Prologue: Book 1: BLACK
ON AN URBANIZED city, there were two people preparing- one carried the sun and hope in her eyes, while the other one carried darkness. [The world is constantly turning] [The sun is still shining so beautifully] [I’m sad.] [I’m happy.] [That even without me, the world is pretty] [That even without me, the world will go on, just like how it goes on right now.] [it hurts] [it’s nice. *smiles*] The train stopped, and as many people chatted, walked and boarded, a pale high school girl went in, trying to disappear from the sights of the crowd and hide her [feeble] presence from everyone; however, the way she looked drew her people’s attention and everyone stared at her. Her long black, curly tresses shaped like springs extended down her waist; yet her curly bangs were too long it almost hid her entire face, except for her left green eye that was spared- which looked as if she felt disgust from everyone’s eyes, like she was afraid and angry at herself for so many different reasons incomprehensible to human mind. She wore the uniform of a school of whose terms was supposed to start that day- a red coat and black miniskirt that she matched with black stockings and shiny shoes. In her right, trembling hand was the handle of her shoulder bag which she huddled close to her, and on her left was her smartphone stabbed with her pink earphones- and she was searching for songs- and the moment she found the song fitting for the atmosphere, she started humming to the tune reverberating on her ears and smiled faintly--just like that, the people on the train disappeared as if they were never there, and colors of different intensities started springing from her ears- dark reds, blacks, blues- the color of the sound she was peacefully listening to- --which was the reason why she failed to notice the girl beside her who was blonde, and her eyes were blue [as if a bright blue flame capable of hurting], wearing the same uniform as her. She watched- and was enthralled by the difference- no uniqueness of her. She read her nameplate- and figured her name was Akuji. What a nice but a really strange name. She thought to herself and looked at her more. They were about the same height but something about Akuji seemed bigger- a presence that she was certain could out stage anyone- and not surprisingly, all she did in her thirty-minute journey was stare at Akuji’s eyes and be captivated while the latter didn't care at all. Sooner or later, everyone wearing the same uniforms all left the train, and the bystander captivated by the person named Akuji was almost left behind. [Sorry. Excuse me!] She said as she tried catching up to her but she was too fast and wasn’t even aware of her presence- and there- she completely lost sight of her. That smile. I know- it’s a smile only made by a person who loves music intensely. She whispered to herself and held her fist against her chest, and let the wind blow her hair. ******** Going back to Akuji [who hasn’t even bothered removing her earphones], “Hi! Have you ever thought about a club? Want to join us?” a person who looked like a senior [because of the color of her ID lace] spoke with a friendly tone. “By the way, my name is Yelda. You are?” Akuji looked at her and up to the banner hung on the booth. She didn't even notice that she was already walking on the school premises because of the earphones stuck on her ears- nay- she did not notice the people [let me rephrase- she didn’t particularly care]. The moment she removed the earphones, all different sounds- shouting, inviting, singing, inquiring, and all others came barging at her ears- and the look in her eyes suddenly became dead that made Yelda flinch and doubt if it was the same person she was talking to a while ago. “Fix Club.” Yelda said, trying to prevent her from looking at the other booths. “We are a bunch of people who- eh? “ Akuji just came close to the booth and snatched a pen from the pocket on the coat of Yelda and wrote her name on the membership form. There were three people in the booth- a seemingly shy boy, and two girls who were trying hard to smile despite their droopy eyes but she didn’t care. “So your name is Akuji. Nice to m-” but she left without a word. All the other booths looked like they won’t be very active- especially the club she just signed up for since there were only three timid people- and that was all because they were all interested on the only club that prevailed over the students- the Glee club, named after the famous show, and was about a band that ended up in the nationals on their fifth consecutive year. Akuji just left, checked her section, and went straight to the gymnasium for the opening ceremony. __________ “Suzuka? Is that you?” the person from the train- apparently called Suzuka was called out by someone. She looked behind her and saw her senior when she was in elementary- the brown-haired beautiful [as in beautiful] girl in her third year high- the leader of the most famous high school band that resides in that school, Nazarene. “Long time no see.” She said, her brown eyes beamed against the sun and came waving at her. “So it wasn’t a rumor. You really are here. I’m so happy! Will you pleaaassee join my band? We need people like you.” Suzuka smiled and looked her in the eyes. “It’s not like I’m needed because your band is too amazing already. Many talented people come to this school just to join you.” Nazarene smiled and held both Suzuka’s hands. “I’ll convince you. We’ll perform at the entrance ceremony today and you’ll come running to us, wanting to join- and I swear I will welcome you with open arms.” However, just as Suzuka was about to speak, Naza left her and was welcomed by the crowd. Suzuka smiled and thought that Nazarene is still the same-dauntless, talented, charismatic, beautiful- but she knew that she doesn't have time for those kinds of thoughts. She conditioned herself and gasped. "Aight! I'm finally here!" She finally entered the gate, marking her official start of high school life, and she was planning to make it full of life- meaning, full of music. “Welcome to Katakago Academy. The welcoming ceremony will commence shortly. Please proceed to the gymnasium.” The school's speaker clamored. With that note, Suzuka, still not knowing what her class was since she missed her chance to see it hurried with a thumping heart that she can almost hear- since it was about to come out of her chest- and a smile from ear to ear- and leapt towards the gymnasium of the biggest school in their city. Finally. ____________
