Title: The Dragon Maid: Reignited Flame CH 1
Arc One Dragon Hidden Flame The Dragon Maid: Reignited Flame Chapter 1: A Visitor from the Skies The sun dipped beneath the horizon, casting the skies over Mount Kirameki in golden hues. Villagers returned from the fields, their laughter rising alongside the evening smoke. It was the kind of peaceful day that made people believe dragons were myths of an older age—until the wind changed. Hikaru Tanaka leaned against the railing outside his grandmother's herbal shop, twiddling a hand-carved talisman his late mother had given him. The village of Suiryuu was simple and serene, nestled between lush forest and cold mountain slopes, and the last place you'd expect anything extraordinary to happen. But Hikaru always felt something was wrong with how normal everything seemed. He turned at the sound of wings slicing through air. The sky split open—not literally, but something massive tore through the clouds with a thunderclap. A streak of red and silver fire traced behind the figure. A dragon. Or something like one. It spiraled toward the forest behind Suiryuu and vanished in a blaze of golden dust. Hikaru's breath caught. No one else seemed to notice. He blinked, gripping the talisman. "Not again," he whispered. It wasn't the first time he'd seen things others couldn't. That night, the air grew oddly warm. Hikaru couldn't sleep. He wandered to the edge of the forest, talisman tight in his grip. There, lying unconscious in the clearing where the dragon had fallen, was a girl with crimson hair like wildfire and scales gleaming on her arms. She wore an oversized cloak barely concealing her shimmering tail. Hikaru approached cautiously. She stirred. "W-Where am I...?" her voice was melodic yet tired. She blinked up at him, confused and dazed. "Who are you?" He crouched beside her. "You're not from around here, are you?" She smiled faintly. "You saw me, didn't you? No one else ever does." That was the moment everything changed. Hikaru didn’t know it yet, but he had just met Kaelira—the last Flameborne Dragon, a guardian of the ancient realms, now hunted across dimensions. And she had chosen him. In a blink, a system window opened before his eyes: > [Congratulations! You have become the Dragonmaid’s Bonded Soul! Tasks and Rewards will now be issued. Protect the Flame.] He staggered back. "W-What is this?!" Kaelira chuckled softly. "Welcome to my world, human." --- Chapter 2: The Flame Beneath the Apron The morning sun spilled golden light across the city, but beneath its warmth, Airi’s heart remained chilled. She stood at the kitchen counter, apron tied over her nightgown, slicing scallions with mechanical precision. The kitchen, like always, smelled of soy sauce, mirin, and the subtle sweetness of white rice. To anyone else, this moment was peace. To Airi, it was routine—the mask she wore daily. “Breakfast is almost ready,” she called over her shoulder to her employer. Master Hiroshi, the young man she now served as a maid, responded with a groggy grunt from the hallway. He shuffled into the room, hair still a mess from sleep, rubbing his eyes. Airi smiled politely, her amber eyes betraying nothing. She had made it her mission to blend in. Never draw suspicion. Never reveal the fire. Hiroshi plopped into his seat. “You’re always so cheerful in the morning. It’s kind of scary.” Airi chuckled, placing the miso soup and grilled mackerel in front of him. “It’s my job to make your mornings pleasant, Master.” He glanced at her, brow raising. “You don’t have to call me that, you know.” “I insist,” she replied with a gentle bow. “It’s proper.” Hiroshi rolled his eyes and picked up his chopsticks. “You’re weird, Airi.” She smiled. If only he knew how weird. If only he saw what lay beneath the apron and the perfect posture. --- The day unfolded like any other: cleaning, shopping for groceries, polishing the antique display cases in the hallway. But around noon, something odd happened. A dark mist crept from under the storage room door. Airi froze. Her hand dropped the feather duster. The fine hairs on her arms stood up, and her dragon senses roared into full alert. That scent—it wasn’t from this world. Her gaze sharpened, and she took a careful step forward. She reached for the door and pushed it open slowly. Inside, nestled among brooms and forgotten cardboard boxes, was a tiny orb. It pulsated with a dim, reddish glow, like a dying ember. “A summoning fragment?” she whispered. This was bad. --- Later that night, after Hiroshi had gone to bed, Airi returned to the storage room. She crouched down before the orb, which had begun to twitch and glow brighter in the moonlight. She pressed two fingers to her temple, whispering a string of ancient words. The seal within her chest burned in response. “f*******n,” she muttered. “They promised never to summon again.” The orb quivered. Suddenly, a spark leapt from it—followed by a voice, dark and guttural. "We found you..." Airi's eyes narrowed. Her dragon blood pulsed. The shadows shifted, and a symbol briefly lit the wall behind her—a dragon’s sigil, blazing red. She stood, apron fluttering, and reached beneath it to pull out a dagger etched with runes. “You want war?” she whispered. “Then you’ll meet the Flame.” But not tonight. Not in his house. She couldn’t drag Hiroshi into this. Not when she’d finally found a peaceful life. So she placed the orb in a spell-sealed jar and buried it deep beneath the garden tree. --- The next morning, she served breakfast with a smile. But her mind was elsewhere. The hunt had begun again. And the dragon maid would not go quietly. -- End of Chapter 2. Check out chapter 3 Here's a synopsis of chapter 3 Chapter 3: The Flame Within A strange aura lingers after Aira’s confrontation in the previous chapter. Suspicious of the unease in her chest, she experiences a vivid dream—one that unveils a cryptic memory not her own. When she awakens, markings glow faintly on her wrist. Her quiet life as a maid begins to unravel as the signs of hidden power awaken within her. Meanwhile, the noble household she serves starts noticing her change, and not everyone is pleased. Secrets stir, and danger inches closer as the spark inside Aira flickers to life—threatening to consume or protect her, depending on the path she takes.
