The Introduction
I walked into the company building and swiped my personal key card at the elevator, clicking the top floor as I stepped in. I was privileged to even have a key card - only those who work on the top floor have one, and there weren't many of us working there. Almost no one ever met the perfect, complex requirements to be near the CEO himself, let alone be on the same floor as him. When the elevator finally came to a stop and the doors opened, I stepped out, my heels clinking on the custom marble floor and echoing throughout the hallway. I held my folders against my chest tightly as I made my way to the CEO’s office, my head held high. Yes, the CEO’s office, because I am his assistant. I have been his assistant for three strong years, going onto four. As I walk past reception and the other offices, I turn my head and take a close look at my roaming reflection, admiring my long, curly, waist-length, jet-black hair and my perfectly clear face. Finally, when I make it to my desk, I sit down, placing my folders into my desk drawer, and then turn my laptop on.
An hour goes by and I'm still sitting at my desk, dedicated to the work I'm typing on the laptop. Eventually, my coworker Amanda, who happens to sit a few cubicles away from me, walks over grinning. I look up at her with a confused expression on my face.
"Oh... EM GEE!! Did you hear about who will be taking Mr. Ashtor's place?" Amanda pulls a chair from the side and sits across from my desk. She stares at me with the same grin on her face.
"Who?" I snort. Even though I am a little upset about my boss retiring, I understand that it's about time he retires since he will be 63 next month. After all, he has enough money to do as he pleases.
Amanda gasps dramatically, then pulls out a magazine. She tosses it on my desk, causing it to slide over to me. On the front cover, I see Mr. Ashtor and his two sons. "No way..." I look up at Amanda in disbelief.
“They are soooo hotttttt!! Makes my p***y throb” She smirks as she looks down at the magazine again, for the 80th time today.
I roll my eyes and scoff, "Amanda, get your head in the game. Haven't you heard the rumors about these guys? They are nothing but trouble, and if I were you, I'd stay away." I look away and begin to focus on my work once again before Amanda interrupts me.
“Girlll, I wouldn't be talking if I were you; you're going to see them every day, all day, forever, as far as we're concerned. Don't forget you'll be their assistant as well.” Amanda bites her bottom lip as she looks at me and waits for a response, but I don't budge. I'm too engrossed in my work to engage in what I consider nonsense and obviously doesn't matter to me.
After a brief discussion with Amanda, I return to my desk. Shortly after, my desk phone rings. Mr. Ashtor, my boss, is on the other line requesting me to come to his office. Promptly putting down the phone, I stand and turn to face his office door. My desk, conveniently located right in front of his office, allows me to reach him quickly whenever needed. I approach the door, apply a gentle grip on the doorknob, twist it, and open the door. Once inside, I close the door behind me, compose myself with a smile, and walk towards his desk where he waits for me.
Mr. Ashtor looks up at me and smiles. “Ms. Richardson.” He stands up from his seat and walks around his desk, making his way to me. He stands in front of me and puts his arm on my shoulder in a welcoming manner.
“As you’ve heard, I am retiring and my sons will take over the company. I would love for them to get to know their new assistant” Mr. Ashtor seems almost excited about his retirement but seemed a little more excited after he mentioned his sons taking over.
I look at him with respect and calmness evident in my eyes “yes, sir. I have been told.” I give him small smile back but it gradually fades as Mr. Ashtor signals towards the couch in his office. When I look over at his expensive, black, suede couch, I see two men sitting down, both looking at me
“These are my sons, Jaxon and Jasper.” Both Jaxon and Jasper stand up and walk over to their father and I. Taking turns extending their hands to me, I put my hand in theirs and we shake hands. After a long 20 minute meeting, which felt like an eternity, I am excused to walk out and go back to my desk. Leaving them to chat amongst each other.
When I make it back to my desk, I sigh deeply. The guys barely acknowledge me. Mr. Ashtor, their father and I, did most of the talking while they merely followed and observed. I spend the rest of the day pondering what the future will hold because come tomorrow morning, I will not have one, but two new bosses to tend to.
