Hazel ***** I walked swiftly down the passage in my maid's uniform. I was carrying several bouquets of roses and hurrying to the pool house on time. "Morning Hazel!!" Lilia, a cook, greeted me as she hurried past me. "Morning," I replied. Gigglingly. Everyone was so busy today; the workers ran everywhere, trying to finish things as quickly as possible. Benjamin, the second grandson of the Beckett family, is coming back today. Mom woke me up at 5:00 a.m. because we had to prepare the decorations and food and make Benjamin's room. I looked at my wristwatch, and it was 6 o'clock already. His flight would have landed by now. "s**t!!!" I muttered as I increased my pace. "wow, it's all done," I said as I got to the poolside. "Give me the flowers," Mom said immediately after noticing me. "I cleaned and sanitized his room. Now hurry, go make his bed," she said. "Got it," I said as I turned to leave. "He is a neat freak. Make sure you make no mistakes." "If he wanted a clean room, he should have said he was coming days ago," I murmured. "What did you say?" mom asked. "Nothing, mama, be right back," I screamed while running away. "Why does he have to ambush us? I should have been sleeping by now, not working my ass out right now," I thought to myself. I went into his room, and it was as big as our guest house put together, if not more prominent. "uhhhh, I hate entitled rich brats," I sighed as I slumped into the bed. "Who are you talking about?" a male voice said, which made me jerk up. I thought I was the only one in the room. "What in the flying f**k!!!!!" I screamed and covered my mouth afterward. "Who are you?" he asked. "What!! No, who are you?" I asked back. Just then, I heard my name being called from the passage by Rosie. "I am...." before he could finish his sentence, I grabbed him by the arm and threw him into the washroom. "shhhhh," I said to him, putting my hand between my lips. "I'm trying to save your job, probably your life too, so just stay quiet until I tell you otherwise," I said to him in one breath. "OK," he answered and nodded, still looking all innocent and confused. "What are you doing here?" Madam Theresa asked. "My mom said to make the bed." "Then hurry up and come downstairs; he will be here any moment," she said sternly as she turned around and left with Rosie and two other girls following behind her. "Bye," I waved and mouthed to Rosie before she left the room. I heaved a sigh of relief as they left, and I ran to the washroom to get the stranger out. "Who are you? What are you doing here? How did you get in here?" I said while dusting the bed. "don't you know that you would have been in huge trouble if you had run into someone that wasn't me?" I continued. I kept scolding him while dusting the bed but paused and turned around when I heard sniffles, only to find him tearing up. "Did he think I was going to tell on him?" I thought. "No, no no no, don't cry. I promise I won't tell anyone, OK?" I said as I tapped his head repeatedly. It suddenly crossed my mind that he was probably crying because he couldn't find his way out. "Don't worry, I will get you out of here," I said to him, but he was still frozen in front of me with tears streaming down his face. "ahhh, I guess you are new here because you probably don't know me." "My name is Hazel, and many people know me around here, so it's gonna be a piece of cake to get you out of here," I reassured him again. "Hazel!" he muttered. "Yes, Hazel," I replied. Please wait a moment; let me finish this up I told him. "ok" I straightened out the sheets and blankets, and it was ready. "I'm done; let's go," I said as I walked out with him walking behind me. As I walked him to the back door, he was silent all along. "Here we are," I said to him. "This door leads to the poolside; you can mingle around other workers and go back to your post when no one's watching," I explained to him. "OK, thank you... Hazel," he said. "You are welcome." He turned around and started walking to the poolside, and that was when it struck me that I did not ask his name. "WHAT IS YOUR NAME!" I screamed, and he halted and turned around. "Ben," he said, giving me a big smile. "See you around, Ben," I said and watched him walk away till I couldn't see him. "What a day," I said as I headed inside.
