June waited in the hallway, her eyes scanning every student who passed, expecting Luke’s familiar figure to appear any second. He didn’t. Minutes stretched on. Her foot tapped against the floor as impatience crept in. With a sigh, she walked outside and waited near the school gate, convincing herself he might be late. Time kept moving. Then the bell rang—sharp and final, announcing the start of the first lesson. June stiffened. She glanced around one last time, hope flickering, but Luke was nowhere in sight.
