CHAPTER ONE Ariella’s POV I barely stifle a scream of pain as Zosia stomps hard on my foot, digging into the flesh of my leg exposed by my sandals. Her heels are pointy and sharp, and there's a vicious expression on her face, filled with wickedness and malice. It baffles me why a girl with such an angelic face and frail nature would be good at lies, manipulation, and hurting others while playing the victim. She stomps on my feetagain, pushing it deeper with a smirk on her face. I clench my fists trying not to scream out or hit her. My husband, Maximilian Valdez will immediately attack me if I ever retaliate against his precious Zosia. To him, she's the harmless angel, while I'm the demon always trying to make her cry even though she just came out of trauma. “How does it feel, Ariella? How does it feel to be stomped on? This is what you deserve, what you forever will. You're a worm beneath my feet that I can stomp to death at anytime! At this point, aren't you ashamed of bearing the title of Mrs Valdez? With just a little tear from me, Max will even kill you if I so wish.” She whispers, still smirking in that annoying evil way of hers. I clenched my fist, trying harder to suppress the fury burning within me. But I failed. My hands immediately shot up to her face, slapping her hard across the cheeks. Her eyes widened in shock, not believing that I slapped her despite the warning from my husband not to ever retaliate against her. I'm no saint, there's a limit to my patience. But it seemed the slap didn't really get to her. She lets out a chuckles before wiping the blood from the corner of her lips, caressing the mark my palm left on her face. “What do you think Max will do to you if I tell him you slapped me? Will he skin you alive or chop off one of your fingers to soothe my anger?” She asks, not hiding the smugness in her tone. I return her smirk, taking a step towards her. “Zosia, I also have a question for you. How does it feel being a homewrecker, a disgusting mistress trying everything to crawl into the bed of the man you call brother? If Max loved you, why did he marry me? You're only here, acting as you please because he promised your late brother to take care of you. But because you are not content with the position of his sister, the title of a mistress seems more appealing to you.” Her eyes immediately turn fierce with anger. It seems like my words hit a sore spot. But she quickly collects herself and smiles at me. My heart turned cold. That smile of hers is familiar, she does it whenever she's about to pull an evil stunt. I quickly look around for a possible alibi. I can't understand how this crazy woman's mind works. But everyone is busy socializing. We are in the Sebastian family's yacht, celebrating the engagement of their last daughter. I had chosen this dark corner because I wanted to stay out of her way, but who would have expected that she would still follow me here to cause problems? “If both of us fall into the water at the same time, who do you think Max will save?” Zosia asks, smirking cruelly. I look back at her and see her hiding something behind her. I quickly try to grab her hand because I'm sure that whatever she's holding won't be something good. Before I can reach for her right hand which she was hiding behind her, she stabs a knife into my belly with her left hand, making the air whoosh out of me. The pain didn't register, only shock. She can even stab me now? Just how far is she willing to go? “Remember this Ariella, the one who is not loved is the mistress.” she sneers. I immediately turn around to run, holding the knife steady. At this point, fighting her is useless. The only thing I can do is escape to safety. He who runs escapes to fight another day. But I stagger, making me reach for the rails instinctively. I'm losing lots of blood, way too much. My vision is already blurry, and the knife keeps shifting and cutting me up. At this rate, I won't be able to get help before I collapse. I hasten my step but suddenly feel a harsh tug on my hair. I turn slightly to see Zosia clutching my hair tightly with that same wicked smirk on her face, her wide eyes doing nothing to hide the evil intentions beneath. “You want to escape, scream for help, and tell them I attacked you? Dream on! I'm the only one who can do all that, and you will remain the evil one who tried to kill me. Ariella, I will make you completely give up on Max. How dare you compete with me?” Damn it! At this point, I couldn't care less. She should let me go and keep him to herself. I try to fight her off, but I'm too weak. The blood loss is making me see double, causing me to miss my aim every time. I open my mouth to speak but she suddenly gives me a hard shove, pushing me over the railing and into the dark, cold sea. Her shrill scream rents the air, like one in deep pain, even before the sound of the splash created by my fall could reach them. From my hindsight, I see her fall to the ground and stylishly knock a nearby buffet table down, sending the glasses crashing down. I see people rushing towards her. I wanted to scream, shout, yell and cry that I was in danger and that I was the one that needed attention and that I was in pain. But the sea swallows me up before I could utter a word. Was this how I was going to die?
