Chapter 4- Emotions of the Enemy

1405 Words
The Enemy "Guess who's going to a party," Jasmine said as she walked into the room. She was holding a brown envelope with the Thalassan wax seal on it. My body grew rigid. Jasmine's silk violet robe laid loosely upon her. Showing every inch of what men chased her for. As the morning sun hit her tan skin, the little seductive smirk rose on Jasmine's face. She plopped on the bed tearing the card open. "We, Royals of Aquila, invite you to the annual Seven Nations Ball. As you know there must be no weapons or unwanted fighting. With good graces, Queen Lana, Princess Denali, Princess Siren, And Prince Cain." A confused look came upon her face "Princess Siren? Who is that?" I shared the same look as she did "I've heard of a third child of Lana but I don't know much more." "Well, you must have seen her at other balls." "I probably have but I've never talked to anyone other than Carlin and Azaria," I say with my hand on my chin. Jasmine threw the card down on the table and then climbed on top of me. She held my face in her hands. "Will you take me, please," she made a big pouty face. "You know I can't. Jasmine, I can't bring you unless we are married," I said with a smirk. "You and I both don't want that. I'd be the worst queen," Jasmine said. "You aren't lying," I laughed while rolling my eyes. "Time to dance with the Devil." I PACED BACK AND FORTH. My hair was still wet from the salty sea. Kyrin's bright green eyes watched my every move. I was still trying to calm down, even after the long swim in the deep blue, my body was still shaking with rage. My eyes are a blazing blue and they never changed back. I was so agitated. Kyrin waged his tail as I sat on my bed. It made a loud thumping noise. I stroked his long black fur, hoping that would calm me down. As I did, he laid his head on my lap, closing his green eyes. I laid on my bed, with my four-arm across my eyes. I stayed there for a few minutes until someone debursed through my room. My body shot forward, my eyes wide as I looked for the intruder. Laughing echoed through my silent room. A blonde boy ran across my room with a grey wolf. The boy jumped and landed on me. He squeezed me with his small arms. I started to laugh and hug the boy back.  "Cain what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be asleep," I ask my brother. My hands rested on his jaw. I held him at arm's length to get a good look at him. His blonde hair was messy and he was smiling so big it made his eyes close. I could already feel my body stop shaking. Cain's wolf, Atlantis, laid next to Kyrin. Knocking heads softly, showing brotherly affection. My little brother looked up at me with his green eyes, "I feel like it has been forever since we have seen each other." My face falls. I feel bad for leaving him alone in this prison. I left him with a mother to busy and a sister that is so self-absorbed she can't love anyone but herself. I left him because I couldn't deal with my problems, I still can't. "The last time we hung out was last year at the last Seven Nations Ball. The one held in Erani," He smiles with joy but I can't help but feel like I've let him down. I try to change the subject to keep me from feeling any worse. "Are you excited about the ball?" He smiles ear to ear and nods quickly. Cain has seen ten Seven Nation Balls' in his lifetime and he loves every single one. The last time we hosted a ball he was only three. So this will be a whole new experience. "What are you going to wear," I ask him. He looks at me and claps his hands in excitement, "I was thinking a sea-green jacket with a white bottom up top and black pants." When I left I promised my brother I would do anything in my power to make each ball the best it could be for him. I promised that I would always be his date until I married someone and I would always wear whatever he came up with. My brother was surprisingly good at coming up with outfits and dresses for the balls. He draws up somewhat of a sketch and shows it to the seamstress that comes by a week before the ball. We all get our own seamstresses and unlike my mother and sister, Cain and I try to help as much as possible. "What sketch did you give the girls," I ask, curious to see my dress. "This time I want it to be a surprise." He said with a proud look on his face. I looked at my brother and smiled. The biggest smile I've had in a long time. WE LAID ON MY BED FOR A FEW MORE HOURS. I told him all about my adventures and battles and He told me about a time when he and Atlantis swam with sharks. The more I talked to him the more I felt the weight on my heart lift. Talking to him was refreshing. Soon Cain's eyes slowly opened and closed. His body started to slouch. "Why don't we go to bed Cain," I ask him with my hand resting on his cheek. He nodded slowly and laid his head on the pillow. I turned off the lights and laid on top of the covers. Cain and I faced each other. His eyes closed and his chest moved slowly. I feel a tear fall down to my pillow but I quickly wipe it away. My eyes closed, ready to succumb to sleep. "Sissy what was dad like," My eyes shoot open. "Cain," I say while rubbing my eyes "What time is it?" Moonlight floods my room, making everything bright. "It been about two hours since we fell asleep," he said looking straight at the wall across from my bed. I sighed, "I tell you in the morning. Let's go back to be-" but he stops me before I could finish. "I just wanna know what he was like. You and Dee got to know him! Why can't I hear about him," in the pale moonlight I see a tear fall from his cheek. I quickly sit up and pull him to my chest. I run my hand on his hair trying to calm him. "Mom doesn't want to talk about him. She always tells me 'Maybe tomorrow Cain' but she never does," he cries into my chest and grips the material on my back. I sigh, trying to gather the strength to talk. "He was strong. When I was seven, Funa attacked the Capital for the first time and I remember he visited the people and talked to them all. Dad calmed everyone down and stayed strong in a very dark time," I felt Cain's heart rate go down and his breathing was less rigged, so I continued. "You have his eyes, did you know that? I would always look into his eyes and feel safe no matter what. And no matter what I always felt loved." I chuckled remembering a memory. "He used to carry me on his shoulders and we would run around the castle. The first time dad held you, you grabbed his nose and wouldn't let go. It was probably the best thing anyone had ever seen. Dad tried so hard to get you off but you wouldn't let go. Oh Cain he loved you so much. One night I wanted to see you so I went to your room and there he was. Sitting with you sleeping on his chest and he had fallen asleep with you," I stopped and looked down. Cain had fallen asleep. He was still in my lap and my hands rested on his head and back, holding him close. My nose started to burn. I looked up to the heavens while tears raced down my face to my neck. I just sat there silently crying until I let the pain drift me off to sleep.
