Wayne kept his words. The next day, a team of workers came to decorate the shop. William was surprised when he saw them. He said, "What is... going on? Where did you get the money?"
"Somebody lent me," I explained vaguely.
William looked at me suspiciously and said, "Well, that's a lot. What kind of people would lend you this much? And how could we repay him?"
I knew he was worried, but I couldn't really explain the whole story to him. "Easy, Will. I got my way. If we're going to make a living, we have to run this shop." I was telling both of us. I needed to get out of the pole dancing life. And that shop was the beginning.
How naive I was. I thought the shop would be new hope, but it turned into the beginning of a nightmare.
I went to work as usual in the evening. I put on sexy clothes, went on stage numbly, and danced for those men who drooled over me.
Wayne was right. I was not in a position to talk about dignity with him.
"Jo Jo," Anna called as soon as I stepped off the stage.
I looked back at her and said, "What's wrong?"
"People told you were pretty close to Mr. Wayne, huh?" Anna asked bluntly.
I froze a moment. Everyone knew it. I didn't know if it was a blessing or a curse.
"We met a few times," I said vaguely.
Anna said earnestly, "Jo Jo, you know Mr. Wayne is a dangerous man. I don't care why you get together, but you have to listen to me. You can't afford it."
I looked at her with a bitter smile, "Anna, do I still have a choice?"
Anna paused. She sighed and said nothing.
"Anna, I've been here for a long time. I know how to protect myself now. Mr. Wayne might be my best choice. At least, I won't get hurt that way. As for the future, I'll let nature take its course."
Anna looked at me with compassion in her eyes.
She said nothing more and resumed her stern expression. Then, Anna turned to lecture again.
Looking at her back, I felt a warm current in my heart. There was someone in this harsh place who cared about me.
"Nice dance," the voice came from behind.
I looked back, and Wayne stood there with a contented look.
I was really curious, 'cause that was rare.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" I asked him, smiling.
"There is," he said. Wayne beckoned me to keep up with him.
We entered Room 601 as usual. With a half-smile on his face, Wayne raised his chin at me and said, "What are you waiting for? Pour me wine."
When I came down to earth, I quickly knelt on the ground and opened a bottle of wine for him.
I checked the brand and felt pleased. Wayne was a high-spender. That kind of wine cost thousands of dollars, and I could deduct a lot from that.
I prayed in my heart that Wayne would always enjoy a good mood so that I could make a fortune.
I refused to trade my body, but I didn't hate money.
"Mr. Wayne, anything good happening?" Since I got paid, I had to do my job right. Besides, Wayne didn't cross the line and was always well-behaved.
Wayne laughed and stared straight at me, "You wanna defeat Leopard, right? Here's a chance for you."
"What is that?" I had mixed feelings in my heart, excited and scared. I didn't expect to achieve my goal so fast.
"You're so smart. You must have figured out the relationship between Paul Brook and that woman, haven't you?" Wayne squinted at me.
I thought for a moment, and then I knew who he was talking about. It was Mrs. Fox whom I met that night.
I nodded and said, "Mrs. Fox and Leopard are kin."
Wayne sneered, "Mrs. Fox? You are flattering her. She's a wicked woman who should have gone to hell long ago!"
His cold tone made me shiver. It seemed disharmonious was too good a word to describe their relationship. I heard deep hatred in his words.
Wayne looked at me and said, "Now, it's the showtime. Since we're in a mutually beneficial relationship, you need to do your part."
With a shock at my heart, I knew I had to work for him.
"What do you want me to do, Mr. Wayne?" I asked.
Wayne put on a foxy smile and said, "I want you to seduce Leopard."
"What?" I jumped to my feet. As a result of kneeling too long, my legs were a little stiff, and I nearly fell over. Wayne caught me fast, and I fell into his arms.
"You look like a frightened rabbit," he said with a faint smile on his face.
I looked up, and his handsome face was right there. We were so close that I could feel his warm breath on my face. Somehow, my mind roamed.
"Mr. Wayne, that is not a good joke," I calmed my mind and said.
Wayne put on a solemn face and said, "And that is not a joke. You probably know it. I don't have enough equity in Fox Group to root out my opponents. I'm also in a tight spot."
I nodded, "True, but what does that have to do with me? Revenge is all I want. If I wanted to sell my body, I wouldn't have to compromise with you."
His expression became more unreadable when he heard my words. He smiled and said, "Caroline Brown, I won't give you away easily. Don't panic."
Wayne's words brought a storm to my heart. It felt like the whole world was muted. All I could hear was my breathing and his.
"What? You moved?" Wayne said dryly.
