22 Stephen lay awake in bed, staring at the ceiling. He should sleep, considering he needed to be up at four o’clock so he could drive the three hours to the airport. Yeah, right. Like that was going to happen. The pain from the encounter with Zoe haunted him. Was it wrong of him to not let her explain, as she’d done to him? The answer was a resounding no. At least he hadn’t been cruel, as she’d been. Even with the poor treatment he’d received in other cities, he’d never had someone speak to him the way she had.
