CHAPTER 5
KAI'S POV
Honestly when I woke up this morning, I didn't know my new school was Adrian's school. Not until I walked into the classroom. And Valerie, gosh!! It was so obvious she was jealous but I really don't why she should be. Adrian is totally crazy about her.
"What the hell Kai!!" I heard Adrian's voice came behind me as I was about to open my new locker. I looked back at him in confusion.
"what?" I asked, he glared at me immediately.
"Why didn't you tell me that your transfered school is my school?" I rolled my eyes at his question.
"Because I didn't know it was. By the way it wasn't necessary" I answered
"I could have driven you to school Kai" he said Making scoff.
"so your barbie girlfriend could choke me to death? Yeah, that wouldn't be necessary" I answered
"You are just overreacting, Valerie is a nice person"He took a step closer to me, his eyes narrowing as he whispered again. “You know she’s not like that.” I raised an eyebrow.
“Really? Cause from where I’m standing it looked like she was ready to claw my eyes out.” Adrian sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“Look, Valerie’s just… protective of me. She gets a little intense sometimes.” I snorted.
“A little intense? She’s like a pitbull with a bone.” Adrian chuckled, his eyes crinking at the corners.
“You’re not exactly the most approachable person, Kai.” Ouch. That stung a little."come on I will introduce you to my friends" he said taking my hand.
"Fine" I said. I locked my locker and walked down the hallway with him. Adrian led me to a group of students hanging by the window, and I could already see Valerie's glare from afar.
"Guys, this is Kai," Adrian said, and the group turned to us. Ash was there, grinning like a goofball, and next to him was a tall, lanky guy with a chill vibe – probably Jax. Valerie was perfecting her 'I'm-not-bitchy-I'm-just- concerned' face
"Hey," I said, trying not to make it awkward. Ash immediately jumped in,
"When I heard that the drama queen was the new transfer student I didn't believe it, but I guess they were right" Ash said.
"To think you are the smallest, but you are such a loud fellow" Adrian chuckled and slapped Ash on the back.
"behave yourself Ash. By the way you already met Leo, Mike, Jake, Ash and Valerie. This is winny and Calvin." Valerie forced a smile.
"Hi, Kai. Welcome to...our school." I nodded, and just then the bell rang.
"Time to get to class," Adrian said, leading the way. Valerie fell into step beside him, shooting drows looking my way. What was her deal, though?
As they all left for class I breached my locker to get my books, but just I was about to turned around the corner I bumped into a hard wall.
Ouch! Who the heck build a wall into the middle of a hallway. I looked up only to froze. This is not a wall at all.... This is a handsome dude....
The guy's piercing gaze locked onto mine, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe. He was like a statue – no smile, just intense eyes studying me.
"Lost?" he asked, his voice low and smooth. I blinked, remembering I'm not exactly the fainting type.
"Just checking out the architecture," I said, trying to play it cool. He raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced.
"This hallway's pretty straightforward. You sure you're okay?" His tone was kinda...protective? I narrowed my eyes.
"I'm fine. Thanks for asking, though." He nodded, still looking like he didn't believe me, and stepped aside.
"Welcome to the school, then." As he walked off, I couldn't help but notice how he seemed to fill the hallway. God!! He is totally my type...
I rushed to class, but through out I couldn't stop thinking about that handsome guy from the hall way. Did he cast a spell on me or what?.
After school I rushed out, I had to get to work. I got to the Cafe after few minutes, I changed into my uniform and put on a wide smile. Like Ms Sam said even the most annoying customer deserves a smile.
Today shift was tiring. All the customers were just trying to get on my nerves but I didn't want to lose this job so I had to control myself from snapping.
I let out a sigh the moment the last customer for the day walked out. Adrian said he was coming to pick me up, but he is not here and he didn't even leave a message.
"One cup of coffee please" I voice behind me snapped me out of my voice. Gosh! It's the handsome guy from school.
"You?" I half yelled in shock. "what... What are you doing here?" he frown at my question.
"To get a coffee what else?" his voice was flat.
"Well.. We are closed for today" I answered, but he just sat there comfortably like I did not just tell him we were closed.
"Dude... I said..." he cut me off immediately
"Give me a cup of black coffee" is this guy crazy? He is so handsome but troublesome.
Handsome and stubborn, huh? I raised an eyebrow, but Ms. Sam's words echoed in my head – smile and serve.
"Fine, black coffee coming up." I poured him a cup, handed it over, and quoted the price. He tossed the money on the counter and took a sip.
"Thanks," he said, eyes locked on mine. Awkward. "So...you work here?" he asked, like he knew I'd cave. I shrugged.
"Yep. You?" He leaned back, looking way too comfortable. "I'm here sometimes." Ugh, vague much?
"Well, we've got 5 minutes before we close, so..." He raised an eyebrow.
"You kicking me out?" I smiled sweetly.
"Just stating facts." He chuckled – low, rough, and unexpected.
"I'll leave. See you around, Kai." Kai? How did he know my name?!
"How did you know my name?" I asked, he turned back and give me his cute toothy smile. Oh God! Is he planning on giving me heart attack?
"Aren't you a friend of Adrian Reyes?" he asked with a brow raised.
"yeah. But that doesn't explain why you know my name and I don't know yours" Okay, that sounded pretty desperate, but I can't help it he is so handsome. Probably the most handsome guy I've ever seen, well apart from Adrian. Adrian is not that bad...
"if you want my name you can just go straight to the point" he said with a smirk, I rolled my eyes. "anyways, I'm Edward" I snapped out of my Edward-induced daze as he turned to leave.
"Wait," I said, a bit too quickly. He raised an eyebrow, amused. "Do you...want to exchange numbers or something?" I asked, trying to play it cool. Edward's smirk deepened.
"Or something," he said, pulling out his phone. He typed something in and handed it over. I took it, and he leaned in – way too close – to see the screen.
"Save your number, Kai," he whispered, his breath tickling my ear. I shivered, typing in my number quickly. He took the phone back, sent me a text, and walked out. My phone buzzed.
"See you tomorrow, Kai." his smile is even more beautiful. I think I'm going crazy...
ADRIAN'S POV
I was supposed to pick Kai up from the Cafe but Valerie came down with fever and she was sleeping over. I couldn't leave her all by herself...
Kai did not come back, not until late. I was so worried. She walked in with a wide smile and hand me a cup of creamed coffee.
"just the way you like it?" she said Making me frown.
"Okay!!" I said with a confused look.
"By the way I was passing by the game store I saw the lastest edition. So I bought it just for you" Okay this is weird, Kai is never this nice. Is she planning to kill me or something?
"How come you're being abnormally nice to me?" I asked
"What do you mean?" she asked
"You just seem nicer than usual" I answered, she glared at me crossed his arm over his chest.
"I can punch you in the face if you want" Oh snap, Kai's got a weird way of showing affection, huh?
"Nah, I think I'll pass on the punch," I said, chuckling.
"Just checking if you're okay. You didn't come back, and I didn't get to pick you up." Kai rolled her eyes.
"I'm fine. Just got caught up." She dropped the game on my desk and flopped onto the couch. "Besides, I had a weird day. Ran into some guy at school...and at work." My ears perked up.
