Shadows of betrayal
Chapter 5: Shadows of Betrayal
The whispers grew louder as the days passed. Liana could feel the weight of disapproving stares wherever she went. Some of the villagers had accepted her presence, but others saw her as a threat—an outsider who did not belong in their sacred land.
One night, as she walked through the village, she overheard hushed voices near the elder's hall.
“She must leave,” one of them growled. “The king is blinded by his emotions, but we must do what is right for the clan.”
“She is changing him,” another voice added, filled with resentment. Kui Mulang has always put the clan first. But now? He risks everything for a mere human.”
Liana’s heart pounded. She knew she wasn’t welcome by everyone, but hearing their words sent a chill down her spine.

“They will not touch you,” he whispered, his voice like a promise.
But even as he said it, Liana knew things would only become more dangerous.
