Everything is dark. Silent. Shuu is resting blissfully with the young woman who is Ema’s adoptive mother. Soon after the high school girl practically cried herself asleep with her daughter, Shuu moved their adoptive child to her crib. He returns to the bed to bring Yui closer, and instinctively the girl curls into his arms which makes the nineteen-year-old smile to himself. It didn’t take him long at all to fall for either of their charms. So bothersome.
He instantly closes his eyes once more, feeling the warmth of Yui’s body next to him coax him into slumber.
The night grows later, and Yui is the one to wake up. She couldn’t explain it, but she broke out in a cold sweat feeling unsettled. She looks up and sees Shuu’s face glow in the moonlight. His facial features are relaxed to the point of seeming childlike. It made her smile.
She tries to remove herself to give the vampire some space, but his arm around her waist only tighten but it soon loosens.
“What do you think you’re doing back in here, Kanato?”
What?
Yui soon sits up in alarm. And standing over the crib is indeed Kanato. His amethyst eyes only glow in the light of the full moon, he doesn’t even turn his head to answer but Yui could see the small knife he held tightly in his grip. Kanato quickly raises his hand above his head to bring it down with such force and speed to pierce the child with the blade. Yui reacted with amazing speed and managed to tackle the vampire to the ground, knocking the blade from his grasp.
“Let go of me, you disgusting human!” He shouts at the top of his lungs.
“No!” Yui shouts back.
“You insolent creature!” Kanato grabs at Yui’s platinum blonde locks and pulls harshly. Yui grunts in pain but doesn’t let go of the fourth Sakamaki. During this time, Shuu assessed that he needed to remove Ema from the situation first. He got up and moved past the struggling duo on the floor to pick up the fussing child from her crib. Soon after, Laito and Ayato appear into the room and separate Kanato from Yui before he could do too much damage. They held him back by his arms as he struggles to attack the young woman who stumbles on to her feet with Shuu supporting her.
“Why? Why are you all so willing to protect that weak creature? It’s not one of us! Why? Why do you care? Tell me!” Kanato is practically screeching and his voice ends up becoming a rude awakening for the child in Shuu’s arms. Ema starts to cry only adding to the noise.
“Shut up! Shut up!” Kanato screams in anger. What the hell is so special about her? What about him? Why is everyone changing?
“Kanato-Kun.”
Kanato stops his cries and the only thing that can be heard are the wails of poor Ema. Shuu quickly puts the child to sleep so now that everything is silent once more.
“Why?” The vampire with tired eyes asks quietly, too tired to continue shouting. Yui simply gulps not knowing if she could properly answer such a question.
“There is no real reason, Kanato-Kun. She was brought to us. She touched my heart and I wanted to love and care for her as my own. Even though I can’t speak for the others, I know they feel the same and I’m happy that we can share this experience together.”
Kanato felt his irritation rise, “That doesn’t explain as to why! Why did you forsake me? Why did you forget about me?”
“No one has Kanato-Kun! Please listen!” Yui cries but continues, “This entire time I’ve been worrying about you, your health, and if you were okay and if this entire situation had upset you! I’m sorry that Ema has taken up so much of my time, but I still care about you. I want you to feel loved and included, not forgotten because you’re not!” Yui could feel tears running down her face but at this point she didn’t care. She needs him to understand her— how she felt.
“Lies! All lies!”
Her vision soon becomes incredibly blurry, and hopefully she didn’t look as ugly and pathetic as she felt but damn it all.
“Kanato-Kun please! I just want you to see and feel what we do!” Yui pleads for a final time.
Kanato didn’t know what to think, but slowly his anger, irritation, sadness, loneliness, and every other negative emotion slowly dispersed until he felt completely numb. Since his struggling ceased, Ayato and Laito are weary of releasing him just yet. They eased their grip slightly, only to have the air knocked out of them as Kanato delivered a blow to each in their lower stomachs, making them drop to their knees. Yui instantly steps back, startled. Shuu simply hardens his glare, and places the sleeping bundle in Yui’s arms before stepping in front of her to block Kanato’s view of the woman and child.
“Tomorrow.” Kanato said, not looking to anyone but the sleeping infant in her arms.
“Eh?” Yui gasps.
“Tomorrow, you’ll show me.” With that, Kanato simply disappears to retreat to his private rooms in the manor.
Ayato and Laito stand, looking towards Yui with the unconscious baby girl held close to her chest.
“Hey, Pancake,” Ayato addresses her, “what’s it going to be tomorrow?” He asks the soon-to-be seventeen-year-old girl.
Yui could only blink and look down at her daughter’s sleeping form, contemplating everything that may happen while processing everything that just did. She made her decision with a slight incline of her head.
“I’ll do it.”
…
Tomorrow came. Unfortunately for the newly ordained teenage fathers, Yui needs to go see Kanato on her own. None of them were allowed to chaperone. Subaru felt boiling rage consume him once he recovered and is informed of what is going to happen at this very moment.
“Hey, Yui!” Subaru grabs her attention, “Make sure to scream if you need help.” He tells her, a look of anger and worry storming in his eyes. Yui saw this and nods in understanding. She is about to leave to meet with Kanato until she is pulled back by her wrist. A milk white hand encircles her waist as the youngest of the six Sakamaki brothers presses a longing kiss to her lips. Yui is stunned, but once she is released she could only blush as Laito wolf whistles and Ayato grumbles while Shuu could only sigh.
She nods dumbly again and grabs Ema and starts making her way to Kanato’s private rooms.
The young teen holds the innocent child sideways with her arms under the child’s bum until she reaches Kanato’s door. She goes to knock but the door freaks open by itself, an invitation. One she is scared to accept; she accepts anyway. Yui enters the room, calling out for the young vampire. As she steps in, Kanato could be seen sitting on the couch in his bedroom. Teddy is on the bed, unmoving as the teenage mother moves closer to Kanato. The vampire held what is akin to a bored look on his pale, tired face.
“Show me. Show me what is so special about it.” He states blandly.
“Y-Yes, but-?”
“Spit it out already.” Kanato demands getting impatient.
“Can she play with your toys, or do you want me-?”
“Fine. If it helps, I want to see what’s so important about her.” The Sakamaki allows.
Yui swallows the ever growing lump in the back of her throat and places the child down to play with the scattered toys. The baby girl instantly goes for the blocks, wanting to put the objects in her mouth but decides against it when she sees the other toys at her disposal on the floor. Yui sighs in relief. Baby drool on Kanato’s things is never a good scenario. Yui ends up moving towards Kanato to sit by him, but he swiftly grabs her wrist and pulls her down on to the couch with him climbing on top of her.
“You know, Yui-San, my throat has been getting dry lately. It’s because you haven’t been giving me your blood. Instead you waste your time and energy on her, but offer yourself to my brothers, don’t you? That’s too mean, Yui-San. You deserve to be punished by my fangs.” Kanato smiles evilly. He bares his fangs while pulling down the collar of her shirt before sinking his sharp canines into her soft flesh. He drinks greedily as the red liquid coated his lips, tongue, and the back of his throat. It felt heavenly, to taste such luxury after weeks of feeding off of low quality blood. He didn’t want to stop, he couldn’t stop even if he tried. He was going to kill her, but Yui resisted the urge to scream.
The only reason he did stop is because of the tiny arm tapping his shoulder. He freezes to look over to his left, and little Ema is gurgling with a smile on her round face. Kanato suddenly felt anger well up inside of him, and explodes.
“What do you want? Go away! You’re not wanted here! Disappear!” He shouts right at the infants face. However, unlike any other time, the baby did not cry. In fact, all she did was smile wider and press her chubby fingers to his shoulder once more. What the hell is wrong with this child? Shouldn’t she be scared? She should be crying right now, not giggling at him! Instead, she found him amusing, a delight. She’s too innocent and pure to know what is going on around her at that moment. And yet this is the reason Kanato soon found himself tearing up. No, he isn’t crying. He wouldn’t allow that to happen. But looking into Ema’s sky blue eyes, watching her explore and play with the findings in his room, made him feel…weird. His heart felt full to the point of overflowing, he wasn’t sure if he liked that feeling but after awhile he know he didn’t want it to end. He ends up releasing Yui, the girl now sitting up to look over the new set of puncture wounds at the base of her neck. Kanato simply watches the baby girl as she moves closer to her parent and evidently Kanato as well. Her small fists patting at his knee. He should feel disgusted, enraged, even, at the slightest touch. However, he finds himself gently enclosing the girl’s hand in his. It was so much smaller than his own, much softer, and with much more color. He wants to protect her. Play with her. Hide her away from the impurities of this world, from himself. He felt so much at once that he could only let the tears fall freely down his face. How could he have been so blind?
He gently ends up picking up little Ema, Yui watches him, frozen, but alert to any harm that may follow. Kanato places the child in his lap and holds her similar to how he holds Teddy, he vaguely hopes in the back of his mind that Teddy isn’t jealous, but he soon ignores that voice all together. The warm, living, breathing creature is all that matters in this moment. Yui could see Kanato’s heart expose itself fully and simply gives him time to bask in that moment of vulnerability and care. She is truly at a loss when he pulls her in to the embrace as well, and buries his face into the other side of her neck while still holding on to Ema in his lap.
“I’m sorry, but please don’t forget about me. I don’t want to be left behind. I want to enjoy this time with you, Ema and Teddy.” He cries into her hair.
Yui simply nods and moves her arms to gently wrap around his middle and rubs soothing circles onto his back, not unlike how she does this to calm her crying child. The platinum blonde woman simply uses this same method to coax and reassure the young vampire of his worth and how much he is loved by both herself and their child between them.
