"So this is the brawl or wrestling match, Your Majesty...? I thought it would end up something like the confrontation between Andy and his elder sibling before."
"The event does rile up the citizens here and from what I heard, they would like to have more of these events on a regular basis. The matches, I mean."
Old Jack slithered close to me and mentioned it while I considered about the consequences of having these bouts on a regular basis.
"Won't the infirmary gets too much work due to the bruises and cuts these people sustained?"
"Not unless we have some nurses on standby st the side of the squared circle then any injuries could be fixed right on the spot, rather than to wait for the wound to open up and cause more damage."
"Hmm, let us plan for this and I would consider the sporting event as part of Gracehaven's culture."
"Your Majesty, if you don't mind me interrupting your conversation, the library that I had taken back before might have some references for you to look at for some sporting events. As the wrestling match was a messy affair and had an unprecedented start, it did go very well. A good tune-up would be best."
Eagle sauntered over and spoke his piece so that I would be able to create something entertaining for the citizens on a regular basis based on some recommendations of some sporting events.
Based on the general public views, they would like to have such events organised 4 to 5 times a year and they would like to see a proper structure where they could even idolise their favourite sportsman or sportswomen, something like that.
Definitely, we won't be following the Greeks where they have their sporting events like a mini Olympics or something, right?
After we had wrapped up the conference among the pioneers in the evening, we all went to the infirmary and visited Heather who was walking the aisle, waddling sideways like a penguin, while supporting her hands behind her back. Her belly was like...*ahem* a bulbous bow of a ship just underneath the waterline. (wipes sweat off after describing)
What do you expect for the twins to be carried around in Heather's belly...! It would be twice the size of a normal pregnant lady, right? Especially when the mother and the unborn were having great nutrition from pottage and freshly toasted bread, cakes and biscuits...!
The weight of the twins in her belly sure brought a toll on Heather as her back was hurting like having a slip disc kind of feeling. She was walking the whole length of the infirmary as its a good form of exercise.
Besides, Heather had been doing her exercises regularly especially the Standing leg extension exercises that help her to widen her hips and the birth canal.
After she had walked to the end of the infirmary near the dispensary, she would be doing her extensions for about 25 times in each leg before she returns to the other end near the nurses' station and does another 25.
She was repeating it until she nearly flops on the bed soaking wet with perspiration or until the twins had enough of it as well and start to kicks around inside the belly.
Heather had just completed her exercises when we entered the infirmary yo pay her a visit as well as gave her a surprise. The pioneers handed her several hand made presents that made up of some cotton baby clothes, jumpers, gloves, beanies and a whole lot more baby stuffs that men like us would not be able to describe.
Some were placed in decorated baskets with ribbons while some were in woven cots that had its own kind of layered shelves and drawers to store all the baby stuff underneath them.
So this is the medieval kind of baby shower eh?
Not only there were presents for the mother to be but there's also finger foods...!
The bakers had prepared light wheat bread and had made some sandwiches made with seasoned fish in mayonnaise since the bakers have access to their own Standing Icebox.
What seemed impossible to prepare some months ago was now made possible with the availability of the Standing Icebox. The mayonnaise spreads that could easily spoil under normal temperature could now be kept chilled and have a longer shelf life.
The bakers had prepared a wide variety of pudding, tarts, custards, patties, wafers, doughnuts, pancakes, marzipan cakes (almond cakes), cream muffins and Fruity baked Turnovers.
These were shared with the rest of residents as a portion was sent to Heather on a decorated wide oval woven winnowing tray. The tray had all the trimmings, colourful ribbons et cetera and the whole assorted mix was arranged in an elaborate fashion to add to the explosiveness of colours and taste.
The moment Heather saw the spread she can't help but picked on it and began to stuff her face with it. Frankly, as what they said, what the mother eats, the baby would also eat them too.
Heather had a smiley face as her mouth was bursting with all the goodies and sweetness and I guessed the twins were experiencing the food too.
I could imagine the twins were like holding a piece of pastry in their hands and slowly munching on it, just like what their mother was doing right now, with smiles on their faces and eyes that shaped like a crescent. Hahaha.
Since this baby shower was only meant for the pioneers to be involved, the community were strongly advised not to spend any of their coins for presents and such as it wouldn't be fair for the community at all.
So instead, the goodies they were baked for Her Majesty was well shared among the community, with lots of helping to go round. Besides, another family was chasing up to give birth too and that was one of Hereford's daughter who got married last year when Gracehaven's Finest Bakery was first established.
Now with her protruding belly, she was tasked not to operate the ovens anymore but stayed behind the scenes to perform lighter work. It seems that the year 1441 could be seen as a baby bonus year with babies blossoming everywhere on the Spring of the season...
"Old Kayla, wouldn't it be appropriate if Heather was to deliver the babies on our own domain?" I asked since I wondered why Heather had to be in the infirmary at all.
"The domain would need to have a separate chamber specially meant for Heather and the babies to have complete bed rest after delivery. About 40 days of confinement."
"Then Heather need to have her hips wrapped up so that she would not be someone with a lopsided pair of hips or you need to say, 'Beep Beep... Passing by a wide wagon ahead...!' you get the whole idea, right?"
When Old Kayla mentioned about the wide wagon, I could imagine a lady with wide hips waddling about and blocking the kitchen door while any children that tried to sneak out with goodies would get crushed by her hips. HAHAHA...!
After the visitation at the infirmary, as Old Kayla described that Heather would be wrapped up around her hips to maintain her figure lest I would be running around to look for another Queen (where at this point, Heather looked at me menacingly and shook her fists), Old Kayla also describes the importance of nursing and care fie the baby et cetera.
So basically there's no need for the father to be around during that time... How cruel...!
When I for back to the domain, I went to look at the library that had been properly arranged by Eagle and some of his Shadow members so that it would be categorised in a very orderly manner. I found an old reference journal based on mystical monsters that I had read before and saw a journal on sports and entertainment.
I removed the sports and entertainment journal and went to the centre of the balcony area and sat down on the settee and flipped through it.
Immediately I had an idea of how to improve the sports that the crowd love while incorporating bare fist fighting, with grappling and holds and acrobatics even, plus dressing up in gladiator's armour and other kinds of costumes.
It's going to be a formal kind of entertainment in Gracehaven and we can even have it once a month even...!
A round Robin knock out wrestling system.
