Chapter Four  ‘So, tell me, Why did you miss your bus? Get detention?’ I faked offence.  ‘No, I fell asleep at lunch time, and didn’t wake until I heard the last bell. I guess I’ll be in trouble tomorrow for missing those last few lessons’. He ‘’Hmmm’’ed. I’m guessing from the conversation we had this morning, that little fact probably didn’t make him too happy.  ‘You skipped lessons to sleep?’  ‘No, I didn’t mean to, I’ve just been tired recently’.  He took his eyes off the road again, it made me nervous, the weather was bad and now it was starting to get dark.  ‘Why?’  ‘Whats with all the questions?’ He laughed again and shrugged.  ‘All me curious’.  ‘I’ll call you nosey’. I turned around in my seat and looked out the window. Silence filled the car again. Another 5 minutes or so passed before he spoke again; ‘Come on, why haven’t you been sleeping?’ I opened my mouth to speak when my phone went off, signalling I had a new text, When i took it out of my bag to looked at it, I saw it was off my mum. I opened it and read it, completely ignoring Mr Taylor.  I won’t be home tonight, I’ve been asked to work late and then I’m staying at a motel after. Your father will likely be away too. Order some dinner with the money in the kitchen, I’ll see you tomorrow, Remember to get up for school x I sighed, Annoyed and threw my phone back in my bag.  ‘Julie?’  ‘If I tell you, you’ll just go all ‘’teacher’’ on me and interfere’. I mumbled quietly. I felt the car swerve and he pulled over. I looked over at him. ‘What are you doing?’  ‘Well, I’m already breaking school policies by driving you home, so, How about I promise what happens in his car, Stays in this car?’ Could I really trust him?  ‘I-I don’t know’. Could I really trust him?  ‘Tell me?’ I looked down at my lap and took a deep breath. I hadn’t told anyone, not even Jenna and Peter.  ‘My dad is having an affair. He thinks I don’t know, but I do. I came home early from school one day and saw them. He didn’t see me’. His expression softened. He was pitying me. ‘My mum knows about it too, which is why she drinks away her pain with alcohol and boys half her age every night.’  ‘Oh, Julie, I’m sorry’. I just shrugged. ‘Is this what’s effecting you at school?’ I clenched my jaw, not wanting to talk about it anymore and when i answered him, He got the message. ‘Ok, Ok, I won’t push it, but when you’re ready to talk, Know  you can talk to me ok?’ Again, i didn’t answer him, I just nodded.  Mr Taylor started the car again and carried on the journey to take me home.  Eventually, He pulled up outside my house. It was pitch black, No one was home. Obviously.  ‘Where are your parents?’ I shrugged.  ‘Dad is probably in a woman named Karen and my mum is probably downing her 5th glass of vodka by now’. Again, he gave me his pitty expression. I grabbed my school back and smiled at him.  ‘See you tomorrow Mr T. Remember, You promised’. He nodded once. ‘Thanks. See you’. I got out and closed the door before he could say anything else. I didn’t look back as I walked up the garden path and eventually, I heard his car drive off as I headed inside..
