I Hate Plannings

The Engineers passed me a sheet of paper with some lines on it (mainly drawn in a square) and noted it down as Town Square with a land size of 4 square miles around it. As I held the paper in my hand, I immediately noticed that I have made a grave error in calculations where I thought that the land including the first cluster would be at 4 square miles. I laughed at my silly mistake and luckily, it could be easily seen and corrected on the piece of paper rather than to visualise it in my mind. "Hahaha. Silly me. I thought the Town Square would be smaller. So basically from this point to this point is 2 miles...! Hahaha. We would need a lot of logistics to bring the workers around to their workplace every day to ensure the reservoirs would continually supply water throughout the crop fields." "There would be a lot of deforestation and there would be a lot of orchard trees, new factories, buildings and it would be like... Wow... A full-blown town with lots of amenities. I only know about Darlington so maybe you could help me draw up some buildings to ensure that a proper legislative and order would be maintained here." "It's just a drawing, Your Majesty. Here could be ½ mile down and the front here would be made up for the balance. We won't disturb much of the orchard and factories but we would be adding a proper school, that teaches three levels of education, a full hospital with inpatient and outpatient services, operating theatre, dispensary and triage rooms as well as a church where it would be situated near the cemetery." "Several buildings would be torn down and rebuilt close by but rest assured, the lands across the riverbank would be solely used for crops and livestock so the livestock would need to be relocated." "The courtyard or the Square would house the sporting event and it would be permanently erected and would have an enclosure as well. Just wait for us to make a mini-map of the new Town Square." "At the meantime, use this drawing as a guide to design your first cluster for the current citizens and followed by the second cluster. If you need us to calculate the land size as well as calculate how many houses could fit all around complete with 4 cornerstones for a marketplace, we would gladly help you out, Your Majesty." I thanked the engineers for their thoughtfulness since I hate doing math and plotting the drawings so I left it to them instead. In the end, I just left the calculations to them so that I would be able to focus on other issues instead. The engineers understood and saluted as they left the settee area and headed back to where they were supposed to be reporting next. Besides, there are a few things they need to make in order to make a good presentation. The engineer in charge of the model houses came to me and reported, "Your Majesty, in accordance to the drawing in your hand and also the sizes of land available, we could even make the house to be 25 feet by 20 feet sitting on 30 feet by 25 feet plot of land." "This would make about 1300 to 1400 houses within the first cluster. We would have more than enough houses to fit in the near future. Besides we need to design the interconnecting paths and the cornerstone markets which also houses a small garrison as well of 24 archers c*m swordsman there." "Hmm, I like your vision there, young man. We should be in a rush to build our first cluster of houses too fast too. Alright, run along with the design of 25 feet by 20 feet double-storey then. It would be part brick and part wood, right?" "Yes, Your Majesty, its part brick and part wood for the then second storey, complete with individual windows for the rooms and also the walkway as well. Let me get on it and make the miniature model as soon as I can and it would be able to be split open so the resident viewing could see how big the houses would be." The engineer saluted and went back to his work area to build the double-storey brick and wooden house model. At least, we knew they the bricks and wood would come from our production areas. Besides, after felling the trees during the deforestation, there's an abundance of planks that the sawmill had to extend sideways to store the excess wood. Besides, wood was not of great demand like before right now for some reasons and it would be used internally for our own use instead. I looked for Heather and found that she had just finished nursing the twins and the helpers were carrying the baby back to the crib. When I called out, the twins were kicking their legs in the air and were squealing in delight. I went over to meet and greet the twins as I do not dare to carry them yet. Its because I'm not accustomed to but I could suffice by tapping their sides, pinching their cheeks and noses as well as held their tiny hands in my fingers as they held on to it strongly. Hehe. Its as if they wanted to lift themselves up through that motion...! Heather and I fussed around with the twins abit when one of the helpers informed us that we have visitors coming in a carriage. There could mean once thing — the VIP had arrived...! We went to the conference hall, gathered the pioneers and informed the Gracehaven's Finest Bakery and Gracehaven's Greasy Spoon that our guests would be here shortly and to standby to prepare some refreshments. In a short while later, the Marquis and Marchioness arrived in a grand carriage drawn by 4 horses and we welcome them warmly the moment they stepped down from the carriage steps. "Hello there, Your Majesty. I got wind you are now a father with a Prince and Princess each. Woohoohoo... A big congratulations from us all. There are some gifts for you, Your Majesty. Could you get your helpers to bring them down?" The Marquis of Flamborough greeted us as he stepped down from the steps first, followed by the Marquis from Scarborough, Marquis from Barmston and Marchioness from Beverley. "Aww... You don't have to go to all the trouble, my dear Lords and Lady. Your presence here is more than enough for us." "It is alright, it is just a small token after all. Besides, we won't be able to stay for the night and that's the reason why we're here in the first part of the day." "Come, let's get down to business. We would be heading down to Leeds and then down to Manchester as we have a very close deadline. There's something important that we need to perform after this so let's go on with it." After witnessing their hurried manner, it seems that they managed to squeeze in sufficient time to spare for us as they need to head back to these two cities. I wonder what the urgency but I could sense great importance. Immediately, the Gracehaven's Greasy Spoon and Gracehaven's Finest Bakery got down to work and prepared the necessary refreshments as the dignitaries were ushered to the conference hall and made themselves comfortable. Since the dignitaries could spare some hours for us to discuss, it would be best to make good use of it as we took out seats and open the table for discussion. I pulled the writing slate close to me as I drew a square in the middle of a few more squares and I wrote the measurements for all to see.
