Chapter 6- Changing Eyes

2476 Words
The Enemy Carlin could not stop talking. She liked to talk a lot. Her white hair was pinned in an updo, a braid stemming from her hairline to her bun. Carlin wore a flowing lilac dress. It looked as if the wind moved it. But from my perspective, there was no draft in the ballroom. Someone cleared their throat and caught my attention. Not that they needed to try. It was the footman. He was standing on the other side of the room. Near the end of the stairs. "May I present General Siren and Prince Cain from Aquila," he said elegantly. I looked up to my enemies. A young girl, maybe seventeen or eighteen, walks delicately down the stairs. She looked oddly familiar. So this was the mysterious Princess Siren? She wore a dark teal dress with a plunging neckline and no straps, showing a good amount of cleavage. Her black heels wrapped around her calves like a goddess. I noticed a silver dagger placed in one of the strings. Sneaky. Her silver crown placed neatly on her head and her blonde hair looked damp like she just came out of the shower. Her beautiful green eyes searching the ballroom, they brighten with every person they landed on. Then her eyes landed on me. They suddenly changed to grey, like a storm at sea. Her changing eyes surprised me. Not many Aerials could do that. I could do it but I always thought I was the only one. She looked absolutely divine but her smile and her eyes were a beauty of their own. She leaned down to whisper something to the little blonde boy that was clutching her hand. His teal blazer matched her dress. She raised her head and laughed with the little boy. Once she reached the end of the stairs, the princess made a straight line for the right of the ballroom. She hugged Thalia, the Earth princess. Typical. They laughed and smiled while they caught up with each other. "Stop drooling. Someone will notice," Carlin says behind me. "She is Beautiful, isn't she? She's the second born to King Daniel and Queen Lana. Siren is the General of Aquila's military." "Her sister is going to become queen but the people of Aquila say they would rather have Siren as their queen. And if I'm being honest I do too. They say her sister is not fit for the position. Denali doesn't even swim in the ocean, wants nothing to do with it," she continues as I'm still staring at the Princess. "She is said to be the best General that Aquila has ever seen. Not to mention that Siren is a Whisperer," she says. My eyes widen and I turn back to Carlin. "She's the Whisperer," I gawk. This teenager is the one my soldiers call 'Luna', this child is the one that sends so many of my men to the grave. "She can't be. She can't be older than Azaria." Carlin scoffs "Siren is a wonderful warrior and has sent your army running many times, hasn't she?" Carlin continues to fawn over this Aquilian General. "Whisperers feel a connection with every dragon they meet. She takes time out of her day to spend as much time with every dragon. She lets dragons rest on their travels and doesn't force any of them to fight. But they do because of their loyalty to her. Siren is kind," Carlin glares at me like I just offended her. "But don't be fooled, she is ruthless in battle and very loyal to her country. As they say, the ocean might look inviting but she will drown you once you take your floaties off," she shrugged. "Who said that," I ask her. "Me," she responded bluntly. I scoff. "How in Kar's name do you know this," I throw my hand up. "Super hearing, dumbass. And I've talked to her a few times," she shrugs again. "Do you have to call me a dumbass?" "Yes because that's what you are." She looks at me, a cold glare hung in them. "I feel sorry for you. I would be absolutely terrified to go against her. Her hand-to-hand combat is crazy good. I got here early today and was able to walk around the palace grounds. I saw her fighting with her second in command and in three seconds she had him on his ass." I go back to looking for the whisperer not wanting my friend to keep boasting about my enemy but yet she was not there. I look at the dance floor and I see she is dancing with the little boy from earlier. An upbeat song was playing and she and the little boy were rocking out. I chuckled at their childishness. I see that others were glaring at the prince and princess but they didn't seem to mind. After the song was done she curtsied and the boy bowed. They both laughed. He rushed off, most likely to find his mother. She moved to the food table and started talking to the Ice prince. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see my father glaring at me like always. His hair still perfect. "Father," I nodded to him. "Queen Lana would like to speak to us privately," he said gruffly before walking up the stairs. I reluctantly followed not wanting to leave the teal beauty. We arrived in front of two driftwood doors. Images of dolphins, fish, whales, and water dragons carved delicately into the grains of wood. A guard pushed open the door to let us in. Queen Lana was dressed in a seafoam ball gown. Her dark hair flowed past her shoulders. Plump lips coated in a light pink gloss. Crystal eyes pierced my father and me. Her delicate hands closed a book and put it back on its shelf. I could see no similarity between the Queen and General Siren. The room we were in was quite big. With a couch on the left of me and bookshelves lining the walls. Her glass desk sat in the middle of the office. I saw portraits of her children above the couch. A brunet was closest to the door. In her portrait, she pierced her lips and held a high poster. I knew she was trying to act regal. The next portrait was a blonde that looked like Siren. That's probably because it was. Now that was what royalty was to look like. Her eyes glared at the painter like she didn't care to be there. Her lips in a small, relaxed frown. Her left hand rested on a beautiful sword and the other sat on her hip. She wore a vested tailcoat, a corset on top of that, and Black pants. Her blonde locks were braided to one side. All of her beauty almost distracted me from the large black wolf sitting at her side.  Finally, the third painting was of a small boy with blond hair and green eyes. That boy was the same as the one that walked down with the General.  "Lana," my father said. "Fernando," she replied. I stood there not knowing what to do or say. "As much as I want to win this war between us, I don't want to put my daughters and son at risk anymore. I do know that my daughter would have won the war but lucky for you she is smart enough to put a stop to it" she states. "I highly doubt your eldest came up with any ideas," My father says with a smirk. "Father, her middle child is the one the soldiers call 'Luna'," I whisper to my father. He looked surprised. "Your daughter is the general," He said to the queen. "Yes my second child is the Whisperer," Lana had an angry look in her eyes. "But as I was saying, I propose that we stop this feud," she continues but before she can finish my father interrupts her. "How do you propose this," he rolls his cold eyes. "Well Fernando if you would let me finish I could tell you," she snaps. Her hands steady her body against the table. "A marriage could be the way to end this feud and finally be at peace," she sighs. "No, not happening, I won't have my bloodline tainted with your family," My father yells. "You would really add more bodies to your cemetery," She yells back. "My daughter has no problem killing every last one of you!" With that my father losses it. "She won't do s**t!" "Father, if Queen Lana's daughter is the Whisperer, she won't have trouble killing the entire kingdom including the royal line," I say frantically. My father doesn't care about the people but he does care about continuing the royal line. "Son this is your decision. You can ruin our lineage," his hand slides down his face in frustration. "I would rather ruin our lineage than lose more lives," I say with a cold tone. I turn to the water Queen "On one condition," I say while holding up one finger. The queen nods "I get to choose who I marry. You have two daughters, yes? I'm not going to spend the rest of my life with someone without my input," I say coldly. "You will have your answer after the ball." "As you wish Prince Damon," she sighs. I left the room without another word. When I finally reach the ballroom, Siren was still talking to Prince Jason. I take a glass of champagne from the waiter before I feel a body crash into me. I look down at the little prince that was dancing with Siren. He looked at me and quickly looked down. "I'm very sorry sir, please forgive my clumsiness," he says still looking at the floor. I looked up back to Siren. She obviously saw her little brother bump into me. A worried expression covered her face. Her eyes an electric blue. I looked back down at the little boy. I kneeled to his level. "Prince Cain, correct," I ask him remembering the portrait tag. His eyes still staring at his feet. He nods. "I forgive you and your clumsiness," I chuckle "but in return can you tell me where your sister is, please." He finally looks at me. His green-yellow eyes sparkling. "Which one? You have the nice one and the mean one," he asks. "Denali, I believe her name is," I put my hand on his shoulder. He points to the south side of the ballroom with a 'good luck'. There was a beautiful brunette with a pink gown where Cain was pointing. Not exactly what I expected. I walked to an area close enough to hear her. She was talking to other girls. "Yes it a family heirloom," she giggles. Her voice was high and annoying. "May we see it," the girl in the middle says. They were most likely daughters of wealthy merchants. "Ew, no," she says grossed out. The girls looked taken aback.  Well, this princess is a b***h.  She sees me and her eyes grow a mischievous tint. Shit, she's coming over. "Hi hot stuff," she says trying to act cute. "Hello princess Denali," I say curtly. "What do you say, how 'bout we get out of here," she says with a seductive smile. "I'm fine here," I say walking away. I head to the bar and get a fire whiskey. Flames burning the drink. I'm close enough to the food table to see Siren but too far to hear her. She was talking to Thalia when a little girl from my kingdom tugged on her dress. My eyes widened slightly. I didn't know what Siren was going to do to one of the people from her enemies' nation. The little girl says something to the princess. She smiles and bends down to Katherine. Siren then brings her hands to the back of her neck. Siren unhooks her necklace and makes the little girl turn around. Siren gently places the necklace on Katherine's neck and smiles. Siren says something to the little girl and Katherine runs off to her parents with a large smile on her face. Her parents looked so surprised. The Princess of the water nation just gave a valuable necklace to a Funa child. I moved closer to Siren to get a better listen to what she was saying. "Only you, Sea," Thalia giggled. "I can't blame a child for what her leaders have done," Siren responds. Her voice was intoxicating, unlike her sister's. "Plus she can pull that off more than I can," she gives a breathy giggle. "So how is Jax doing," Thalia asks. Shit is there a guy involved? "He is still a pain in my ass. Today we were training and he got all tough trying to see who a better fighter. Let's just say he got his ass handed to him," she says with triumph. "What can you expect. Jax has always had a huge ego. I'm still surprised you made him your lieutenant," Thalia tries to hold back a laugh. A man with dark brown hair walked up to the girls. His sharp jawline flexed as he slowly ate a cracker before saying, "You two are talking s**t aren't you?" Siren answers, "No of course not." Her silk voice was sarcastic. "I'll be right back, that Icen drunk is arguing with Jasper," as soon as he appeared he had left. The girls laugh and then continue their discussion. "I see that Denali still hasn't got her feet wet, and I mean literally," Thalia rolls her eyes. "I don't know why she is becoming queen. She has never wanted anything to do with the water even before dad died. So she can't use that excuse," Siren shakes her head in frustration. "Are you saying you'd rather lead because if you are I'm so down for that," Thalia clasps her hands together. "I couldn't lead," Siren says with a sigh. Thalia looks at her with confused eyes, "What do you mean. Of course, you can." "If I was to become queen I would have to live here and I can barely be here for a week," her eyes never leaving the floor. "But I did kill two birds with one stone," She told Thalia. "I told my mom that the only way to stop the war is a marriage. Let's hope to the gods that the prince lives through her torture," the girls giggle. "We both know you were going easy on Funa. You could have killed them all," Thalia whispers. "Yeah but that would mean I'd still have Denali to deal with. Hopefully, my mother talked to the fire prince about it because I'm done with Denali." Oh, Siren little do you know, you will be mine.
