Gabriel's body was covered in bruises. She sat in the entrance hall like she had lost all her strength, her eyes vacant and devoid of emotion.
Caleb, on the other hand, appeared perfectly composed with a neat suit. There were only a few creases on his trousers, as if nothing had happened.
He knelt and raised her chin, making her look at him. His eyes were bloodshot as he spoke, “Don't try to go away with your lover since he is back to the country. No way. Gabriel, A bad women like you are only worthy of living in hell forever.”
...
To ensure the safety of the transplant operation, Caleb forced Gabriel to undergo another examination.
Dominic, who was wearing a white coat, studied the report and remained silent for a while.
“What's wrong with me” Gabriel felt uneasy. She had agreed to Caleb's plan of being a living donor for Jasmine's kidney transplant.
Caleb insisted on a thorough physical examination, fearing that Gabriel's health issues might hinder the success of the transplant.
With a wry smile, Gabriel wondered if she indeed suffered from some severe illness. She saw Dominic’s serious expression.
“Gabriel, I don't suggest you do it.” Dominic shook his head while studying the report. “Your current condition is complicated.”
“What do you mean?” Gabriel was confused.
“You're pregnant,” Dominic said.
“How is that possible?” It felt like a bolt from the blue.
Gabriel couldn't find words to describe her emotions.
During the three years of their marriage, Williams had never touched her. She also had never thought that she would be carrying their child.
But upon learning of their child's existence, she was overwhelmed with joy.
She was carrying Caleb's child.
“Is it that day...?” Dominic abruptly stopped, recalling the phone call where Caleb had humiliated her. He couldn’t bear to see her being hurt for another time. He changed the topic, saying, “I suggest you discuss this with Caleb.”
Dominic’s emotions were also complicated. He knew Caleb hated Gaberiel due to Isabella’s death. His obsession with Gabriel reached to the point of insanity. Though Caleb didn’t love her, Gaberial agreed to the living donor transplant when he threatened to divorce her.
Part of Dominic wanted to say, “Gabriel, get a divorce and give me a chance to take care of you and the child.”
But he knew his position.
Gabriel, the naive girl, was blinded by love.
He couldn't rush her, so he could only patiently enlighten and support her. He believed that one day, she would see his dedication and give him a chance.
To Gabriel, the news brought her back to reality.
Gabriel nodded absently, taking the medical report. Caleb was the father of this child, and he had the right to know the news.
To find him, she had to go to Jasmine’s ward.
Jasmine was lying on the bed. Her face was pale, but she smiled triumphantly, when she saw Gabriel.
“Haven't seen you for a long time, Gabriel. Caleb told me you’re taking care of yourself to be ready for the transplant.”
Gabriel frowned, asking, “Did you know that my kidney is a match?”
“Yeah, I used to feel sick at the thought of your kidney inside me, so I asked the doctor to fake the result and say it didn't match. Now I changed my mind. Why should I lie in a hospital bed while you enjoy life comfortably?”
“You deserve to be in the hospital. This is the price you must pay for what you have done.” Gabriel cursed her.
“Whether it's God's will or a price I must pay. You'd better divorce Caleb as soon as possible, or else I will make sure you die ugly.”
Gabriel laughed indifferently, “You’ve done so much just to become Mrs. Williams, am I right? Listen, even if I die, I won't do as you wish.”
“Ha, let's see if you can endure it till the end,” Jasmine sneered. “By the way, I heard you're pregnant.”
Gabriel clutched the report tightly, asking, “How do you know that?”
Jasmine didn't respond and suddenly fell off the bed with a thud.
Gabriel hurried over to help her. But when she steady footsteps approaching, she realized that it was a trap that Jasmine had set up for her.
