Chapter 2- Sarcastic Smiles

1636 Words
"I sometimes hate dragons," Jax says. Silver gates fenced them in. There were at least fifty stalls in the Stavl, holding dragons on their travels and dragons that are sick. "General," A shrill voice filled the large room. An Earth dragon twitched in its sleep. "Alexis," I'd know that voice anywhere. I slowly turned around. Her light brown hair was up in a tight bun. Neat, clean, and bitchy are the only words you need to describe the witch. Alexis's face was clear of any dirt or scars, showing she didn't feel the need to do much work. "Done much work lately," I asked, a sarcastic smile covered my face. "I have been going over the number of supplies, dragons, and the work effort here," She counts on her fingers, copying the same smile. "It's a pity the dragons didn't quite miss you." "Alexis," Jax says warningly but before he could say anything I place my hand on his chest. "I promise Alexis that these dragons feel everything I feel and trust me when I say that they don't like insults," My voice calm but my body felt hot with rage. Like a calm day at sea with a big ass shark creeping in the waters. Her expression fell into fear. "Sea, your eyes," Jax whispers to me. I had this effect on people that anger me. Not only did I have hundreds of dragons at my side, but my eyes changed. It was a rare and uncommon thing, only a few Aerials could do it. I guess it is supposed to signify power and purity. Some people believe that its an omen from the Gods, telling others that the Aerial, who has this gift, is the definition of power. Bullshit! Everyone, all over, knows that our land was cursed by the Gods when Aquana left her throne. Why the hell would the Gods give me so much power? Exactly, it makes no sense! "Alexis you should leave. Get some lunch," Jax slowly pats my back. Alexis quickly walks out and the guards glare at her. They give a quick glance to me as if asking if I was going to beat them with a stick. I turn on my heels as fast as I could. My running shoes making no sound. Jax shuffles behind me, trying to catch up. A dragon or two growls at him. "You should go to Harry, he has some work for you," I say over my shoulder. "Did you forget that I'm your lieutenant," he mumbles. "Exactly! You are my lieutenant, do as I say," I continue to walk down the long hall. Every dragon I passed, purred at the sight of me. My body relaxes the longer I walked. Finally the stall my heart has been aching to see. This stall was the biggest. Pieces of Moonstone, from the beaches of Lunar Island and Diamond Coral, a gem, that grew in the colorful corals in the reefs. A dark, scaly organism was sleeping. Its deep breaths moved the giant's chest. The grey scales glittered in the sun. A slight flutter in my chest overwhelmed me. It felt as if I was flying. But in fact, she was flying. I knew what she was dreaming. The feeling of being carefree is what I longed for. If only. I reluctantly ask Palira to wake up. Her huge grey body rose from her makeshift bed. Palira's vibrant blue eyes looked at me. Her long wings expanded out to stretch. Palira was about thirty feet long, nose to tail. She was almost 15 feet tall. A moon connected to a wave imprinted on her flesh behind her ear. Powerful dragons will be born with markings of their kind. Palira was quite extraordinary. Part Water Dragon and the other part is Lunar dragon. Very rare, this one. Lunar Dragons are very conservative and only live on Moon Island. As for Water Dragons, well they are one moody creature. Palira means tide in Aquilan, for Lurana helps control the tides. I gave her the usual fish that she loves so much. I used my hands to run over her blue-grey scales, making sure that nothing is penetrating Palira's natural armor. Her eyes flutter close with every stroke. "What took you so long, Mosi Mou?" Palira whispered to me. Her sweet voice ending with the Aquilain word for 'My Half'. A playful glare rested on my face, "It hasn't been long." "When you're hungry, it is a lengthy time," She says with a hint of sarcasm. "Mosi Mou, you should be more grateful," I laugh in my mind. My hands still tracing over every scale. "You can fly if you please," I say. "Mosi Mou, that man that made you so upset," Palira asks. "Don't worry, he's always a pain in my ass," I shrug. Her blue eyes met mine. A twinkle of amusement played in them. I didn't ask what she was thinking in her mind and of course, she blocked me from her thoughts temperately. "I will see you soon, Palira," I say with back turned. Soon a loud gust of wind swept behind me. I knew she had gone. "Your Grace," the soldier at the door greeted me. "Make sure that Lutenite Jax knows that I have left," I say, "Oh and do you have a horse." The soldier looks surprised. "Yes... yes, General," He stutters. "Are you new?" I ask while waiting for the other soldier to get the horse. "Uh no. Well yes. I'm new to guarding dragons," his nervous laugh is entertaining. His common blue eyes showed a scared little boy with a man's body. "Don't worry, they won't eat you unless I tell them to," His eyes widened and I laughed. "I'm kidding. But then again I think the dragon behind me is quite hungry." As on queue, my horse was walked over to me. I look over to the Earth dragon that was hovering over me and wink. I may or may not have told the beautiful dragon to act like he was going to eat the poor man. Hey, sometimes you need to take extra measures to let people know dragons are not to be messed with. After telling the dragon to stand down, I ride out of the Stavl. The brown horse's feet pounded the ground. Not the fastest horse I've ridden. I'm missing the black main whipping at my arms. The wind swirled around my ears. Lucky for the horse, the ride was short. I had the stable master the rains to my horse. "Make sure to take care of this horse," I say as I pad his neck. The stable master's face contorted. My face copied his confusion. I finally realized what he was asking. "He still hasn't returned," My eyes focused on my hands stroking the neck of the brown horse I haven't yet learned the name of. "No, your grace. He hasn't been spotted," The master's voice low. I took a quick breath and met my eyes with his. His peppered stubble reminded me of... Never mind. Stop Siren, Stop it! "He will return, sooner or later," My unpassionate voice tells him to stop talking to me. Where the hell is he? My eyes start to burn but I quickly stop. Strong, I need to be strong. He was the last thing I had from my... OH, MY GODS! Stop, stop thinking about him. I sigh and walk out of the stables, not baring to stay there any longer. My eyes start burning again but this time out of frustration. I pass niners. They all nod to me and I do the same. Some of them give me reassurance. My chambers were neat and tidy as always and the bedding is puffy. I groan as I fall face first on the bed. A KNOCK at the door woke me from my deep sleep. I yawned and rubbed my eyes. "General?" A soft voice spoke through the thick sea drift oak. I turn the sterling silver nob. A small boy, maybe a third, was looking at his feet. His small fingers loosely griped a scroll of parchment. "This better be good," a tiny smirk played on my lips. His eyes still fixed on the ground. "I don't think that the ground needs a letter addressed to me," my expression never changing. "Sorry your grace. My father always thought me-." I cut him off before he could finish, "And now I am teaching you. Always look at people's eyes, it will earn their respect faster." He finally looks at me. Clear crystal blue eyes meet my green ones. His eyes are foreign to this land. "Your eyes," I point out calmly. "Oh, my mother was Icen," his eyes look down slightly. I can't help but notice he said "was". Icen is a great country of ice and snow and one of our greatest allies. "I bet she was beautiful," my face saddened. A tiny glint of reassurance catches his eye. "My father said she was." He finally hands me the scroll and walks away. But I realized i didn't know him. "Hey, what is your name," I shout. He looks over his shoulders and smiles, "Fren." Fren walks away and I can't help but feel as if I have made a new friend. The scroll has a crescent moon and a wave wax seal enclosing it so it can't be read. "Well at least it's not war plans," I think out loud. No, it's just my mother. HEY LOVES This time I have about 1,500 words. YAY! At this point in my writing I'm not getting many views but that's fine *crying in the corner*. I like to post pictures of house seals and characters on w*****d, so please check those out. Love, Seattlefront.
