Ayira who was tapping her fingers together nervously with her eyes closed until she heard people murmuring and ladies gasping, she opened her eyes to see her worst fear coming true.....the king was coming towards her and was now holding her gaze too.

She dare not avert her gaze, it was like she had been bound by a spell as she stared into the king's blue eyes. As he got even closer, her eyes shook as she quickly managed to lower it "Your..... Majesty" she sounded out of breath as she curtsied. He stood before her revealing an enigmatic smile as he managed to keep his flickering emotion in check "May I have this dance Milady" he said politely, from his tone Ayira knew he wasn't asking.

Ayira was the daughter of a duke in a county far away from the capital her mother died during the birth of her younger brother which made her father whose love for his wife was prominent in his heart hate his only son and heir.

When Ayira came of age .....a letter from the capital arrived inviting her to the king's party which was a yearly festival and now he wants her presence in his party as well as other young maiden who had just come of age.

"It's that time of the year again i see? ". "Yes milady....I heard the vampire king is getting anxious and is bent on finding his bride this time, that is the only reason he would invite all young maidens regardless of the status" It was her nanny Edna who answered coming to stand right behind her. But all Ayira could focus on after her words was the fact that he was selecting his bride "the vampire was selecting his bride and I am one of the candidates!!!" She thought to herself as her organs trembled in fear.

The tweeting of the bird and the constant contact of it beak on the window glass woke Ayira up, she slowly fluttered her long lashes open and frowned at the source of the noise. When she tried to sit up a splitting headache kept her in place, holding her forehead she groaned as she sat up and turned to the bird that was still trying to get her attention. A small smile graced her face as she noticed the bird, walking towards the window she winced with each step she took. There was no place she didn't feel pain in her body but she couldn't remember why or what she did the night before that could have caused such a pain. "Hello Dawn" she said in a small melodious voice as she opened the window for the bird to come in, it stood on the window pane turning it round purple eyes around before pecking on her palm with it beak as a form of greeting. "You are a beautiful shade of yellow this morning" she muttered as she caressed the bird's head. It simply pecked on her palm as if to answer her then flew away. When it was gone Ayira saw the stalk of flower it left behind, hands on her chin Ayira wondered what it means this time. The bird had a way of talking to her and usually it is about things that was going to happen. "I'll find out soon enough" she said and sat down on the bed waiting for her maid to come in. Soon enough Edna came in, a bubbly woman with a round chest and short legs. "Good morning milady" she greeted showing off her tiny set of teeth. "Morning Edna.....did you check on Adrian yet?" "Oh I surely did.....I made sure he was up and about before coming here" Ayira frowned at that, whenever like the way her father worked her little brother's ass off. It had become a routine for the eight year old boy to wake up to cutting a whole log of wood every morning so as to remind him of where the family's life came from but she couldn't even complain. She sighed "Any good news today?" She asked while walking towards the mirror, Edna paused I her steps to the bathroom. "Oh yes milady there surely is".Ayira raised her brows and turned to the maid who was more than ready to talk, "an invitation to a ball came for you this morning and and its not like the other ones you rejected" she shared eagerly waiting for her lady to tell her to continue. Ayira nodded for her to continue this time with furrowed brows, she never like balls and she had always refused to go to one and now her maid was telling her that it was good news. She thought as she decided to hear her out first "But......but I still think it is better you hear directly from your father" Ayira's heartbeat quickened as Edna concluded, she couldn't help feeling uneasy seeing the way the talkative Edna was hiding it from her and so she pressured her until she spoke up. Whatever news she ever needed to hear directly from her father was never one that would please her much, she could tell her father loved her very much but it seems to be in a wrong way. He was obsessed over her perfection, labelling her as the light of their family, even went as far as naming her as such 'Leora' was her other name which was given by her father and that was what he called her Shaking her head, Ayira started packing her hair up seeing this Edna hurried to her side to help her with that. "Edna why do you make it sound like it's only me who was invited?" Edna smiled sheepishly and looked into the mirror. "It's truly not only you......but you're the only one representing the county, no one else from the Winsdor Lineage is at the required age" Ayira hummed and toyed with her hairpin "well maybe it's just the maidens of every family " Edna exclaimed and hit her head at the realization. "That is actually true milady........ Only lady Catherine of the Sinclair's family was invited too" She replied thoughtfully. Ayira sighed and shook her head. "It's that time of the year again i see? ". "Yes milady....I heard the vampire king is getting anxious and is bent on finding his bride this time, that is the only reason he would invite all young maidens regardless of the status" Ayira's face etched with worry at the last part of her words "the vampire was selecting his bride and I am one of the candidates!!!" She thought to herself as her organs trembled in fear, it was just impossible for anyone not to worry about such a thing. It has been many years ago since the two races came to a truce, the humans and the vampires. Long before that, vampires oppressed and enslaved humans just to have a drink from them whenever they want to. It was a hellish long period of suffering from them all. Until the humans fought back with all determination, they were killed a lot but after their unyielding fighting. They came to a stand, vampires could have their blood only with their consent and they could only have a decent amount from the human. A drink that wouldn't not kill or bring them to the brink of death. Since then, it has been a peaceful and careful union between them, there were cases of vampires who went wild but they were taken care of by the guild formed by the vampires and humans to protect things like that. But the humans only had one position in the court, the vampires still ruled over them and they accepted the fact that it was a fit position for them as they were superior to them and could also protect them from dark forces that emerged a few years back. They complied and lived by the rules till presence to protect themselves but they never went past each other's boundaries. "I'm sure you have heard of the invite Leora dear" her father the Duke of Winsdor Family which was famous for its woodcutting Lineage which had been passed down for decades Grant Winsdor spoke as she settled in for dinner, he had blonde hair and his light blue eyes that always seems to pierce into ones soul stared at Ayira, the fact that all the maids had been sent out of the dining room means it was a very important matter, being alone in the room with her father made Ayira feel very uneasy even though her eight years old brother was quietly eating his food so timidly that his presence was unnoticed. If Grant scared his daughter then he frightens his son and it wasn't an understatement that he was very intimidating, he wiped his mouth with the kerchief on his laps. Ayira set down her spoon and faced him while the hands on her laps played nervously, her voice was rather very composed compared to her hands. "Yes father". He nodded "You'll be leaving for the capital tomorrow......and Adrian won't be coming with" the first part surprised her but his last sentence made her pale.
