A cold rejection it was

Eliana I felt an outburst of excitement the moment Mila revealed that we’ve met our mate. “Finally!” I whispered under my breath as my eyes finally settled on who it was. The first thing that hit my sight was a cold pair of blue eyes…one that looked like it was about to tear me into tiny shreds. I shivered and took a step backwards. “No! It can’t be…”, I whispered silently as my gaze remained on him. Staring back at me with those dead glares was Ryker, the son of the alpha and the meanest person in the pack. Clinging to him was the famous Alice, known for her fashion and beauty. Ryker soon jerked out of his current state of shock and took a step forward, towering over me as though he would crush me the next second. “Mate?” I thought I said that to myself, but the sudden stare from everyone around confirmed that I blurted it out. “What? What is she talking about?” Alice asked as she also took a step forward, shifting stares between me and Ryker. But how? Of every male in the pack, why does it have to be him? Ryker was someone I detested with my entire being. Every single memory I have of him is of his cruelty towards me. Do I start from how he locked me up in the dungeon one night I went to the kitchen to steal what to eat since I was being punished with starvation? He had caught me and sent me to the dungeon where I spent three nights surviving on just water. How about when he set me up as the thief who stole a jewelry from the Alpha’s chambers when he was actually the culprit? He had hinged the blame on me and manipulated the entire situation to make me the devil. Or should I talk about when I slipped and fell into the pool when I couldn’t swim. He had walked past me with Alice beside him, pretending like there wasn’t a struggling girl in the pool. He hated me as much as I did and there was no way I was willing to have him as my mate. Or was I? There was a flicker of hope in the depth of my heart. Perhaps it came from a place of trauma or the want for acceptance. That hope told me that I would be accepted by the pack since Ryker was my mate. Maybe if he becomes my mate, the entire pack would give me that respect. It would mean that I become Luna, right? The thought of this gladdened my heart a bit. No, I cared less about his love. All I wanted was the power and position. That was the only revenge I could give to the pack that killed my parents and turned me into an outcast. At this, I smiled softly and took a step closer, melting away in the hope of a brighter future with Ryker and kicking aside the cold glares he shot at me. “This is definitely a joke”, that was the first utterance that flew out of his lips. “This is certainly a joke. Can everyone please take a moment to laugh aloud?” Ryker said as he lifted his head to everyone present. In a second, the entire room erupted into a loud round of laughter and giggles. “Do you know what this outcast just blurted out?” He continued. “She said that I’m her mate!” Clutching his stomach, he laughed so hard until I saw a drop of tears falling off his eyes. “And maybe, she is right. But at the same time, she is wrong because I, Ryker, the son of Alpha Zane, would never accept an outcast and traitor as my mate!” He dropped fiercely, pointing at me and breathing heavily. His eyes now flickered between red and his blue normal orbs. It meant that he was exploding in rage. “And so, I, Ryker Zane of Blue moon pack, reject Eliana Campbell as my mate”. I flinched as though I’ve been struck by a thunderbolt. “You don’t mean that. You can’t go against what the moon goddess has chosen”, I desperately said, with hot tears pouring out my eyes. Would I be rejected forever? First, I was rejected by my pack and now, my mate? “The moon goddess is a clown. And I stand by every word I have uttered”, he declared, his voice cold as ice and sharp as a blade. The pain I felt was sudden and instant. I gasped and held on to my chest that felt as though it was being ripped apart. My breath suddenly went on the rise and in no time, I dropped on my knees, trying to nurse the pain of a broken bond. Everyone stared at me with disdain. It felt as though they enjoyed the scene. They loved seeing me in pain, and it was visible. Alice giggled and wrapped her hands around Ryker. They even shared a kiss right before me. Gathering the last strength in me, I stood up and stared deep into Ryker’s eyes. “Then I reject you too, Ryker. The moon goddess, together with everyone in this pack, bear me witness to this day. You will suffer this pain, Ryker”, I cursed as I held my chest that still hurt. Just then, Alpha Zane walked in, with the usual mean stare and disgusted expression. “Can someone take this outcast out of this hall? I banned you from attending any social gathering. How dare you come here? Take her to the dungeon and for one week, she remains there!” He declared and in a second, I was being dragged out of the scene, with Ryker looking with me with a smirk, Alice rolling her eyes at me and the rest of the pack glaring at me in hatred. However, just as I was dragged away, my eyes met the softest pair of orbs in the midst of the hostile ones. The pair of eyes kept staring at me as though it had some pity for me. It was as though it really wanted to come to my aid… And from everyone in that pack where I was born and brought up, it was only the eyes of a stranger that showed me sympathy… “Who is that?” I wondered as I was finally led out of the scene towards the dungeon. The dungeon, my second home since I’ve spent most of my days there…
