CHAPTER 7
KAI'S POV
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his sudden interest in my plans. "Why not?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. "You don't think I can handle Edward?" Adrian's jaw clenched, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of frustration in his eyes.
"It's not that," he said finally, his voice tight with tension. "I just...I don't want you to get hurt, Kai. Edward's got a reputation, and it's not good." He paused, studying me for a moment before adding, "You're different, Kai. I don't want to see you get caught up in his games."
I felt a shiver run down my spine at the intensity in his voice, but I wasn't sure how to respond. Part of me was touched by his concern, but another part was annoyed that he was trying to dictate who I could and couldn't hang out with.
"I can take care of myself, Adrian," I said, trying to sound firm but not unfriendly. Adrian's expression didn't change, but I could sense a hint of disappointment.
"I know you can," he said slowly. "But sometimes it's nice to have people looking out for you, too." He glanced at his watch. "Look, I've got to go. Just...be careful, okay?" He turned to leave, then paused. "If you need anything, you know where I am."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving me feeling a little confused and more than a little curious about his motives. I shook my head, focusing back on the task at hand – meeting Edward. I checked my watch again – 8: 09PM. Guess I'd better get going. I smoothed my hair, grabbed my bag, and headed for the door, trying to shake off the weird vibe Adrian had left me with.
I smiled the moment I saw Edward coming out of his car. God!! He's so handsome. Can he really get any better?
Whoa, Kai what the heck is wrong with you?!!. I mean, Edward's definitely got the whole "tall, dark, and handsome" thing going on, but there's something about the way I'm looking at him right now makes me feel I'm already hooked. As Edward spotted me he smiled back, I could almost see the sparks flying between us. He strode towards me, looking like he just stepped out of a freaking magazine or something. This is just like those k-drama...
"Hey," he said, his voice low and smooth as he stopped in front of me. "You look amazing." Kai's cheeks flushed slightly, and for a moment, I was about to say something witty, but instead, I just smiled and said.
"Thanks." Edward chuckled, clearly enjoying her reaction.
"Shall we?" he asked, gesturing towards the cafe. I nodded, and we headed inside together, the tension between us palpable.
ADRIAN'S POV
I can't believe she's seeing that asshole. I mean couldn't she find someone better?. I sighed in frustration as I sat there in my car, right out my gate. It's fine, if she is okay with him then I shouldn't worry, by the way she would be leaving soon and I need to focus on myself and my relationship with Valerie.
I haven't known Kai for long but I consider her a friend, but I guess I can't tell her who to be with and who not to.
I sighed, rubbing my temples. Valerie's gonna be here soon, and I need to get my head straight. I glanced at the time – 8:20 PM. Kai and Edward should be getting their coffee about now. Guess I'll just check in with her later, see how it went.
I started the car, pulled into the gate, and headed back to my room to get ready for Valerie's sleepover. Time to focus on my own life, and make sure Kai's doing alright.
"Welcome back. Your friends are here" Mrs Chen said immediately I stepped into the house.
"Okay thanks, Mrs Chen" I said and walked past her. What are they doing here? I don't remember agreeing to meet up with them today.
Ah, looks like my night just got more interesting. I walked into the living room, and sure enough, there was Ash and Mike, lounging on the couch like they owned the place. "What's up, guys?" I asked, trying to sound casual despite the surprise. "I don't remember saying you could crash my night ."
Ash grinned, tossing a ball to Mike. "Ain't no crashing, Adrian. We're here for the sleepover – Valerie said it's cool." Mike chimed in, "Yeah, dude, we're gonna make it a night to remember!" .
I raised an eyebrow. Valerie didn't mention anything about inviting them. Guess I'm outnumbered.
"Alright, make yourselves at home," I said, heading to my room to get ready. But Ash words made me pause on the stairs.
"Where is Kai, she would be joining us right? Ash asked.
"I heard she has a date with that asshole.... Edward today" Jake who just walked out of the kitchen with a bowl of chips said. The other guys frown in confusion.
"What?... Adrian did you tell her about Edward, that guy is a total d**k" Ash said immediately.
"yeah dude. She is definitely going to get hurt" Mike added.
"I told her but she never listened to anyone, so I think she should learn the hard way." I said, shrugging it off and continued up the stairs, leaving them to speculate.
I changed quickly, trying to shake off the vibe. Valerie's gonna be here any minute, and I don't want to ruin the night talking about Kai and Edward. I took a deep breath, put on a smile.
I bounded down the stairs, joining the guys in the living room.
"Alright, who's gonna show me how to play this new game?" I asked, plumping down on the couch beside Ash. The guys started explaining the rules, and I pretended to listen, all while keeping an ear out for Valerie's arrival.
As we got into the game, the banter started flying, and the laughter was non-stop. Just as things were getting heated, the doorbell rang.
"That'll be Val," I said, getting up to answer it.
I opened the door, and there was Valerie, looking stunning as usual.
"Hey, you," she said, smiling up at me. I smiled back, feeling a bit more relaxed, she closer and gave me a quick kiss.
"Hey, beautiful. Come on in, Ash and the guys are here."As I led Valerie into the living room, the guys started whiting out,
"Ooooh, Valerie's here!" Ash said, grinning like a fool. She laughed, shaking her head.
"Hi, guys."We settled in, playing games and chatting, and I was actually having a good time. No thoughts of Kai and Edward, just the crew, having a blast.
" Adrian I've missed you, you didn't even call me last night "she said with a pout. I smiled and made her sit on my lap.
" I'm so sorry Val... How about I do this Will you forgive me? "I asked with a grin.
" what? "she asked with an eye brow raised in question. I pulled her closer and kissed her passionately....
" Okay guys... Don't forget we are still here "we heard Jake said but I don't mind. Valerie smiled against my lips.
I pulled Valerie closer, kissing her back, and the room just melted away. The guys started cheering and whiting, but I wasn't paying attention. Valerie's smile against my lips was all that mattered.
We finally came up for air, and I grinned at her. "Guess I'm forgiven?" I asked, my voice low. She laughed, playfully pushing at my chest. "Maybe."
The guys were still going wild, teasing us mercilessly. "Alright, alright, we get it," Ash said, chuckling. "You two are cute. Can we play some games now?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "Sure, sure. Game on." Valerie settled in beside me, and we got back to the fun, the night still young.
KAI'S POV
It was supposed to be a simple outing but then it turned out to be a date. Edward wasn't that bad, he was funny and I liked his company. I don't know why Adrian was so worried about me getting close to him. Like always he was just over reacting.
Edward dropped me off right in front of the house. I stood there for a while watching him drove away. I sighed and turned to enter the house but I was startled by Adrian's sudden appearance.
"f**k Adrian!!" I half yelled trying to catch my breath... He crossed his arms over his chest as he stared at me.
"It's passed ten Kai, seriously?." I stared back at him, trying to process why he was standing there looking all brooding.
