Beginning before the Start
The sun was beaming down on the hot sidewalk of Orlando,Florida. Rosie could see the sizzle of the concrete as she walked home after a long day. Her afro deflating with sweat and humidity, she trudged her black book bag filled with homework up the street. Man I need a break. She thought to herself. Across the street the kids in middle school were getting released the loud dismissal bell rang loud enough that the block could hear. She stopped and watched as the excited kids ran to there cars happily. Excited that the prison was letting them go until the next day they would return. If the school could they would keep us, but they don't have the money... She remembered her years attending that school thinking about the struggle it was to fit in. It was hard being black but not ignorant. Her classmates could tell that her skin was a cover and she was intelligent. As a counter measure she would act bliss and pretend to be on of them. She turned away submerging her memories and looked forward. The library is not far from here. As she took a step forward in her black sneakers a name rang in her ear loud and clear. JYDIN SMITH... The name that was so familiar but came only from her head. Annoyed now she picked her ears and shook her head. The same name has been ringing out of the blue in her head for 3 years now. No matter how hard she tried no face would come with it and the person was a mystery. She walked on.
