Beep! Beep! Beep!
The incessant beeping of the heart monitor made Mike and I frantically running around the clinic for supplies. Tara, Hollie, Charlotte beside the Arronn, trying to wake him up. Tears streaming down their faces as the stench of adrenaline could be smelt inside the room. Demi and Blake beside each other on one of the metal benches, Demi curled into a ball as Blake drapes his arm around her, muttering words of reassurance with a shaky voice. Lucia, surprisingly having knowledge about wounds like these, ran along with us as we hunt for supplies.
“Get some gauze!” Lucia shouted with a harsh tone.
Mike rummages through the metal drawer and snatches the most amount of gauze he can grab. Lucia rips off the packaging and raises Alex’s shirt. Revealing a bloody wound that was still oozing blood, flesh almost seeping out from the hole, almost seeing the reddened sheets. She presses down the gauze that turned into scarlet.
“Get more!”
Mike helped pressed down the wound as I dashed to the metal cabinet. Returning with a handful as all of rips of the package to press down on the gaping hole in his stomach.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
The number on the screen appeared red in color with a blinking red dot next to it, and the green line going out of control.
“We’re gonna lose him! Call someone!” Lucia shouts.
“Hold on.” Mike closes his eyes and as he opens them, it turns green, as well as our surroundings.
The heart monitor stopped going haywire and the beeping sound ceased. Mike fishes out his phone from his pocket and dialed a number. Its ringing mimicking my quickened heartbeat that I feel can lurch out of my chest in any minute.
Suddenly, a riot of electric green clouds appears out of nowhere, and after a while, my mom stands amidst the mist, her eyes the same as Mike’s. She turns her gaze at Alex sprawled on the clinic bed, his eyes almost lifeless and his clothes discolored. Without any alarm in her movements, she walks to another cabinet next to Arronn–who’s radiating a blue aura. She grabs two pieces of bandages you use for scrapes.
Mike and I look at each other, and then at her. Is my mom serious? She goes to their sides and places each one with a bandage. Arronn placed on his head, while Alex, mom had to pry off Lucia’s arm and the gauze before placing the bandage. Mom nods at Mike and the green filter the world was on disappeared, as so is my mom in a thick flurry of green clouds.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Lucia, dumbfounded, her gauze-wielding hands weren’t on Alex’s gaping hole. The girls on Arronn’s screams in shock from the bandage, that was glowing. After a while, the couple is shrouded in iridescent, white squares.
“What’s happening!” Lucia’s alarmed tone matched her eyes that were wide open.
“Mike! C!” Hollie screamed.
Mike and I stared at each other and gulped.
I don’t know this!
A second passed, the brassy beeping of the heart monitor reduced to a normal, rhythmic sound. Everyone lets out a breathe of relief. The white squares lifted, revealing a nothing-happened Arronn, as well as I’m-Alex.
Alex and Arronn both flutter their eyes open, shielding their eyes with their own hands as they try to keep it open. Then, they both sat up with Arronn scratching his head and Alex his stomach. Everyone’s mouth agape as the two didn’t look like they had gone to a buffet shoot up with armed men. Their clothes laundry clean and hair pomaded to perfection. Either way, the girls hugged Arronn tightly, earning a shocked expression.
Lucia places her hand on Alex’s shoulder. “You’re okay.” Flashing a weak smile, then quickly going back to a neutral expression and walking to Demi.
I haven’t seen that before.
My eyes trail on Lucia for awhile, I rarely see her pour her heart out like that. I should ask her that in the future. But right now, I have to look at the two. First, I head to Alex who was looking around the room and his intertwined hands on his stomach.
“Hey, how do you feel?”
“Was it a dream that I was stabbed with a katana and felt my inside just rearrange itself?” He asked with a straight face.
“Um, no.”
“But my stomach thought,” he raises his shirt, “there’s not even a wound!”
“My mother has a lot of tricks up her sleeves.”
“Oh!” He looks around, “where is she?”
I shrug my shoulders.
I wonder where is she, everytime these stuff happens she disappears. Not even a look of remorse for my friends that was almost murdered with a power we have. We roped them in this mess, and that regret would never leave my body.
I place my hand his shoulder and tapped it comfortingly and smiled.
“How’s Arronn?” He grips my hand before I recede.
We both turned to Arronn who was crushed in the arms of Tara, Hollie, Charlotte in a daze of vibrant colored hair, mouthing a ‘help me’.
“He’s fine.” I joked, sharing a momentary laugh.
Alex stands up, to which I quickly aided him but he politely decline, saying he was fine. He walks to his lover, the arms parting in his entrance. He cups Arronn’s cheek, and they stare longingly at each other, and not long after, they share a kiss.
The three girls squealing in the background, Demi with a gleeful expression on her face as she claps her hand like a kid while Blake laughs and Lucia hides her smile. And I, look unto Mike, his arms crossed that showed his flexed muscle that I squeeze.
“So hard.”
“That’s not the only thing.”
“At a time like this? You’re weird.
“You love weird.”
“Yeah, I do.” I smile as he stoops to my level and kisses me in a fight of lip dominance. Everyone in happy bliss as they talk about the past events, some at awe at what happened, some joking around, and one of them hyperventilates but they got it and just laughed about it in the end.
“About Arronn…” My voice trails off.
“Yeah, he’s one of us.”
“But how.”
“That I don’t know.”
“And our friends, they know now of our…”
“And I can feel there gonna ask questions.”
A hand suddenly grips both our thinking shoulders, we turn to look to see my mother in a pale pink pantsuit with a grin on her face.
“Seems like we’re gonna have a new addition to the team.”
And from there, my mind was hesitant.
