Chapter 4
BACK IN TIME... YEAR 2022
At St. Olive's hospital, Kelson gasped for air shocking Evangeline who was beside him.
She rushed out of his ward and called the doctor who attended to him before.
After doing a short test, the doctor finally broke the silence in the ward.
"It is a miracle you regained consciousness, Mr. Brown. Please, refrain from doing dangerous things and quit biking," the doctor advised him.
Kelson stared at his body confused that he was alive. The doctor and Evangeline went aside to discuss other matters concerning his health.
He remembered dying in the same hospital but here he was alive again with Evangeline next to him.
"The doctor said you can leave today. I will send Molly to take you back home and return to work." Evangeline joined him after she was done talking to the doctor.
Kelson looked at her, his brows knitted in confusion. Evangeline sighed displeased with the expression on his face.
"I know you don't like me. But please try to act cool when we are in public. I will leave you alone and get back to work," she said, getting up to leave but Kelson grabbed her hand, stopping her in place.
"Eva, I don't hate you," he muttered, surprising her with his words.
They stared at each other unable to fathom a word to say. Kelson still felt guilty about what happened to her and if this was a dream, he wanted to let her know that he didn't hate her.
Just then, Celina rushed in with tears in her eyes. Evangeline yanked her arm away from Kelson and trudged towards the door.
"Kel, thank God you are alive. I thought you would never wake up again," she cried, sitting beside his bed.
Kelson quickly repulsed her and went after Evangeline.
His action surprised Celina, confusing Evangeline at the same time.
"You said, you were going to take me home. Why are you leaving me behind?" He held Evangeline back.
"I...I...um, thought you would want a private time with your best friend," Evangeline said.
"She is not my wife, Eva. You are." He blurted, taking them aback.
Kelson never refused Celina's company or stayed in a place without her. But after regaining consciousness, he changed.
"Did I do something wrong, Kel? I..." Celina muttered.
"From now on, stay away from me," he said, before leaving with Evangeline. Celina stood in by the side of his bed, clenching her fist in anger as she watched Kelson chase after his wife.
Evangeline couldn't believe her ears. She was shocked by his words and how different he became after waking up.
"Are you alright? You don't seem to be yourself. I will call the doctor to check on you," Evangeline muttered, suspicious of his brain being damaged.
"I am not sick, Eva. I am myself even though something doesn't seem clear to me. But I am more than alright," he assured, lacing his fingers in hers.
Once they stepped out of the elevator, Kelson saw a poster with the year 2022. He frowned, knowing that the current year was 2024.
He went over to the reception desk to correct the mistake. "Excuse me, the poster stand has the wrong date. It is outdated."
The nurses looked at him as if he was crazy. "Sorry, sir but the poster is as current as the year," one of the nurses answered.
"Current?" He asked, then looked at the calendar behind and saw it was the same. He grew worried, unable to fathom the sudden change.
"Are you sure this is correct? What year is this?" He asked, scaring the nurses with his questions.
"This is 2022, sir," the nurse answered.
Kelson stepped back in fear as realization hit him hard. He was back in time.
He looked at his hands, then turned to Evangeline who was on a call. He was alive because he went back in time. Kelson Wondered how possible it was for him to be alive after his accident.
As he thought harder about it, he began to feel dizzy as a sharp pain jabbed his head.
"Kelson are you alright?" Evangeline rushed to his side with worry on her face.
"What is today?" He asked.
"2nd June, 2022," she answered.
Evangeline's answer crept him out. He couldn't believe that he went back to the second year of their marriage.
The knowledge of this made his senses heighten to his environment making everything so loud.
"We are going to see the doctor now! You are not fine," Evangeline panicked as blood rolled down Kelson's nose.
Everything happened so fast him like a movie placed on fast forward. And before he could assure Evangeline of his health, she called for his doctor and sent him back to his ward.
"His vitals are alright. The nose bleed must have been the after effect of the concussion. But he is fine," the doctor said and left after he was done.
"I told you that I was fine," Kelson muttered, reaching out to hold Evangeline's hand.
"I need to go, Kelson." She moved away from him nervously. Kelson took note of her mood and decided to give her some space.
Him too had a lot to think about especially his current situation.
However, he couldn't let Evangeline be on her own because of the guilt and regret he felt towards her.
"Is there anywhere in particular you need to be? I can take you there," he offered. Kelson knew that his relationship with Evangeline wasn't solid in his previous life.
And now he got a second chance, he wanted to make amends.
"You don't need to take me there. Get some rest, later on Eric and Celina will come to take care of your needs," Evangeline said, preparing to leave.
Kelson felt irritated at the mention of their names. His memory may not be clear but his senses were able to detect their malicious intentions.
"No, Eva. From now on, I want you to oversee everything I do. You are my wife and I would like to know you better," he said.
"I can't do that Kelson. You already made our relationship clear to me," Evangeline muttered with a subtle voice filled with sadness.
_I will never acknowledge you as my wife Evangeline._
Kelson remembered his past self, telling her these words. He panicked, regretting every of his words.
"That's not what I meant. No, I should have never said such a thing to you. I take back my words." He rushed to her side, holding her hand as he begged.
"Kelson, what are you doing? Let me go." Evangeline struggled with him until her purse fell and its contents shattered on the floor.
They both bent down to gather her things and Kelson picked up a paper that shocked him.
"You are pregnant?" He read Evangeline's test result and they both stared at each other speechless.
