Chapter 15
After such a long day in school I was exhausted. Really, what they taught was baby stuff that I learned in my old school. I made a mental note to talk to a teacher and put me up a class. When I reached my room door, I saw Josh standing there. I really wasn't in the mood to deal with him.
"What do you want?" I growled.
He opened his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted by my mobile phone ringing. It was my mom. I disconnected her call, and made another mental reminder to block her number.
"I came here to remind you that we're working on our project tonight. Library, at 6." he gave me a smirk and went.

I was a little late, because I ended up getting lost and going to the cafeteria, but a nice blonde had shown me where to go. Too bad that I was in a cranky mood and didn't exactly be nice to her. When I got there, the three boys had got themselves comfy. And Cory and Nathan were arguing.
"I don't care what I did. Neither should you!" hissed Nathan.
"Really, brother? You nearly killed our mom!"replied back Cory.
When I reached their table, Josh raised his eyebrows at me and held up his hands to tell me that he had no idea what was going on.
"That woman doesn't give a s**t about me, we both know that!" said Nathan.
"Then why did she pay to get you out on bail? Why did she pay for your counselling and your f*cking lawyer?" growled Cory, and then made a face which showed that he immediately regretted what he had said. Bail? I wondered what Nathan was arrested for.
"She did what?" shouted Nathan. I could tell that this was going out of hand.
"Maybe we should do this project?" I volunteered, and saw it was a mistake. Nathan's focus turned on me.
"Why do you care, slut?" he asked.
"What did you call her?" asked Cory.
"A slut. Meaning a b***h who goes around sleeping with every guy she can get her hands on." he spat.
Cory's face turned red. "Just cause she turned you down doesn't mean she's a slut!" he said. Josh looked surprised, and a little amused.
Nathan walked out. Cory stayed where he was, his fist clenched by his sides. We stood awkwardly for a few seconds, and then Josh went out claiming that he was hungry.
"He was dealing drugs," explained Cory. I knew Nathan was bad news but I didn't know that he was into that kind of thing.
"The police found out," continued Cory. "And mom had a heart attack and nearly died. But she paid to get him out on bail. Nathan doesn't know this because of this argument they had ages ago,"
I wasn't used to people pouring their heart out to me and talking about their personal lives. It had been ages since I did have friends and well...I had forgotten what to do in these kinds of situations. Which is why I did what I was good at. Put on a blank face to show them that I didn't care and run away from it.
Yes, I know I'm a coward, but it's what I know best. It's what my whole family had done. My mom avoided us and hid in work. My brother left home. Even I left home. And Luke...well, he just picked the easy option.
I stormed out of the library, thinking of what else I could have done to me Cory feel better. I walked around and around the school, knowing that if I stopped I would probably cry. And I couldn't let them see me cry. Never.
I was outside again, back in the tree's where Cory had found me. But now I realized that if I had stayed there with Cory and comforted him, it would only bring me closer to him. And that was bad. I couldn't trust anyone again, ever.
But when I saw Bridgit reading a book on the bench, she came up to me and hugged me. Yes, she hugged me. And I realized that I had made a friend who cared. And suddenly, all my trust fell on her
