Savage Awakening

PART ONE: She stood there with the Moonlight dripping over her skin. She had no idea what had prompted her to go into the woods behind her house at midnight. But here she was with nothing but her night shirt on. The last few nights had been the same. Restlessness, then the urge to run in the woods, almost like some one was calling her. She could almost hear the voice calling even now. Karma was tall and muscular. She had beautiful long red hair, like fire cascading down her back, And in about six hours she would officially be eighteen. She lived at home with her dad. Her mom had died on the job when she was seven. Her mom and dad were both security guards for the King. But she had always had the feeling there was more to it then anyone was letting on. Her dad promised to explain everything when she was eighteen. She was excited but also a little scared to find out what was going on. All she was allowed to know about her parents job is they ran security, and that the king owned wolves. Witch was weird in its self she had heard howling here and there but never actually seen a wolf. Karma shook her head and turned to go back to the house. She whipped back around when she heard a howl. It sounded really close. She clutched her hands to her chest and took a shaky step backwards. She froze in awe and fear when a huge silver wolf appeared from the trees. It looked at her with beautiful yellow eyes. She noticed a deep scar that ran from the corner of it’s left eye to his lower jaw. She was mesmerized until it took another bold step towards her and growled low in its throat., Suddenly another huge wolf jumped out of the trees! This one was a little smaller then the silver wolf. Karma was speechless how was that even possible the silver wolf was huge. This new wolf was an auburn brown color. It snaked in front of Karma in a manner that could only be described as protective. Like it knew her. It turned to look at her and she sucked in a hard breath, the wolf had her fathers blue eyes. Scared and confused she took off running for the house she did not stop until she was in her room. A few moments later there was a knock on her door. “Who is it?” She asked hesitantly. “It’s dad.” He answered sounding concerned. Before she could respond, he slowly opened the door. He cautiously walked to her and sat at the edge of her bed. “I know your freaked out but before you get to frightened I think it’s time for us to have that talk I have been avoiding. It will explain everything and more hopefully.” He said. “Whats going on dad? How did you know I was upset,” Karma stammered. She flinched when he reached out to touch her shoulder. She needed answers but was unsure if she was ready to hear it. “Sweat heart it is all going to be okay. What you have been experiencing is completely normal for our kind. The late night urge to run in the woods and follow the moon, The unsustainable need for meat, the sound of howling but lack of Wolves in sight.” Tom started, but was soon cut of. “What! What are you talking about! How do you know about the running at night, and the craving for meat! Dad how is that possible?” Karma looked at her father with a strange expression. “I’ll explain just calm down please….” “Calm down! You want me to calm down! Why should I? Are you having me followed and watched? Dad!” She began to panic and her skin began to get hot like lava ran through her veins. “Sweetheart please deep breaths you need to calm down or your going to shift.” Tom said calmly taking her hot hand in his and running his thumb over her knuckles. “Shift? What does that even mean?” She asked taking a breath and slowly releasing it. She did this a few more times as she looked her father dead in the eye. He spoke once she was calm. “Okay, I think your ready now.. We are werewolves sweetheart. You are getting ready to shift into your wolf for the first time. Everything you have known about Me and your mother, goddess rest her soul, Is mostly true. We Ran security for the king for twenty years. But the last five took a toll on every one. This is the part you don’t know. The night your mother was killed there was a breach at the castle me and Lana Were the first on scene. We had the Rogue cornered. But he got past me, that’s how he got to Lana, Your mother. You see the packs were at war over the river lands.” “Wait pack? War? What does that mean?” Karma interrupted. “Dad your not making any sense.” Tom put his hands on Karma’s and took a deep breath he knew that She was going to be upset. But she would be a full wolf in four hours, She’d shift for the first time, maybe even meet her mate at the Annual new wolf moon celebration this weekend. And he knew she may not forgive him for waiting so long to tell her. He could lose her all together. But he had to do it she should know before her first shift. “Yes Karma pack, as I said earlier, we are werewolves, the howling you hear is not animals but your pack. The meat cravings and heightened senses are all preparing you for your first shift. And yes, I have had a close friend follow you discreetly to ensure your safety. There’s the annual new wolf moon gathering in three days, you may potentially find your mate there.” “STOP! This can not be happening, You have lost your mind! I need to be alone right now…. LEAVE!” Karma yelled. She flung herself into her pillow sobbing. “Please sweetheart…” “NO JUST GO” She yelled. Tom stood and walked to the door taking one last look at her over his shoulder, then closing the door. Karma stood, wiped her tears and went to the window. She looked out at the field that ran between her house and the forest. Suddenly there was movement to her right. She snapped her head to the spot and saw a small gray wolf sneaking into the yard. She was about to yell for her father when he stepped into view with a blanket in his hands. Then the wolf transformed into a strikingly beautiful woman. “Sage, my dear how are you?” He asked wrapping the blanket around the woman's naked body. “its chilly out tonight I hope tomorrows warmer for Karma.” “It is supposed to be honey. How is lovely Karma doing have you talked to her yet?” Sage said in a slightly hushed voice. “She only has a few hours left before the change starts and she is going to need us both, you her father and I her guide.” Sage said. “I did, but I am afraid it did not go over very well. Tom responded racking his hand through his hair. “I told you, you should have told her sooner Tom, but she will be okay. Before Karma could hear anymore she turned and bolted down the stairs and into the yard surprising both Sage and her father. “Well hello lovely.” Sage said calmly. She turned to Karma and put her hand on Karma’s shoulder. “I promise that even though this was a complete shock, your father only wanted the best for you and to keep you safe. When you are ready ill be over here.” She said then went to the little chairs and fire pit and sat down. “Is what she said true dad?” Karma asked looking at him. “Yes dear I was worried you wouldn’t understand if I told you sooner.” Toms head bowed in shame. “I knew I had to protect you as much as I could. Loosing your mother with you so young ruined the plan we had for telling you.” He said sadly. Karma just stood there for a moment processing everything. “Okay, So we are werewolves…. That sounds so strange.” She put her hand softly in her fathers hand. No more secrets okay?” Tom looked at his daughter in surprise and awe. “Okay I promise. No more secrets.” He smiled and then led her over to Sage. They sat down and just relaxed for a moment. It was silent for a little while before sage cleared her throat. “Okay, since no one else is gonna start this shindig I guess I will.” She quipped happily She turned to Karma and looked her straight in the eyes..”Okay darling, I am going to give a lot of information fairly fast but don’t fret I will make sure you get to ask your questions, there are a few things you need to know before your first shift. She wiggled in her seat. Karma couldn’t help but notice how her father watched Sage. “First off the first shift is always scary no matter what, even those who had time to prepare themselves get scared so don’t you dare feel bad if you do. Second it will happen fast, some say it hurts others say it happens to quickly to tell. Third your going to need to run to get used to your legs don’t know why but that’s how it goes. Lastly you need to stay close to me while in wolf form. Your a newbie, unknown, another member might mistake you as a rogue. It is my job as your guide to keep you safe, your father can be present at the time of shifting if you want, but considering most shift from a nude state you might not want him there. Do you have a best friend or some one close to you that you would be comfortable to see you in that state?” Sage asked opening up the conversation.. “No I don’t I am a bit of a loner…..” Karma stammered. “I think I will be okay with just you there. You are right when you thought my dad shouldn’t be present for that portion. “I do have a few questions though. First, How do I communicate? Second How long will I be in wolf form? What will my wolf look like? Third, will I change in other ways after shifting?” Karma asked her questions very clearly and calmly. “Last, how do I know I’m getting ready to shift?” She sat back and played with her fiery red hair and chewed on her bottom lip nervously. Sage took a moment to ponder the questions so she could give the best answers possible.
