta female. Before now, Khron had been flaunting Eunice, a strong beta female as his Luna, and I, as well as everyone believed she was his mate. Who knew this sudden twist will happen out of the blue? My stomach churned. This couldn't be happening. It couldn't be him. I didn't deserve someone like Khron. An Omega? A cleaner? I had scrubbed the floors of this house while he walked on them. We weren't even in the same universe. His scent grew stronger as I walked deeper into the building, and my heart pounded even more. I turned a corner, and there he was. Tall, broad-shouldered, dressed in black. His thick brown hair was tied loosely behind his neck, and his jaw was tight as he spoke to one of the senior warriors. And in that moment, he looked perfect in my eyes. He stopped talking the moment he saw me and his body went rigid. The warrior beside him faltered mid-sentence and turned to look at me too, but I barely noticed. All I could see was Khron's eyes as they widened slightly. He had caught my scent too. I swallowed hard, unable to move, unable to breathe. His eyes searached mine like he was trying to understand how this could be real, like he couldn't believe it either. But then, something suddenly changed in his eyes. Those pair that were just now filled with surprise, turned furious.
