Chapter 3 The loud sound of an ambulance siren bellowed in the air as a search party looked for the car that fell off the cliff. Kelson and Evangeline's death spread like wildfire on the news stating their cause of death as a fatal accident. The truck driver was nowhere to be seen and their bodies remained unfounded. "Give me back my daughter!" Evangeline's mother cried at the scene, hitting and blaming her husband for her death. Suddenly, one of the officers yelled, gaining everyone's attention. "I have found their body!" The medical team rushed over to the place where the man found them and began to check their bodies for any pulse. Evangeline was long gone but Kelson still had a weak pulse. They quickly attended to him, trying all they could to save his life until they arrived at the hospital. His parents arrived at the hospital in panic. They met their inlaws but couldn't get any information out of them due to the death of their daughter. After a few hours, some doctors came out of the emergency room and Kelson's parents rushed over to them. "Is my son alright? What happened to my son?" His mother panicked. "We tried our best to revive him. But he is in a coma and..." "And what doctor?!" His father questioned, his voice shaky with fear. "Only if a miracle happens, your son will never wake up again. His organs were badly damaged and a part of his brain is dead," the doctor said and Kelson's mother fainted. His father staggered backwards from shock while their inlaws begged the doctors to save their son- in-law. There was nothing more they could do but only to console them for their loss. A few hours later, Celina and Kelson's sister rushed over to the hospital. "Ma, is he alright? I rushed down here as soon as I heard the news," Celina said, holding Kelson's mother. She yanked her hand away and glared at Celina with hate in her eyes. She never liked Celina because of her interference with her son's marriage. But she couldn't stop Kelson from making his decisions. Celina moved away from her, maintaining a distance from the family as they wailed over Kelson's body. He was put on a life support machine but it was useless because he would never wake up. After a while, his family left, kicking Celina out of his ward but she snuck in and sat beside Kelson. "How did you end up with her, Kel? You should have married me instead. If you had not married Evangeline none of this would have happened," she said with spite in her voice. "Now, look at you. A half dead man! You were too selfish, greedy for something you could never have. I loved you but you chose Evangeline over me!" She yelled, pushing down the items on the cupboard close to Kelson's bed. "You can't die yet. I still have to collect your money and live the life I want. So you are going to do me a favor and stamp on some documents for me," she muttered, cackling evilly as she brought out a document containing a transfer of property statement. She grabbed Kelson's thumb, rubbed ink on it and placed it on the deed. As she robbed Kelson of his property, Eric his best friend walked in. "What are you doing?" He asked stopping at the door with a provoked glare. "Eric, baby you are here. I thought you won't make it," she said, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Is he dead? Have you secured his property?" Eric questioned showing his true colors. Eric was the man Celina was having an affair with. Evangeline found out about it and tried to expose them. "Mhm. I have gotten his stamp but his signature is needed as well," Celina said, showing him the document. "Don't worry this is enough to convince the board. I will have a meeting arranged tomorrow. We will take over the brown group and kick those worthless fools out of the city," Eric muttered, referring to Kelson's family. Kelson who they thought was unconscious overheard their conversation. He couldn't believe that his best friends would betray him. "After this we have to cover our tracks. No one needs to know of this and if the police come to ask questions, ignore them." Eric warned her before he went over to Kelson. "You shouldn't have taken my advice to divorce your wife. She was more than anything you could ever want. Sweet Evangeline, it is so sad that she is dead now. You should join her too," Eric muttered. He went over to the life supporting machine and unplugged it, draining the remaining life Kelson had. After they were done with their plot, they left. A tear rolled down Kelson's face as he slowly lost his life, regretting every decision he made. If only he could change time, he would do everything to protect Evangeline, he thought but a sinner like him didn't deserve a second chance.
