Chapter 1 - The Wedding
Adrianna banged the door severally. She was extremely mad! Not only was she mad, she was also betrayed and hurt, she couldn't stop crying and bawling her eyes out.
"Danny! George! Open the door for me!" She screamed atop her voice. The men stood there at the door but couldn't dare listen to their former young mistress.
Adrianna sat on the cold tiles, with her back to the door. She remembered how things went south for her.
Adrianna used to be a cheerful girl, always infecting people with her smiles. She was envied by all the girls in her school, and the guys wanted to become friends with her. All through high school and her first two years in college, she was the life of the school.
Her life took a drastic turn when she received news from her nanny that her parents were involved in a ghastly accident. Adrianna rushed home that day to find her father's brother and his family, clad in black clothes, crying their eyes out. She was in doubt, until she saw the autopsy reports. They were driving while drunk and had crashed their car. Adrianna screamed and fell to the floor. Her entire life came crashing down that very day.
Two days after, they were buried. Next thing, her uncle is taking steps towards securing her inheritance. She was asked by the lawyer if she should allow him take her inheritance until she was of age to handle it. She was just twenty then, she she was to be twenty-two. That was the year they estimated her graduation. She accepted. After all, he had been nice to her all the while.
Adrianna later got to figure out that that was her greatest mistake ever made. She lived the following two years in deep regrets.
She dropped out of college, and literally became a slave in her own father's house. She watched her cousin sister finish her own education, and became an actress in the same agency she wanted.
Adrianna learned to leave everything for the sake of peace to reign. She only wanted to wait till she was twenty two, then she would go and file a lawsuit if her uncle did not release her wealth back to her.
She remembered how Ellen had walked in on her writing about her huge crush on Ethan Brian in her diary, and she went and showed her father, saying she (Adrianna) wanted to snatch her (Ellen's) boyfriend.
Adrianna had tried to deny it, but it never went anywhere. The chance she got to be signed under the agency was taken by Ellen, and she had to follow her there everyday to serve as a maid.
Ellen treated Adrianna so badly before everyone, acting like a pampered princess.
Adrianna still managed to get the attention of Ethan, but the next thing she heard was Ethan and Ellen were getting married. Ethan's family accepted Ellen, thinking she was the true heiress. Adrianna was about to show up and defend herself, but somehow, her uncle got to know about it, and had her locked in this damn room.
She wiped her face when she heard the door being unlocked, quickly, she stood up to face the door. When it opened, her uncle walked in with a laptop which he kept on the drawer beside the bed. He turned to stare at her gloatingly. For Adrianna, it was a devilish look, and it made her shiver in fright.
"I figured you would be bored, so I decided to bring you something to watch." He chuckled. Then as if knowing she wasn't going to watch it, he played the video himself. It was the live coverage of Ellen's wedding with Ethan. Adrianna moved subconsciously toward the laptop.
"See, Adrianna. Your father, my brother, was a hella stingy man! He refused to let me work with him, after helping him raise his damn company. Now, he willed everything to you? I couldn't let that happen. I had to take him out, and since your stupid w***e of a mother wouldn't let him go anywhere without her, she had to go with him to the great beyond." He accompanied his words with a terrifying laughter that revoked a different feeling of irritation in Adrianna.
"What has all these got to do with me? I'm the innocent one here? Why do I have to suffer the sins of my parents?" She cried softly.
"Innocent? You were born by two people I hated the most. Your father took everything from me!" He bellowed angrily. "Everything including your mother."
"I don't understand."
"Your mother was supposed to marry me. But she double crossed me and married your father instead, she then made him to kick me out of the company."
"So, you carried this hate in your heart for over twenty years? No wonder you look this ugly!"
Pah! He slapped her. It was a very hot slap that caused her to fall to the floor. She yelped in pain.
"You hate me because my mother refused to marry you? Thank God she didn't! I wouldn't want to have such a disgusting animal as a father."
Tom slapped her again, even harder. Adrianna could feel her eyes spin. But she laughed. She wanted him to kill her. Yes, it was better to die than live such a useless life anyway.
"I wouldn't stand here and banter words with a spoilt brat like yourself. Watch the movie I set for you, darling. When it's over, you can say your goodbyes. Because that would be the last thing you will know and see, before leaving this earth to join your sorry parents on hell!"
Adrianna watched him leave. Her head was aching badly due to the slap. Just as she turned to the laptop, she could see Ethan kissing Ellen. That was when she truly felt the heartbreak. Ellen's joy could be seen even through the screen. Adrianna sat on the floor. The next thing she heard was a huge blast. There was smoke everywhere, and she choked in bid to breathe in air.
Darkness, silence, and then light.
She opened her eye, she was back in her hostel in college. Two years before her death.
