##Chapter 22 Plan

851 Words
I had heard about Wayne and the Fox family. Those stories were but everyday gossip, so I never expected Wayne to care so much about them. I sat by the bed, watching them go. I was so afraid that Wayne might pull the trigger on Vincent. Then, a group of men rushed in. I hurried to cover myself up with the blanket. They seemed to be guards. As they saw Wayne pointing a gun at Vincent like this, they immediately calmed down and waited for orders. Wayne kept staring Vincent down. Vincent looked funny. Sweat crept all over him, and his knees even went weak. "Calm down, Mr. Wayne," a guard said in shivers. It was only then that Wayne started relaxing and putting his derringer away, "Now go and tell Mrs. Fox that her son is taking a fancy of my woman again." "Mr. Wayne..." "Wayne! You liar!" Vincent added in a panic, "She got here herself! I had nothing to do with it! She's just a stripper anyways!" I held the blanket tighter. I had heard that a million times, but sure enough, this was my first time hearing that in bed like this. Wayne, however, suddenly realized something and put his coat on me. Before I realized what was going on, he held me up. Facing him, I started to get nervous. Wayne then looked at me and then Vincent, "Mark my words. I'm not letting this slide." As he said so, he carried me out of the suite. I buried my head in his arms. His shirt was so thin I could almost hear his heartbeat. By the time he put me down in his car, everything still felt like a dream. "Sorry about that," Wayne suddenly added, "It was my bad getting you into all this." I never expected to hear his apology one day. He somehow felt real to me. I stared at his face, not knowing what to say. "Well? Did that disappoint you? I was a bastard after all," Wayne turned to look at me. I was stunned, "Why do you say that?" It was only then that I realized Wayne was only human. He could get nervous about who he was just as well. His voice told me everything. Nobody could cover up for that kind of nervousness. Not even him. "Look," I added, "That's not what you're supposed to worry about." "About what?" Wayne pressed on. I pulled on the coat and said, "You knew about my family. My mom dumped my brother and me for good. We're nothing worse off now. I've been working hard while waiting for my father to be released. Tomorrow is always another day." The car then fell silent. After a good while, Wayne started again, "I'm not like you." I found that sort of funny. I wouldn't feel much if he had said this earlier, but now that I had seen his weakness, his words felt ridiculous. Of course, to admit he was vulnerable was too much for his status. "Don't act as if you know me well. You're being ridiculous," Wayne added. My fear for him somehow dissipated. He was the one that was offering me to another man, but I somehow had sympathy toward him. "I was only thinking that we had much in common," I replied. Wayne froze for a second and replied, "You?" I smiled. I found myself being able to see through his mask then. "The whole city would know about me pulling a gun for a stripper by tomorrow. Aren't you scared?" Wayne suddenly asked. "Why do I have to? I'm a stripper, after all. I'm supposed to be glad to have anything to do with Mr. Wayne. You're supposed to be the one afraid," I replied casually. Wayne turned toward me with a stern face, but I was no longer afraid. As a result, I stared him down. "You've got all the guts of Garol to talk to me like that," Wayne said. I laughed and then shook my head, "You're only lying to yourself. Do you think all those women are afraid of you? They're only afraid of your money and power. It's just that they don't mind calling it out. Without your aura, what are you?" There was a shudder in his expression. I tried my best not to laugh out loud. I knew I would be having a hard time tearing his mask apart. "Do you have any idea what you're talking about?" Wayne looked at me. I nodded, "Or what? You're only human, but why can't you face that?" Wayne froze for a bit longer and turned away. I felt better somehow. I started to feel him adorable. "Hey. Thanks," I whispered. "For what?" Wayne was surprised, "For my offering you to someone else?" "But you did get here in time. You stopped him before he could do anything," I said with a smile. "Don't get the wrong idea. I was only making sure nobody could touch my woman, and that was it," Wayne tried to sound easy. I laughed and shook my head.
