9. Green Tree

    It was a whole week until the king let me know that the house was finished. I hadn’t seen Jacob at all outside of the meals we had with the royal family. He tried all week to talk to me, but I wasn’t having any of it. I could tell that the entire family sensed the tension between us. However, nobody said anything. It was the elephant in the room that we were all ignoring.     I packed everything in my tiny room in less than a day. Servants came to collect my things and moved them into the house. When I walked in after them, all of my stuff was piled by the front door. So were Jacob’s belongings. A brown leather sectional had been moved into the living room, and a flat-screen TV placed above the fireplace. I stood in the living room, unsure of what to do. That’s when I heard footsteps
