Chapter: I Reject You
“Alpha, the Moon Ceremony is about to begin.”
Kael Blackwood didn’t look up from the documents spread across his desk.
“I know.”
His Beta hesitated. “The elders insist everyone attend. They believe tonight is… significant.”
A humorless smile tugged at Kael’s lips. “Every full moon is ‘significant’ according to them.”
“The Moon Goddess has never been wrong about a mating ceremony.”
Kael finally lifted his icy blue eyes. “Then let’s hope she doesn’t make a mistake tonight.”

Lyra Ashwood tightened her trembling fingers around the edge of her white dress.
“You look terrified.”
She turned to find her best friend, Maya, smiling encouragingly. “I’ve waited for this night my entire life,” Lyra whispered. “What if my mate doesn’t want me?”
Maya nudged her shoulder. “Don’t be ridiculous. The Moon Goddess chooses perfectly.”
Lyra forced a smile, though the familiar ache settled heavily in her chest. She had spent twenty-three years as the pack’s weakest omega. The servants pitied her. The warriors ignored her.
Even children laughed when she couldn’t shift into her wolf. Everyone believed she would be lucky if anyone accepted her. Still…Tonight was different. Tonight, fate would decide.
The sound of ceremonial drums echoed across the sacred grounds. Thousands of wolves gathered beneath the glowing full moon. The scent of pine, earth, and anticipation filled the air.
At the center stood Alpha Kael Blackwood; Tall, commanding and untouchable. Even without speaking, he held everyone’s attention. Women admired him, Warriors respected him, Enemies feared him.
Lyra had only ever seen him from a distance. Now, for the first time, their eyes met. Her breath caught. Something deep inside her stirred, Warm, Powerful, Ancient.
Kael frowned. His wolf, silent for years, suddenly surged forward with a force that nearly knocked him off balance.
Mate…..The word exploded through his mind. Impossible…His gaze locked onto the nervous omega standing several feet away. “No…”
The elder raised both hands toward the moon. “When the Moon Goddess reveals your destined mates, step forward.”
A silver light descended from the moon. One by one, wolves found their partners amid cheers and tears.
Lyra barely breathed. Please…Just let someone choose me. The silver light suddenly changed direction. Instead of stopping between two wolves…It shot directly toward Alpha Kael then second beam wrapped around Lyra. The two lights merged into one brilliant thread connecting them.
Gasps erupted across the ceremony. “The Alpha’s mate…”
“It’s Lyra?”
“That weak omega?”
“That can’t be right!”
Lyra stared at the glowing bond. Her heart pounded so hard it hurt and tears blurred her vision. The Moon Goddess…She chose me. Slowly, she stepped toward Kael, every step felt unreal. She stopped before him and their eyes met again.
His wolf growled possessively. Mine….
For one impossible, beautiful second…Lyra believed her lonely life was finally over.
Then another voice sliced through the silence. “Kael!” A beautiful young woman pushed through the crowd……Selena, The Beta’s daughter.
She threw herself into Kael’s arms. “I’m sorry,” she sobbed loudly. “I didn’t want everyone to find out like this…”
Confused murmurs spread through the gathering. Selena took Kael’s hand and pressed it against her stomach. “I’m carrying your pup.”
Silence….Absolute silence. Lyra felt every heartbeat stop, her smile disappeared. “No…” she whispered.
Hundreds of eyes turned toward Kael. The elders waited, The pack waited, Lyra waited.
Kael looked at Selena, Then at the glowing mate bond. His jaw tightened. The pressure inside his chest became unbearable. His wolf fought violently. “Don’t do this…She’s ours.” He said to his wolf.
Kael closed his eyes for a single heartbeat. When he opened them again…There was only cold resolve.
He stepped away from Lyra. His voice rang across the sacred grounds.“Lyra Ashwood…” She looked at him with trembling hope. “I reject you as my mate.”
The glowing bond cracked. A scream tore from Lyra’s lips as pain unlike anything she’d ever known ripped through her soul. The silver thread shattered into thousands of glittering fragments beneath the moonlight.
Around them, the pack watched in stunned silence. Kael didn’t move and He didn’t look away either. He forced himself to finish. “You are not worthy of becoming my Luna.”
The words hit harder than the broken bond. Lyra’s knees gave out. She collapsed onto the cold stone, unable to stop the tears spilling down her face.
Laughter rippled through parts of the crowd. Others looked away in pity. No one came to help her….Not one person.
As Selena slipped her hand into Kael’s, triumph flashed briefly across her face. It lasted only a second, No one noticed…Except Lyra.
The elders began chanting to close the ceremony. But before the final words left their lips…The moon above them turned blood red.
A violent gust swept across the sacred grounds. The earth trembled, every wolf dropped to one knee. Even Alpha Kael staggered.
A voice echoed through the night…..It was ancient, Female and filled with divine fury. “The Alpha has rejected the one woman he was never meant to lose.
