It was a week later when Ava finally decided she couldn’t run from her feelings any longer. She arranged to meet both Liam and Jason separately, needing to confront her emotions head-on.
Jason came first.
They met at a quiet café, tucked away from the bustling streets. Jason looked as handsome as ever, his intense blue eyes locked on her the moment she walked in. As they sat across from each other, the familiar electricity between them crackled in the air.
"Ava," he began, his voice low and serious, "I’ve given you space like you asked, but I need to know if there’s something here. Because I can’t keep waiting."
Ava took a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly. "Jason, I care about you. I do. But... I don’t think I’m ready for the kind of intensity you bring into my life. You make me feel alive, but you also scare me. I don’t know if I can keep up with you, and I don’t want to lose myself trying."
Jason’s expression darkened, but he nodded slowly. "I get it," he said, though there was pain in his voice. "I guess I’m just not the safe choice, am I?"
"It’s not about safety," Ava whispered, her heart aching as she watched the realization settle over him. "It’s about knowing who I am, and right now... I’m not sure."
Jason reached across the table, taking her hand in his for a brief moment. "I hope you find what you’re looking for," he said quietly, before standing and walking out of the café, leaving Ava with tears in her eyes and a deep sense of loss.
Later that day, she met Liam at a park. It was the kind of place where they had spent so much of their childhood together, and the nostalgia hit her hard as she sat down on the bench next to him.
Liam didn’t say anything at first, just sat there with her, letting the quiet settle around them.
After a few minutes, Ava broke the silence. "I’ve been thinking a lot, Liam."
He looked over at her, his eyes filled with warmth and understanding. "And?"
Ava took a deep breath, her hands shaking slightly as she turned to face him. "You’re everything I could ever want in a partner. You know me better than anyone else, and I know you love me. But I don’t want to rush into something just because it feels comfortable. I need time—time to figure out if I can love you the way you deserve."
Liam’s face softened, and he reached out to take her hand. "I’m willing to wait, Ava. As long as you need."
Ava smiled through her tears, squeezing his hand. "Thank you, Liam."
They sat together in the park, the sun setting behind them, and for the first time in weeks, Ava felt a sense of peace. She didn’t have all the answers yet, but she knew that she didn’t have to make her decision alone.
Liam would wait, and Jason would move on. And maybe, just maybe, Ava would find herself in the process.
