Chapter 17

930 Words
*Armaan’s POV* This is an exciting day for my pack and me. Today we receive the light of our pack, our queen, our Luna, into our hearts and officially unite. The ceremony in itself is nothing short of a wedding, and I can’t wait to see Alina. Aunt Rina and Mira have done a good job of helping with the arrangements. Today, if my mom and my sister-in-law were still alive, they would have been the ones doing that. But, I can’t bring myself to even dwell on this. I don’t want to think of any dark thoughts today. I am going to let myself live in the moment for once. I look in the mirror and although it's a bit vain, I think I look pretty good in my dark blue suit and a white button-down shirt. I can’t wait to see Alina. I know that the color of her dress is sapphire blue, but that’s all Mira would tell me. I can’t wait for the surprise.  Just then a knock on my door interrupts my thoughts. I open it to see Zafar and Jeffrey with a solemn look on their faces. They ushered me to follow them, and once we are in my office they close the door and face me. “Well, will one of you spit it out already?!” Zafar shakes his head, “ It’s a bit worrying, you should sit.” I sit, as I wait for them to speak. Surprisingly Jeffrey steps up and begins to speak. “The Luna has sent a secret message to the current Alpha of the Gold Crescent pack to alert him to make an insurrection on our pack tonight.” “JEFFREY, DO YOU EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT THE F YOU’RE ACCUSING THE LUNA OF?!” “Yes, Alpha. I’m accusing her of a grave charge: treason.” I make my way towards Jeffrey but before I could do something bad to him, Zafar gets in between us and tries his best to calm me down. “Wait Armaan, you need to hear him out first. Don’t let your love blind you.” “WHAT THE F DID YOU JUST TELL ME? I’M NOT F-ING BLIND, BUT I WILL NOT TOLERATE A WORD AGAINST MY MATE AND THE LUNA OF THIS PACK!!” “Oh, just wait until you see what unfolds tonight and then we will see if you are actually blind or not,” Jeffrey said. I could sense a weird twinge of hate and spite mixed into what he was saying. “Jeffrey, is this really you? You’ve never behaved like this with me before. What’s gotten into you?” “Well, you’ve never doubted what I’ve told you before.” That’s actually true. I trust both Zafar and Jeffrey with my life. I can’t believe that they would tell me this. But, I trust Alina. Sure, I haven’t known her all of my life, but I’m sure she is happy. She wouldn’t betray me, would she? “The Luna has had a plan up her sleeve all along. Don’t forget that her father was the one that tried to destroy this great pack in the first place.” Jeffrey said as he took a seat near the desk. “She made a plan with her father to come here, win your trust, and become Luna. That way since she marks you, you will form an attachment with her and she will have a certain level of power over you. Then, Gold Crescent warriors will come and overthrow you and take the pack away.” “But that doesn’t even make sense!” I argue.  “Even if this plan you speak of is true, how would Alina get rid of me without hurting herself? Once she is marked she will experience everything I experience.” “No, actually not quite, only after the mating process is complete does that actually happen. If you both mark each other without mating, like at the Ceremony. Then she could survive the pain of losing you by mating with another. And, I’ve heard that she and the Alpha of the Gold Crescent pack are very close.” That was the last straw, I saw red. I grabbed Jeffrey by the collar and threw him towards the nearest wall, but before I could do anything else, he put his hand up, and I froze in mid-attack. Zafar looked too stunned to do anything. “Calm down, Alpha,” Jeffrey said while getting up and re-adjusting his suit jacket. “Save that rage for the intruders that will arrive at midnight.” With that, he just disappeared. “I hate when he pulls that warlock s**t and disappears like that.” Zafar just nodded and then sat down on the sofa. “But, what if he’s telling the truth?” I didn’t like the sound of that. But Zafar had a point. Everything Jeffrey has told me has been true so far, so why would he lie now. But then how could Alina do that to me? Could I have been so wrong that I couldn’t see past the mate bond and a beautiful face? All of my answers will come to these questions, at midnight.
