The Mysterious Dragon's Attack
At the northernmost tip of the Eastern Continent, on the edge of the North Hudson Magic Abyss, Arthur Hill, the general of Eastern Continent Emperial, is inspecting the battlefield with his troops. “General, the polar night will soon fall, the snowy night will bury all roads in darkness, should we return to the outpost as soon as possible?” A knight steers his snow leopard mount to the side of Arthur Hill and ask. "Let's patrol the edge of the Magic Abyss once more; the strange disturbances in the night sky have made me very uneasy," Arthur Hill says, furrowing his brow. So a dozen of knights continues to ride northward. The pale golden sun on the horizon gradually sinks below the line of the earth. The silvery moon rise, its dim light casting upon the snowy plain and stretching long shadows behind the knights. "The Magic Abyss is just ahead." At midnight the next day, Arthur Hill and his troops finally approach the Magic Abyss, the destination of their inspection. They find the faint blue light continuously rising, gathering, and dissipating in the sky, as if it were spring water gushing from the bottom of a well. "Seems like there's nothing unusual, General." Arthur approaches the edge of the Magic Abyss, observing the magical energy overflowing from the abyss. After scouting around for a while and finding nothing unusual, he turns to the knight behind him and says, "It seems I was overcautious. Let's head back." Arthur is about to turn around when suddenly the wind picks up, a distant howling sound comes from the horizon, and snowflakes dance through the air, soon enveloping the entire snowy plain. “What's going on?” “The Wave of magic power?” The soldiers are halted in their tracks by the gale, unable to move. Through their fingers, Arthur finds the dim silvery-white night sky as if it has ignited with blue flames, and then bursts forth with fiery red flames. The two-colored flames dance in the sky, gathering the raging winds into a howling ghostly roar. The scene in the sky has surpassed the knights' known realm, leaving a dozen of them stunned. Suddenly, a few clear and crisp roar come from the distant sky, and the neighing sounds again, now from above the nearby Magic Abyss. "This is... a dragon?" Dragon? Sure! Only the wings of a dragon can stir up such a gale, only the body of a dragon can survive in the magical tides, and only the dragon's roar can resound through the heavens like this. But across the entire continent, including the Eastern Continent, the Western Wastelands, the Northern Ice Fields, and the Southern Island Nations, the number of dragons is so few that one can count them on one's fingers, and there have never been any reports of dragons traversing thousands of miles to this extreme northern land. However, before anyone could get a clear look at the dragon, a golden storm suddenly surges within the howling winds, striking the small team, like a huge wave falling from the sky. "General, watch out!" As soon as Arthur Hill utters a magic spell and cast a protective magic shield in front of his troops, he see the knight beside him struggling to maneuver his mount to shield him. This is the last scene he sees before losing consciousness. When Arthur Hill wakes up again, he only feels a chilling coldness throughout his body, as if enveloped by countless shards of ice, and a throbbing headache, hearing only the distant, childish voices. “Noah! Come on Noah!” “What’s wrong William?” “Look! Someone is floating on the reiver! And glowing!” The voice Arthur Hill heard comes from two children living In the lower reaches of the Hudson River. They drag Arthur Hill out of the water and pull him to the shore with a dog sled, bringing him back to their village and calling for the chieftain. "He's wounded and extremely weak, bring me my medicine chest quickly!" Seeing the lifeless face of the general, the chieftain urgently tells Noah. Noah fetches the medicine chest, and together with William, they lift the unconscious general, pouring the potion into his mouth, then add a few pine branches to the fireplace, and wrap him with a heated blanket. "Oooooh~~~" "Oooooh~~~" Suddenly, the sound of a conch shell horn blares more and more urgently, and with it, a hoarse voice cries out: "The snow leopards are coming! The snow leopards are coming! Everyone hide quickly!" A hunter appears at the north entrance of the village, riding a horse. All the people working inside and outside the village stopped what they were doing. Men and women, old and young, quickly unharnessed the deer from their work tools in the fields, herded the chickens under the eaves into cages, and packed the pigs that were feeding into baskets... Every household hurriedly drove these livestock into their houses or carried them indoors. Then all the people descended through the hole and locked the iron plate door from the inside. "Noah, come in quickly," the chieftain hears the horn and hastily directs Noah and William to carry the general to the basement. Turning around and not seeing Noah, he urgently calls out, "The snow leopards are coming any moment," his voice growing more and more anxious, more and more stern. "Chieftain grandpa, I'll be right there, the rabbit I caught yesterday is missing," Noah is anxiously searching for something outside the house. "Aooo~~~" The cry of a snow leopard echoes from the distance, getting closer fast. The chieftain watches as Noah's small figure dashes out of the house, rushes to the courtyard entrance, and grabs Noah by the scruff of his neck. Ignoring his kicks, punches, and cries, "Let me go, I'm about to find it. Without it, William and I will go hungry these next few days!" The chieftain grabs Noah, leaps into the basement, and just as the iron door of the basement clicks shut, the snow leopard has already rushed into the house. Hiss~~Hiss~ ~ The sharp claws scrape against the iron door, producing a terrifying scratching sound. Several snow leopards circle around the iron plate, sniffing it, while white mist blows down from the plate. "Waah, Chieftain Grandpa, my rabbit must have been eaten by the snow leopard," Noah cries out loud. "Noah, listen, we can hunt another rabbit," the chieftain says with a sense of helplessness, comforting crying Noah. "Chieftain Grandpa, why don't any of the many hunters in the village go and kill these snow leopards?" William is also sobbing, gasping between cries as he asks. "Ah~~" The old chieftain sighs deeply and says, "They cannot be killed. The snow leopard leader on the ice plain, due to its proximity to the Magic Abyss, has already gained magic. Hunters can only be slaughtered in front of them." "But the soldiers who passed through the village last week killed snow leopards, and more than one of them at that," Noah asked, not convinced. "Child, among them there are not only soldiers but also knights. Knights can learn combat, and high-level knights can learn magic. Even snow leopards dare not provoke knights." "When we grow up, we will become knights too!" Noah and William clench their fists. The warm flame in the cabin seems very uncomfortable for the snow leopards, causing water droplets to continuously melt from their fur. The snow leopards become restless and agitated, turning and leaping out of the cabin. Once the group of snow leopards moved far away, the three of them return to the cabin again. The village Noah, William, and the chieftain live in is located in the northernmost ice forest of the Eastern Continent, close to the Magic Abyss of the extreme north. The Hudson River, which originates from the Magic Abyss, flows from north to south through the village, forming several small settlements in the ice forest. "Cough... Cough..." Suddenly, the general lying in bed utters a weak voice, "Where is this?"
