Evangeline couldn't believe what she heard. Her face paled in confusion as she stared at Kelson speechless.
"Did I do something wrong? Kelson, please I am sorry if I offended you. I..." Evangeline panicked.
"Evangeline, I don't love you, and I never will," he said breaking her heart.
He rolled her off his body, Leaving her bare with nothing but the sheets on their bed.
"I don't understand," she muttered, tears rolling down her eyes as she looked at him.
"Our marriage was not supposed to be. I can't love you and I hate it that you do," he said, shocking her with the knowledge of her feelings towards him.
"Kelson, I..."
"You should have never added emotions, Evangeline. Things would have worked out if you held back your feelings," he said with a cold voice, gazing at her with dark green eyes void of emotion.
Evangeline sat up, holding the sheets to her chest unable to control her tears. "Why can't you love me? Is it because of Celina?" She mumbled, her voice shaky and low from sadness.
"Celina is different from you, Evangeline. She has been in my life for years. And nothing can change that not even our marriage. That is why I want us to get divorced." He stated his reason.
"Kelson, please don't do this to me. I will do anything so please don't divorce me," she begged.
Evangeline knew what awaited her if Kelson divorced her. Their business collaboration would be after and her father would be furious at her.
As a little child, Evangeline never had the freedom she wanted. Her parents detected her life, making choices without her opinion and lastly, when she was getting married to Kelson they warned her strictly not to fail or bring shame to their family.
But that was the case now. Kelson wore back his clothes, looked over his shoulder and said. "My secretary will send you the documents tomorrow morning. We are done discussing this." He dismissed, leaving the room once he was done.
Evangeline clutched the bedsheets to her chest and cried silently. She felt terrible and sad about everything.
Now that Kelson wanted her out of his life, she had no choice but to return back home.
The anniversary party was cancelled later on which stirred up rumors.
When Celina heard about the situation, she felt glad and decided to try her luck again with Kelson.
As Kelson strode down the stairs, she rushed up to his side and locked his arm with hers.
She noticed the change in his mood and assumed he had an argument with his wife.
"Kel, you know things don't always go as planned." She started, breaking the silence between them. "How about we drink something nice and liven your mood with a good champagne," she suggested, clinging to him like a leech.
"Not today Lina. I have an important matter to attend to. Maybe, when I am done we can drink whatever you want," he said, moving away from her.
"Alright, I will be here when you need me," she beamed letting him go.
Once he was gone, the smile on her face wipe off. She scoffed, kicking the vase close to her.
"That's twenty million dollars you have just wasted," Evangeline's voice echoed from behind startling Celina.
Celina turned around and laughed when she saw how swollen Evangeline's eyes were from crying.
"It seems like someone has been cut off. Have you realized that you cannot compete with me? Kelson's heart will always belong to me," Celina cajoled.
"Do you even love him?" Evangeline asked with a subtle voice. She looked at Celina, taking in her features and couldn't understand why Kelson loved her.
"Why would I be around him if I don't love him?" Celina replied wearing a smug smile on her face.
"You know Celina, when you lie, you need to learn how to cover your tracks," Evangeline said, showing Celina pictures of her and another man being intimate.
Evangeline might be weak but she was smart. She knew about her affair with other men and how she deceived Kelson with lies.
"It is time Kelson knows about the kind of woman you are and the evil things you do behind his back. You think I don't know how you steal from him and how you s***h money out of the company's account," Evangeline revealed her secret with a threatening stance that got Celina scared.
"What do you want? We can negotiate and work things out," Celina said, trying to prevent Evangeline from informing Kelson about her secret. If Kelson found out about this, he would kick her out and her plans would be hindered.
"Now, you want to negotiate. No, it is better Kelson finds out the kind of person you are!" Evangeline raised her voice dismissively.
"Please, Evangeline. You can't do this to me. I know that you hate me but don't drag me down with you." Celina grabbed Evangeline's arm and began to struggle with her.
"Let go of my arm." Evangeline yelled.
Seeing that Evangeline won't give in, Celina looked ahead of her and made her decision.
"Fine, since you don't want to keep your mouth shut. I will make sure you remain silent forever," Celina muttered and forcefully pushed Evangeline towards the rail.
Evangeline widened her eyes in shock as she fell over the rail and crashed to the ground. Celina screamed raising alarm as she watched Evangeline's blood form a pool on the marble floor.
Everyone gathered around and panicked on seeing their madam lying cold in her pool of blood.
Kelson who was in his study came out wondering what caused the noise.
"What is going on here?" He questioned when reached the crowded area.
The maids parted aside for him, revealing Evangeline's dead body.
His blood ran cold, his face paled with horror as he strode over to her body.
He knelt down beside her, pulled her into his arms and shook her body.
"Eva, Eva, please wake up," he begged holding on to her as he screamed.
Celina came over to his side crying and calling Evangeline's name.
"I tried to save her, Kel. But she refused to listen and decided to end her own life. I am sorry this happened. I should have stopped her," Celina lied, shedding crocodile tears.
Kelson scooped Evangeline into his arms and rushed her to the hospital. As he drove down the road in speed, he blamed himself for her death and regretted his decision to divorce her.
As he sped into the dark night, a huge truck came out of nowhere, and crashed into his car. His car somersaulted in the air and went off the cliff, falling into the sea.
Kelson saw his life flash through his eyes and the happy moments he had with Evangeline. He looked at her for the last time with regret in his eyes before darkness engulfed him.
