Chapter 1: The day she arrived.
The classroom was loud.
Voices overlapped, chairs scraped against the floor, and laughter filled the air, but none of it reached him.
He sat by the window, eyes half closed, staring outside like the world beyond the glass mattered more than anything inside.
It always did.
"Hey, did you hear? We are getting a transfer student today."
"I wonder if it is a guy or a girl."
"Hopefully someone interesting..."
He did not care.
New people came and went. They all blended into the same noise eventually.
Then the door slid open.
Silence followed.
The teacher stepped in, adjusting her glasses. "Class, we have a new student joining us today."
A girl walked in behind her.
She looked different.
Not loud. Not flashy. Just quiet.
Her fingers held onto the strap of her bag slightly, like she was holding onto something only she could feel.
"Introduce yourself," the teacher said.
She nodded softly.
"My name is Anna Fred "she paused, her voice barely above a whisper, "I am new here. Please take care of me."
Some students smiled. Some whispered.
But him?
For the first time in a long while, he looked away from the window.
And their eyes met.
Just for a second.
But something about that moment felt different.
He looked away immediately.
Still cold. Still distant.
But for reasons he did not understand, he did not look back at the window again.
