Disgraced
The golden rays of the beautiful setting sun penetrated through the windows of his Toyota RAV4. The cool breeze and the light showers of rainfall made the evening perfect.
Leone slowly drove the car to the parking area as his heart raced and rivulets of cold sweat trickled down beneath his armpits. He loosely held the steering wheel as he looked at his friends in the back seats.
He glanced at the black Maserati parked beside his car, he knew the owner and she was the reason why he was there freaky and tensed.
"We are here man, you don't have to panic at all. We are gonna give you the kind of backup you need," Benard assured him.
"It's your day, you have to be confident everything is going to end well believe. She's going to be all yours tonight," Michael added as he took out a camera from his pack back.
Leone stared at them without saying out, he took out a handkerchief and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Though he tried to summon courage, something was just amiss but he couldn't tell what it was.
It was such a great evening for him, the day he was going to propose to the love of his life. He adored Genevieve so much that he could not afford to lose her to any other man.
"I don't think you want to change your mind at the eleventh hour, do you?" Michael asked while staring at him.
"No, am just a little bit nervous but am good to go," he said as he wiped his sweaty hands with another handkerchief.
"We have to get ourselves going lest we miss her. Am sure she won't be there for long," Benard insisted.
Leone surveyed the parking slot thoughtfully and shifted his focus to the Bezel engagement ring. It was as beautiful as the gorgeous lady who was going to receive it. A man of few words, he dipped it in his pocket and opened the door.
They were clad in dark grey Havana suits. They walked majestically toward the entrance of the luxurious mall.
"This place is just superb!" Michael exclaimed.
"Am just eager to capture the exceptional moments on my camera. It is going to be lit," Benard beamed trying to psyche Leone who had remained silent since they entered the mall.
"Hopefully everything is going turn out for the better, am pretty sure. I want her to be mine forever," Leone said with a smile.
"Yes! That's the kind of words I want to hear from you. A few minutes from now a sizeable crowd of people will be watching you take a crucial step in your love life," Michael psyched him.
They conversed happily as they went about looking for Genevieve in the vast mall. For one reason or the other, Leone finds warm happiness in the company of his cheeky friends.
"Hey, am sure I have seen her on the other side. You have to follow me!" Michael said excitedly.
"Are you sure?" Leone asked as he sighed in relief.
"Of course yes! Don't you people believe me anymore?" he answered as he stared at them. They hurriedly followed him to the other side but to their surprise, there was no one.
"Dude you just fooled us!" Leone almost shouted at him.
"Easy bro, I just wanted us to take some water before we proceed to the next floor," he explained. Benard was disgusted with his explanation but he remained cool. They got into the lift to the next floor.
Unlike the first floor, this one was fairly crowded mostly with ladies who were busy filling their trolleys. A kid ran into Leone, she was almost crying and desperate.
"Help me locate my mum please," she said with tears rolling down her beautiful cheeks. Leone looked at his friends as if waiting for them to say something but they kept calm.
"Where did you leave her?" He asked.
"I can't remember, but I think she must be on this floor," she said while feigning a smile.
"Okay, worry less we are going to find her," Leone assured her. They had barely walked a few yards from the spot when Leone sighted her. The blood in his veins raced while goose bumps shrouded his body.
Michael smiled at him as he started preparing his camera. Banard patted him on the shoulder. She was clad in a short pink figure-hugging dress. Her eyes were shockingly blue.
She was alone before another lady joined her. "There she is! Mama!" the kid shouted as he ran towards the lady.
"It's time, you have to move," Michael said.
Genevieve stared at the kid as she tightly hugged the lady. She then turned and pointed at them.
"She is even smiling at you. Such a glamorous beauty, you must be so lucky," Benard retorted.
"Am already filming you, get moving before she gets out of our sight," Michael said as she focused the Camera on Leone.
Leone walked like a famous model towards Genevieve as Michael followed him with a camera. The other lady was shocked and the other shoppers out of curiosity started gathering.
He went on to greet her with an affectionate smile on his face. He continued talking to Genevieve but she seemed lost and confused about what was happening to her.
Then Leone went down on one knee, dipped into his pocket, and took out the beautiful ring. "Will you marry me?" he asked in an affectionate tone.
Genevieve became more confused than before, covering her mouth out of shock. There was noise from the curious onlookers. "Say yes," they chanted.
"Dude! Are you in your right mind? I don't even know you!" she said loudly before gripping her trolley. Leone looked at her as she walked away, he wished it was just a bad dream but it was the reality.
That night when she got home, she explained her disappointment to her sister. "Some dude proposed to me in the mall today," she said.
"Your boyfriend? Did you say yes?" he asked anxiously.
"I don't even know him," she continued.
"What?"
