Poisoned by greed

King Gareth couldn't sleep peacefully that night. The night Adalinda appeared in front of him, as if there was a cruel curse on him, or partly because of the alcohol, he had to relieve that day. After meeting Constance for the first time, he worked hard to be the perfect man any lady would wish for. He trained himself and his wolf as well, learned through day and night, with determination. Gareth took part in social gatherings and built important relationships, suddenly, his father died and his mother soon followed him due to the heartbreak of loosing her mate. Gareth was left alone with the weight of the crown as the Werewolf King. After the mourning of his lost family, his first trip took him back to that hidden mountain kingdom. He wanted to see Constance again. Five years passed since they first met and Gareth couldn't get her out of his head. Despite all of the ladies dying for his attention, he only had eyes for the dragon princess. When he arrived he knocked as his father did, but for his biggest surprise it was Constance who opened the door. She stood in front of him, and she didn't look a day older than the last time they met. - Wolfie?! - she asked and Gareth lost at his words slowly nodded. Constance glanced out and noticed the missing father. She looked into Gareth's eyes and as if she could read his heart, Constance whispered. - I'm sorry for your loss Gareth. - she looked up with a bitter smile and chuckled a bit. - They're probably laughing at our bitter faces and making bets which one of us is going to cry first. - Gareth looked at the sky and a few raid drops fall on them. - Do you think they're at the same place? - he asked and Constance giggled. - Knowing my stubborn father and crazy mother, they definitely found a way to annoy your parents even in the afterlife. - she said and there was something soothing in her words. Wherever their parents were, he hoped they'll give their consent. - Constance, I came today to...-at that moment a man appeared behind Constance. He was tall, fit, with porcelain skin and his should length hair was dark as a starless night. But what strike pit the most were his eyes. Gareth couldn't define the color of the man's eyes, it was a rare mixture of lavender, arsenic and russet. He was even taller than him and when their eyes met Gareth felt a ticklish sensation in the back of his mind. His wolf became confused at the weirs feeling. - Who is him, love? - he asked and put an arm around Constance's waist. Gareth couldn't take his eyes off of the man who arrived before him. - His name is Gareth, he is an old friend of mine. Our fathers were close friends. He lost his parents recently as well. - the man sighed and took a step towards Gareth, he extended his free hand and with a sad expression he said. - I wish we could've met in more happier conditions, I'm sorry for your loss Gareth. My name is Ronan, I'm Constance's... - and just like Gareth was interrupted by him a boy, who looked like Ronan rushed to them and pulled Constance's dress. - Mom! Come in and play with me! - Gareth's eyes travelled to the boy. He had to shake his head. That kid looked at least ten years old already. - Husband. Marty! Watch your manners! Your mother has a guest. - Ronan roared at the kid and he immediately stopped his childish acts. - You have a family. - Gareth said and Constance nodded proudly. - Yes. - When did this happen? Your son... He looks at least ten. - Gareth said in disbelief. He knew the boy was really Constance's. He looked like his father, but the emerald eyes Constance had were inherited by him. - Gareth, come in and let's catch up. We haven't seen each other years ago! - Gareth shook his head and Ronan grabbed the kid's hand. - Marty, come with me. Mom needs to talk woth her friend. - Constance smiled gratefully at her sweet husband. Ronan was truly a miracle in her eyes. Understanding gentle, intelligent and calm. He was her perfect life partner. - I can't believe you have a family!-Gareth said as soon as the father-son duo disappeared. From his voice Constance could tell that he wasn't happy about it. - Well, believe it or not, but I have. I met Ronan years before the last time we met. I knew that he was my destined. I had Marty already when we met for the first time! - Gareth's jaw dropped. Constance was the same age as him. His face distorted with disgust. - How could that rat touch you when you were so young?! - he growled and his eyes started getting darker. Constance looked at him confused. - What the hell are you talking about? - she asked but Gareth's eyes were fixated on the door. Ronan walked out of it and when their eyes met Gareth shifted into his huge white wolf. He snapped his sharp teeth in Ronan's direction. In an instant, Gareth was charging at Ronan. Before he could reach the man and tear him to pieces, tendrils sprouted from the ground and caught the raging wolf between them. Gareth could not move, and when he finally gave up the fight, Constance walked up to him and said. -Gareth, Ronan has been my husband for twenty years, our son, he may look ten, but he's almost grown up. Dragons age differently. You saw my mother and father! They were over two hundred when you first met! I don't know what you were thinking, or what you're looking for, but I'm sure you won't find it here. Go home, Gareth. You're always welcome back, when you're finally grown up. - with that, Constance freed him from the tendrils and walked back to her husband's embrace. Ronan looked at the defeated Gareth and they walked inside their kingdom closing the doors behind them. That's it. We lost everything. - he thought and his wolf growled in disagreement. - We couldn't lost what wasn't originally ours. - Gareth screamed with anger and shifted back into his wolf. He ran towards their home with lightning speed worrying his wolf. - What are you doing? - he asked but Gareth didn't answer as long as they arrived back home. There shifted back and headed to his study. As soon as he sat behind the table he started to plan. -Gareth... She is not our mate. Please stop this nonsense. - he begged but when his wolf read the papers in front of his counterpart's eyes he understood, he couldn't stop or save Gareth.
