Silver Fox
(Brandy)
Ouch- I say to myself as I get thrown to the ground.
“Damn Charlie, your side swipe is really coming along nicely.” I praised the young pup as he gave me a grin. I have been working with him for a few weeks now and see real potential. I survey some of the other warriors while trying not to distract anyone.
Brandy, can you meet me in my office in 30 minutes - Alpha Asher mind links me.
Sure thing Ash - I link him, knowing he has hated that nickname I gave him ever since childhood.
I quickly shift and make my way to the Packhouse, allowing Midnight to run a little bit. Being cooped up in the training yard isn’t fun for either of us, seeing my beautiful black wolf fur in the wind makes me feel at peace. I am the only black wolf in this pack, and it makes me feel so special.
I take the scenic route to do a quick perimeter sweep, mind linking to Jake, letting him know I'm going to be off my post and to send an omega to fill in for me.
Jake is the Alpha’s Beta, his second in command. We all three grew up together, so we all share a very casual relationship.
I’m sure Luke can handle it, I'll let him know - Jake says, sounding very proud of his warriors. Luke is Asher’s Gamma, Luke’s parents and mine were best of friends, as are Jake and Luke thick as thieves.
Once at the Packhouse, I quickly shift and change clothes before making my way inside. I swear no matter what time of day I go to the Packhouse, it's always filled with wolves. The office, however, is on the Alphas floor, which no one is allowed on without reason.
I knock quietly to make sure nothing important is happening.
“Come on in.” I heard Alpha Asher say, pretending to not know who it was.
I walk in as he spins around his chair, giving me a grin. I think he just enjoys showing off his big boy office sometimes.
“I was debating if you were going to show up on time,” he teases, last time I stopped by the kitchen to get myself a snack, in turn making me a little tardy.
“The kitchen was out of granola bars so I thought I’d grace you with my on-time presence.” I jokingly say as I take a bow in front of him, I see him give me a playful frown, as he hates when I always have quick comebacks to his remarks.
“I heard some new recruits are being trained, and I wanted your honest report of how it’s going. I would ideally like to have this batch doing daytime security sweeps as training while it’s not too dangerous.” While swirling his whiskey glass, trying not to give away the eagerness in his voice.
Since I am the pack's head warrior, we have meetings from time to time to go over progress reports. I was lucky enough to learn that from my father. When he and the former Alpha John would have meetings, sometimes I got to sit in and learn.
I sat up from my chair, attempting to be as professional as possible, “The pups are doing well, working out some maneuvers and techniques. I think in a month's time they can start doing perimeter sweeps…. Accompanied by another omega until they become a bit stronger.” I can see the Alpha in some thought, I am sure he did not like my omega idea.
“We have strong numbers surrounding Silver Fox, I don’t think there is a reason to send the new recruits out on their own for at least a few months.” I quickly got out with a lot more compassion in my voice than I realized. I have a soft spot for new recruits and Asher and I have disagreed in that aspect before. However, I always do stand my ground knowing his say is final.
“I can mull this over with Jake and Luke, I just need to make sure we aren’t expanding unnecessary resources,” he says as he gulps down his remaining whisky. The pack is strong, but he believes more in fast progress, as I take my time, especially when it comes to training.
You should ask him to come down to the training grounds himself to spar - Midnight growls.
I do like the idea of him seeing the training first hand, I think to myself. What would you do without me? Midnight purrs as she validates herself.
“Hey, why don't you come down to the arena tomorrow and check out the recruits? Bring Jake and Luke! I am sure the recruits would love to see their Alpha, they might even step it up.” I am standing now since this has excited me a bit. In the past, he usually pops in but never really makes himself known as he likes observing more.
“Hmm, I guess popping in couldn’t hurt. I am invested and it wouldn’t hurt to spar with a few.” Asher emphasizes spar to get me riled up, he thinks I coddle my recruits and he can be a bit tough.
I look at him with a frown as I squint my eyes.
“They are still pups, they will have plenty of time to hurt themselves,” I said with a semi-serious tone. I do not enjoy inflicting unnecessary pain even though that can be part of training.
He chuckles, knowing he got the reaction he wanted. “ I am kidding, if I do train with them it’ll be in human form, pinky swears not too much harm.” I roll my eyes to which he gives a low growl, to which I let out a chuckle. Now I have my reaction.
We talk more, as it turns a little more casual. After a while, he chugs his whisky and dismisses me. Sometimes I forget he is an Alpha, but still my friend, who I cherish deeply.
Sometimes I really don’t understand why we don’t date him - Midnight howls in my head, I roll my eyes hard as I make my way to the kitchen.
Don’t be silly, he is great, but he needs a princess-type girl not a husky warrior - I tell her as I sit in the kitchen remembering easier times before Alpha and warrior status.
