Chapter Five

ELARA The car drove into the Castle and from inside the car, I could see the tall and imposing building and it looked even more majestic up close with its grey walls decorated with rose flowers and ivy. There were a few people standing at the main entrance with their heads bowed as the car came to a halt in front of the building. One of the men headed towards the car and pulled the door open for me to step out. I hurriedly glanced back at Alaric who didn’t say a word and just stepped out of the car. I followed suit and the cold wind made me shiver as soon as I stepped out of the car. Everyone except for a man holding a tablet bowed. He gave a curt and quick bow as soon as he saw Alaric before glancing at me. “Silas, this is my wife, Elara. Elara, this is Silas, my assistant.” Alaric introduced shortly. I could see the shock on Silas and everyone else’s faces as the maids stole glances to have a good look. I could tell what they were thinking. Anyone would imagine the most powerful Lycan to get married from a powerful family and not a no name nobody. “If you need anything, just ask Silas.” Was all he said to me before turning back to Silas. “Have the maids prepare the second room on the west wing and prepare her for the blood marriage rites.” I watched as Alaric walked in without glancing back at me and for some reason, I felt a pang of loneliness. I had agreed to this on a whim but I was now in a strange land where I knew no one. “This way, my lady.” One of the maids bowed, showing me in the direction of the said west wing. As we veered through the corridors, I could see the contrasts between the historical and modern orthodox of the building. There were elevators, images which seemed ancient displayed in cases and I could see the CCTV cameras around. Anyone would see this as straight from a fantasy novel. The architecture looked out of the world with grey bricks and red and thick carpets in the middle of the hallway. I barely saw anyone on our short walk to the elevator. “Isn’t this the pack house?” I asked the maid who had spoken to me earlier. “It is, my lady. But on the west wing, you won’t encounter any random person on the west wing. Only authorised personnel are allowed here.” She explained calmly without looking at me. Before I could ask another question, the elevator dinged and we were in an entirely different hallway. Unlike the other part, this place looked modern with whirlpool walls, large floor to ceiling windows on the left side of the corridor overlooking the city below and the beautiful ocean in the distance. I could hear the sound of waves crashing against rock in the distance and I felt a strange sense of peace. Then, I noticed there were only two doors in the corridor. There was one on the other end of the corridor. It was thick and black with golden handles, and the other stood not far from the elevator, white with golden handles. The maids pushed the white door open and I couldn’t help but stare at the other door. “That is his highness chamber. It is a restricted area unless he personally summons you.” The maid said as if reading my mind and the question on my mind. The room I was given was much bigger and more beautiful than I had imagined it to be. It was the kind of room that would be given to royalty in any pack. Oh yeah, I was one now. The maids hurriedly started moving from one part of the room to another as if preparing something. I was led towards the bathroom where a bathtub was already filled with warm water and scented roses. The maids reached out to help me with my dress and I flinched. “What are you doing?” “Lord Silas instructed that you’re prepared for the blood marriage rites, my lady.” the first maid responded to me. “I heard him but why are you undressing me? I can take my bath myself.” I said with a deep frown and they all bowed. “Apologies, my lady. We will prepare your dress as you take your bath.” The first maid urged before they all stepped out. I’ve heard rumors of what the blood marriage rites were but I had never dreamed of being involved in one myself, besides, it was a rite needed in order to be officially recognized as the bride of a royal or noble Lycan breed. Soon, I was dressed in a white royal robe and led outside back towards the direction we headed from. We soon reached the main hall and on the other side, I could see a large expanse of field there. For a building on the mountain, its structure was surprising. As we stepped into the field, I could hear the distant sound of the ocean. My gaze moved from one part of the field to another and I could see a small creek, flowing down, probably to meet the ocean and by that creak, Alaric was waiting, dressed in a white attire also with Silas and another man who was standing behind a table filled with a lot of things, probably a priest. “You’re late.” Alaric said, his cold voice sending a chill down my spine. For the first time since we first conversed, he looked at me with an unusual kind of coldness. “Let’s get this done with.” Without any explanation, he grabbed my hand, gesturing for the blade with the priest who handed it over hurriedly. Before I could comprehend what was going on, I felt a sting on my palm and blood trickled into the golden bowl on the table. Tears stung my eyes as I bit the inner part of my lips. Werewolves might heal quickly but it doesn’t mean we do not feel pain. He did the same process for himself, dripping his blood into the same bowl as mine. Suddenly, a strange beat thudded in my heart. A gasp escaped my lips as I instinctively grabbed onto Alaric for support. I felt as though my heart was being squeezed as it hammered against my ribs. It felt much worse than the time Ronan severed the mate bond. I heard faint screams from a distance but my mind was in my head. What was this? It hurts so bad. “Welcome to the Nightveil Kingdom, your highness, Elara.”
