A few minutes later he saw the cabins. They were quite apart but they were the only ones on this side of the camping, pretty much isolated from the rest. It suited him; it had helped him through the last year, even through the summer.
Being a lone wolf had its disadvantages, no one to protect you but your own self. No one to talk to but humans who knew nothing about his second nature, the one that took over more often than he would prefer. That had to be released when the moon was full.
And now she was here, another wolf, able to understand him. One that could join him when running in the forest…
They were behind his cabin; the door was slightly ajar, just like he had left it. He went in and she was a pace behind him, she waited in the front room while he went to his bedroom.
The change back to human form was easier than the other way around, still it was painful. At least he had developed an internal defence, a small room where he could go and avoid the most of the pain.
Still he felt regret at what he had to give up. 'Step out of it! You have a guest!' he told himself as he was stepping in his jeans. His skin felt raw, to be fully dressed would be torment.
She was waiting where he had left her, "Well, little wolf, go and change. Can you be back in an hour? I'd like to talk to you…" she wagged her tail and he nodded.
He unlocked the door and she left. Not running but fast enough. No one would like a wolf wandering in the camping. They would kill it, in the very least.
People could become very creative if they had the chance and chasing werewolves was one of their favourite occasions.
He went back in when she was at her door.
An hour, enough time to have a shower and make breakfast. Barely enough time, he had to hurry.
Sara couldn't sleep after that dream. it was too early for Anna to wake up so she made some coffee and went to the porch waiting for Lisa to return, or for enough time to go by so that she could go and search for her. She felt the sun on her skin as the hot liquid warmed her stomach, still she felt the coldness of worry to her very bones, 'Where is she? Where did she sleep last night? Is she coming back?' those were the quesrions that Sara couldn't answer but mostly she was trying to hope that Lisa was fine. "She has to be!" she told herself aloud just before a four-legged figure caught her eye coming straight to the cabin.
As a sunbeam touched the figure Sara recognized the wolf she'd seen the previous evening and it was all she could do to stop herself from screaming one more time. But this time it would be out of joy. "Come on, hurry." she told the wolf and oppened the door so Lisa could go in. Sara felt tears welling in her eyes but didn't let them fall. As she followed her friend to their shared bedroom she saw the bathroom's door closing and a few minutes later heard the sound of water running in the shower. She returned to the porch to get her now lukewarm coffee and went to sit on her bed waiting for Lisa to finish so she could apologise for her reaction. 'She will understand my reasons...' she told herself, hoping it would be true.
The water felt heavenly on her sensitized skin, lessening the stings of the change. Lisa thought back to Sara's reaction when she spotted her returning, it was the exact opposite from the previous evening. 'Maybe she got worried.' Lisa thought and applied more shampoo to her hair. She needed some more time alone, to try and get her thoughts in line. First, she had to apologize to Sara... "I guess that will go well." she whispered to herself and then she would have to go back to his cabin. The thought alone had her knees turn to liquid, she grabbed the wall to stay up. It was a close call, she was lucky he gave her a way out. She had heard the stories just like every other young wolf in her pack. Stories of Lone wolves that took great pleasure in torturing those they thought were tresspassing. And the thing was she was tresspassing in a way, she hadn't asked for his permision to enter his territory, she didn't even know there was another wolf up here and now she had about half an hour to go back and offer him a something for his hospitality. It was tradition but she had nothing to give...
Too soon the water run cold and she hastened to rinse her hair and go out to apologize and get ready. She really didn't want to be late.
As Lisa was drying herself and started dressing while mastering her courage Jake was making breakfast, enough for six humans but just barely adequate for two hungry wolves after a night in wolf-form in the forest. He hoped she would be back, prayed to every deity up there that she would like his cooking. His wolf was pacing inside him trying to take over.
His wolf wanted her a bit too much, but Jake wasn't ready to give in. First and foremost he didn't want to scare her off by claiming her, not to mention she could already be claimed... No wolf in his right mind would pass her by, she was... Perfect, in every sense of the word. His wolf growled inside him and he growled back as he turned over the second omelet.'I will not rush her! She's too young, she'll run away. Is that what you want? To chase her away?' he asked his other half only to feel the wolf growling some more before he finally started to relax.
As he finished cooking a scent came to his nostrils, that same intoxicating scent he followed the previous night and he knew she was close. Placing the omelets on the table he ran to his bedroom and put on black t-shirt over his jeans. He didn't bother with socks and shoes, for now he had no intention of getting away from the cabin. He walked to the door and stepped out like a wolf stalking his prey. She was there, her long brown hair was shining with blond and auburn highlights as she walked a few more steps before stopping. She seemed to be talking to herself, debating whether she should go on or go back. And at that moment the decision was made for her as the wind changed and brought his scent to her nose. Her head jerked up and her eyes focused on him full of bewilderment and something else, something he couldn't identify.
A the same time back at their cabin Sara felt giddy as she made some breakfast for herself and Anna. Lisa had apologized for not talking to her earlier and she had managed to apologize for acting like a jerk. But all too soon Lisa had to leave, she said she had something she needed to do, that she would explain later, over lunch. Sara couldn't really do anything so she asked Lisa to be careful and started cooking.
