CHAPTER 8
KAI'S POV
I stared back at him, trying to process why he was standing there looking all brooding.
"What, you got a curfew or something?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant despite the surprise.
Adrian's expression didn't change, his arms still crossed.
"Just wondering if you knew what time it was," he said, his tone implying something more. I rolled my eyes.
"I know what time it is, Adrian. I'm not a kid."He raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it.
"You sure about that?" he asked, his voice low. I sighed, feeling a bit annoyed. Why was he being like this?
"I'm fine, Adrian. Just drop it, okay?"Adrian's gaze lingered on me for a moment before he nodded.
"Alright. Just...be careful, Kai." He turned and walked away, leaving me feeling a bit confused.
I watched him walk away, feeling a mix of emotions. Why was Adrian being so...Adrian? I shook my head, telling myself I was overthinking it. I unlocked the door and slipped inside, trying to process the night.
The house was quiet, except for the muffled sounds of laughter and music coming from the living room. I peeked in, and saw Valerie's face light up with annoyance as she spotted me. The guys were oblivious, but Ash quickly looked away, trying to play it cool. What the heck is even her problem?
"Hey, Kai... come join us," he said, a bit awkwardly.
Valerie's gaze narrowed. "I thought you were on a date," she said, her tone implying something else entirely. I gave her a tight smile and answered.
"Yeah, just got back. And it was amazing."The tension was palpable, and the guys started to get uncomfortable.
"Uh, we were just playing games, Kai," Mike said, trying to change the subject. "Want to join?"
I shook my head. "Nah, I'm good. Just gonna crash, guys. Night's been long." Valerie's eyes lingered on me before she turned back to Adrian, snuggling closer to him. I took the hint, heading to my room. She act as if I was going to snatched Adrian away just by being in one room with him. Her jealousy is annoying.
I slipped into my room, shutting the door behind me. Valerie's got some serious ownership issues when it comes to Adrian. Like, I'm not even on that, but you'd think I'd steal her man just by breathing the same air.
I flumped onto my bed, replaying the night. Edward was cool, Adrian was...being Adrian. But Valerie's vibes were the real highlight . Guess I'll just have to deal with her drama. I sighed, pulling out my phone to text Edward. Maybe he'd want to grab lunch sometime, get her off my mind.

The next day as I walked into the school I was blocked by a group of girls. Classic queen bees but I really don't have time for this. I tried to ignore them and walk away but the pushed me back... I gave her a question look. What is even her problem? I don't even know her, I worked my ass out to get into this school I don't want to give bad record and get myself thrown out, but it was so hard holding back.
"What's your problem?" I asked
"You don't walk out on us" the leader said making me scoff.
"Oh really, and if I do what can you do?" she flame with anger immediately.
"How dare you talk back at us? You're not even worthy of being here charity case" I chuckled lightly.
"At least I got to this school through hard work, I don't have to depend on rich daddy to get me here" I said with a proud smile.
"maybe it because you don't have a father to do it, or maybe you have but he's just a poor begger"
I stood my ground, eyes locked on the queen bee, not backing down an inch.
"Sounds like someone's got a complex about their daddy issues," I said, my tone dripping with sarcasm.
"By the way what's your problem?" I asked
"Stay away from Edward you pesty bitch.... If I see you around him again I promise you will be kick out of this school before you know it" the queen bee said. Oh all this is about Edward... I see.
"You are just a bitter bitch..." I was cut off by a slap. Did she just slap me? I couldn't control myself, immediately slapped her back. The other girls gasped in shock.
"The next you lay your hands on me you will be sorry" I said angrily.
"Do you know who my father is"she yelled. I chuckled
" Why, didn't your mother tell you? " I took a step closer, eyes blazing. "You think threatening me with daddy's money and influence works? Newsflash, sweetheart: I don't care who's your sugar daddy is. You put your hands on me, I put mine on you. We're square."
The queen bee's face turned beet red, her eyes welling up with tears. "You...you're gonna regret this!" she screamed, storming off with her crew in tow.
I stood there, breathing hard, trying to process what just went down. Edward's name was definitely on my mind now. "Guess I'm officially on her naughty list," I muttered to myself, rubbing my cheek. That slap stung, but my pride stung more.
Just as I was about to walk away Adrian and Ash came out of now where, they both looked worried...
"Kai are you okay, we heard what happened?" Adrian asked. I turned to them, trying to play it cool despite the adrenaline still pumping.
"I'm fine, guys. Just a little catfight drama." I waved it off, but Adrian's gaze narrowed as he took in the scene. Ash looked like he was about to go full Hulk mode.
"Which one was it? I'll go sort her out." Adrian shot him a look, and Ash backed off, muttering under his breath.
Adrian turned back to me, his eyes searching mine. "You sure you're okay? Do I need toโ" he started, but I cut him off.
"I'm good, Adrian. Just...let it go, okay?" I smiled, trying to reassure him. "I've got this." He nodded, but I knew he wasn't convinced. Adrian's gaze lingered on me for a moment before he nodded.
"Alright, but if she comes at you again, I'm stepping in." He said it with a soft tone, but I knew he meant business.
Ash was still fuming. "I'm gonna go find her, see if she needs a reality check," he muttered, but Adrian grabbed his arm.
"Let it go, Ash. Kai's handling it." Adrian's voice was firm, and Ash reluctantly nodded.
We started walking towards class, the guys flanking me like bodyguards. "So, what's the deal with you and Edward?" Ash asked, trying to change the subject. I raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing. Why?" I asked, playing dumb. Adrian's eyes flicked to mine, but he didn't say anything.
Adrian's expression turned serious. "I told you that asshole is bad news, Kai. You shouldn't be messing around with him." His tone was low and protective, like he was trying to shield me from something.
Ash nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Edward's got a rep, Kai. You might wanna watch out."
I rolled my eyes, feeling a bit defensive. "I'm fine, guys. I can handle him." Adrian's gaze lingered on me, like he didn't believe me.
Valerie showed up clinging on to Adrian's arms like always. She gave me a look but the guys were too oblivious to notice, she really got a huge problem.
"You haven't been with Adrian for long and you're already creating trouble for him" she said. I rolled my eyes.
"Val it wasn't kai's fault" Adrian said but she glare at him.
"Stop taking her side every time Adrian, can't you see she is trouble. haven't you help her enough, I mean she is totally fine send her out of your house and stop getting involved in her personal problems"I laughed it off, not bothering to engage.
"Aww, Val, you sound jealous ."Adrian's expression darkened, and he pried Valerie's hands off his arm.
"Val, stop. Kai's not the problem here." His tone was firm, and for a moment, Valerie looked taken aback.
But she quickly recovered, her gaze narrowing at me. "You think you're so special, don't you? Using your drama to get attention." Adrian's eyes flashed with annoyance.
"Val, enough. Not here, not now." He steered her away, leaving me with Ash, who was looking uncomfortable.
Ash shrugged at me. "Guess some people don't change." I smiled, shrugging back.
"Guess not,any way I be moving out soon she doesn't have to worry too much."I said.
