Over the next few days, Ava tried to clear her head. She threw herself into work, avoided her phone, and spent time alone, walking aimlessly around the city, trying to sort through her emotions. But no matter how much distance she put between herself and the situation, thoughts of Jason and Liam lingered in the back of her mind. Liam had always been there for her—steady, reliable, loving in ways she hadn’t fully appreciated until now. She couldn’t imagine a life without him, but the idea of taking their relationship to a romantic level scared her. What if it ruined everything? Jason, on the other hand, had awakened something new in her—something exciting and unpredictable. He was passionate, intense, and everything about him drew her in like a moth to a flame. But with that intensity came uncertainty. There was still so much about him she didn’t know, and part of her feared that falling for him would mean losing herself. On a Saturday evening, Ava found herself walking along the river, the setting sun casting a warm glow over the water. She stopped at a bench, sitting down and staring out at the horizon, her mind swirling with questions she couldn’t answer. What did she really want? Who was she, apart from these two men who seemed to define so much of her life? As she sat there, lost in thought, her phone buzzed. It was a text from Jason. Jason: I can’t stop thinking about you. Can we meet? Ava’s heart skipped a beat. Part of her wanted to see him, to be swept up in his passion again, but another part of her hesitated. She needed to be sure of what she was feeling before she could face either of them again. But before she could respond, another message came through—this time from Liam. Liam: I miss you, Ava. Let’s talk, just the two of us. No pressure. Ava stared at the messages, her mind spinning. She cared about both of them, but the more time she spent alone, the more she realized that choosing one meant losing the other. And the thought of that broke her heart. But she couldn’t avoid them forever. She had to make a choice
